ladies and gentlemen have you ever wondered why some videos go viral on YouTube and get millions of views whilst others struggle to get a single click well the answer isn't Luck instead top creators know how to write killer scripts that keep viewers watching whole way through boosting their attention which makes their videos go viral so in this video I'm going to reveal how to write better scripts than 99% of YouTubers using my five-step formula and this formula can easily be copied onto your videos to increase your watch time drive your engagement and ultimately blow up
your channel so what I'm going to do is walk you through all five steps and then at the end I'll show you how you can download the script template for free but first let me give you an example so you know that this script writing system actually works so my other YouTube Channel's got over 1 million subscribers and my videos regularly get hundreds of thousands if not millions of views and that's because I use this viral script writing system but before I used it my channel looked like this so after 3 years of posting nearly
100 videos I was only getting a few thousand views a day which wasn't great for the number of videos that I posted but this video here was the first time I applied the formula that I'm about to teach you and my channel just blew up I managed to get hundreds of thousands of views tens of thousands of subscribers I had my first 1,000 day which was crazy and then since then I've kept using this formula and my videos now regularly get hundreds of thousands if not millions of views you know I mean here's one that
I made a couple of months ago and it's already got half a million views using this exact formula but the point is this copy and paste script writing formula Works obviously it's not a guarantee that your video is going to go viral but it will put it in the best possible position to do so so let's break it Step One is the thumbnail alignment rule so this is the most overlooked part of script writing and it's something that 99% of new YouTubers don't do because you could have the funniest most perfect most incredible YouTube script
in the world that you know was written by Mr BEAST's team or something like that but if the content of that script doesn't clearly align with your title and thumbnail then people are just going to start watching your video and then click off and this is because the title and thumbnail set the expectations for your video and the purpose of your script in the first 5 seconds is to make sure that those EXT expectations set by your title and thumbnail are met and if you don't meet these expectations then people just click off your video
and the video gets basically no views and recently Mr Beast confirmed this your title and thumbnail set expectations and at the very beginning of the video to minimize drop off you want to assure them that those expectations are being met but you can't meet the expectations of your title and thumbnail when writing a script if you don't have a title and thumbnail in the first place therefore step one to making an amazing YouTube script is slightly counter Inu but it's to make your title and thumbnail first before you start writing the script as your title
and thumbnail are going to inform what the script says later on then once you've got a title and thumbnail that's when you ask yourself these two questions firstly what expectations is my title and thumbnail creating and secondly what reason to watch this video did I just give and like really think to yourself like what do people want to know or see when they click on this title and thumbnail for example let's use this TNT here which is called eight simple editing techniques and Concepts to make better videos and the thumbnail looks like this so I
a little think about this example and the main questions that I got were what are the techniques and Concepts to make better videos what is it that I'm not doing will it work on my channel and what is the proof that this works and is it really simple then what I want you to do is take the three most important questions that you've generated and these are the questions that are going to inform our scripts later on now we'll come back to these questions later on when we actually start writing the scripts but once you're
90% confident you've got a great title and thumbnail that generates at least three interesting questions you're ready to move on to the most crucial part of your script which is the hook so the hook is basically what you say at the start of your video and it's basically just like the opening sentence and the start of your video is the area which sees the biggest drop off in retention but if you can have an amazing hook that increases retention at the beginning you will by default improve the retention of the entire video and top creators
use one of three hooks at the start of their script number one is a question hook this is where you pose a question that the the viewer just wants to know the answer to for example it could be have you ever wondered how geckos walk on walls and ceilings or for the video we just looked at it could be something like is your video editing really as effective as it could be just make it relatable to your title and thumbnail and super interesting number two is the context hook and this is where you just drop
the viewer into your video where the stakes are at their highest which creates tension and here's a great example of this feel that we're getting close to something this is me hunting for anacondas at night with a remote tribe in a country that know one heard of oh another one oh so at the start of that clip we're dropped into a very tense moment where Drew is walking through the Amazon at night someone Falls over you can't see anything and you just want to know what happens next and number three is the statement hook this
