(upbeat music) - [Narrator] The Fort East Martello Museum and Gardens was originally built as a civil war fortification. Today visitors can walk through exhibits including the Spanish American War, local artist displays, wrecking, and cigar manufacturing, but without a doubt the most famous display at East Martello Museum is the mysterious Robert the Doll. The life-like doll was Robert Eugene Otto's childhood companion and best friend, but legend has it when Gene misbehaved he would point at the doll and claim Robert did it.
Gene went on to become a prominent Key West artist and his home on Eaton Street became known as the Artist House. After Gene's death in 1974, stories of the doll's strange behavior became commonplace. Tenants heard footsteps in the attic room above them.
Once it was put on exhibit, cameras and electronic malfunction in his presence, and soon strange tales of paranormal experiences began to surface. Is Robert really cursed by voodoo? Visit Key West and Robert the Doll today.