is just a statement that's going to shock or surprise your viewers as soon as they click on the video so find a big and maybe controversial claim that you can obviously back up and then just say it at the start of your video for example here's a fitness YouTuber called coach Greg and he starts off this video with a very bold claim women on average put less effort in sports powerlifting weightlifting basketball every sport you name it men on average try harder than girls obviously this statement shocks the audience but then he goes on to
discuss the claim talk about both sides of the argument but the point is you as the viewer are hooked so take a look at your video and think which hook applies best to the video that you're creating then have that as your opening sentence on your script so after you've got your hook planned out you're then ready to move on to step three which is the rest of your intro and this is where it gets interesting you there are two things that your script needs to do here firstly it needs to give context to your
video and then secondly it needs to exceed the expectations set by your title and thumbnail so let's firstly start on context if people don't have context your video they don't actually know what it's about and then they just click off which contributes to that massive drop in retention at the beginning but if you can provide context in the correct way we can boost our attention in the first 15 seconds which by default boosts their attention of the entire video and you provide context using the three points preview technique so go back back to the three
questions from your title and thumbnail that we talked about in step one and just address those questions in a couple of sentences and this provides context to the video so they know what to expect from it but also re hooks the viewer because you're saying that you're going to answer the questions that they just want to know the answers to so if you go back to our earli example the main three questions we had were what are the techniques and Concepts used to make better videos what is it that I'm not doing and will it
work on my channel so we just address these questions at the start of the video meaning that our script would look like this we begin over with the hook so is your video editing really as effective as it could be and then we just add context from the three questions that we generated earlier so it sound like well in this video I'm going to reveal eight simple techniques and Concepts that any YouTuber can do to easily transform their videos 99% of editors don't use these simple hacks so in this video I'll walk you through them
but first let me give you some examples of YouTubers blowing up their channels using these techniques all right let's just pause for a second and really think about this from the audience's perspective just to understand why this is such an effective script writing technique because they've clicked on your video expecting to know more about these three questions because that's what they thought about from the title and thumbnail now at the very start of the video not only do you hook them in with one of the three hooks that we talked about you also say that
you're going to answer the questions that they really want to know the answer to meaning the chance of them actually clicking Off Your Video way smaller so to recap a good YouTube script will hook in the viewers and then provide context but we don't want a good YouTube script we want to kill a you script that is better than 99% of other YouTubers and killer scripts do just one more thing they overd deliver on the viewers expectations I'll let Mr Beast explain this VI so at the very beginning match the expectations and then you want
to exceed them so you want to assure people that what they clicked on it's what they're getting and then blow their mind and be like but you're also getting even more because what do you think happens when you exceed the expectations set in your introduction you just give viewers even more of a reason to stick around which overall increases your attention and actually overd delivering on expectations is really easy you just need to make sure that your script showcases how much effort you've put into your video so you could do this by saying how many
hours you spend editing the video or researching it or you could do something like create a free download so your viewer just gets Extra Value from the video or you can just add in your own credibility so if we go back to our video editing example I could say something like and by the way my name is Oscar Owen and I'm professional video editor and these are some of the best editing techniques that I've learned over the past 10 years using Premier Pro what ever it is just make sure you get it across to the
viewer early on in your script right after you've provided the context because getting across early means the viewers are just going to be blown away and are more likely to stick around to the end of the video so we're off to a great start currently our script has a hook provides context to the video and then exceeds the viewers expectations now we're going to move on to step four which is scripting out the actual content of your video and if you get this wrong then everything else I've just told you goes to waste so let's
break it down so the content of your video is where you deliver on what you promised in your hook an introduction now of course every video is different but generally if you package your information into a list format like top 10 or five easy ways to do X then this just boosts viewer engagement as people just want to stare around to listen to all the steps so even if they already know steps 1 2 3 and four number five could be the game changer for them so they'll stick around to listen to number five so
on your script after your hook and introduction add all the points that you're going to make in numbered headings and this is just going to form the backbone of your script and again at the end of the video I'll show you how you can download my actual temp template for this so stick around for that anyway where most people fail is on how they deliver these points to the viewers because the way in which you deliver your point is the difference between your attention graph looking like this and looking like this you see most new
YouTubers make the huge mistake of simply saying a point and then explaining it so in our video editing example the mistake would be something like tip number one to making better videos is to add graphics to your video and the reason you should have Graphics to your video is because they boost your attention and demonstrate your point better and do all these other things but that's not how the top 1% of YouTube scripts are written and here's why it's all to do with something called the payout the payout is basically the moment in which the
audience gets the answer to the central question that they've been waiting for so in a detective film the payout is where the Killer is finally unmasked in a fairy tale the payout is where the hero defeats the villain and in a YouTube video the payout is when you answer the points that the viewer wants to know the answer to and the top 1% of YouTube scripts have their payout at the end of their point not at the start so in the average script example that I just gave you as soon as the viewer knows that
tip one is to add graphics to their video they already have their payout and then they don't need much more information therefore a lot of them will just skip ahead to the next point because they think they already know all about graphics and stuff causing your attention graph to look like this so these lines here represent each point and you can see how there's a massive dip after the point is made and this is just because the payout is given straight away so in your script instead of having the payout up front for each point
that that you make you instead need to unpack your points differently to maximize engagement and how do we do this well it's easy the structure of your points should be as follow step one is you rehook the viewer for each point with a statement or question at the start and then step two is you tell a story that then builds out to the payout which is at the very end so here's a great example of Alex hosi doing this when talking about uh some business deals that he's trying to close imagine you're dating and there's
only one girl on the planet you're going to find a way to think that that girl and if you know your gender's revers flip right whatever you know what I'm saying there's only one person on the planet then you're going to find a way to make that work and so it's kind of the same thing with deals if you only have one deal on the table you're going to keep telling yourself man maybe this is a good deal because you have nothing else to compare it to you always want to have a plethora of options
to choose from and until you get those many options to choose from don't move forward because what happens is you artificially make that girl look a lot better or that person or that deal looks a lot better when there's nothing else to compare it to now he could have started off just by saying tip one always make sure that you've got multiple deals on the table but by starting off with a statement that says imagine you're dating and there's only one girl on the planet suddenly this point becomes a lot more interesting and you don't
know where he's going with it and then he turns it into a whole story which just keeps the viewer watching until you get to the end where he says that's why you should have multiple business deals on the table so very importantly make sure that your payout is at the end of your point but if you want your channel to blow up then there's just one more thing that you need to do which takes us to step five which is understanding the relink hack so let me tell you a secret YouTube doesn't care about your
videos all they care about is viewers staying on their platform for as long as possible that way they can show more ads to people causing them to basically earn more money therefore the algorithm rewards channels that keeps viewers on the platform for as long as possible so at the end of your script you need to direct viewers to another one of your videos as this keeps them on YouTube for longer meaning the algorithm is more likely to boost your channel and to do this we use something called the relink hack so at the end of
your video don't just say hey guys thanks for watch watching Please Subscribe instead we use another hook that will encourage viewers to watch another one of your videos so if we go back to the editing example it could be something like thanks for watching guys but everything I've just told you in this video is completely useless if you don't have the right computer so go and check out this video here which explains what computer you need to edit better videos what this will do is cause your viewers to start binging all your videos increasing your
Channel's watch time making them more likely to subscribe and it will make the algorithm absolutely love you and speaking of the relink hack I'm basically going to do it right now so everything in this video really won't mean anything if you don't have a really good thumbnail in the first place remember point one of this was to start off with a killer thumbnail as that is what informs your entire script therefore please click the video that's somewhere on the screen and watch my video where I break down the entire thumbnail creation process and also click
one of the links in the description where you can download my script writing template completely for free and you can just copy and paste it onto your next video anyway see you in a bit
