so there are several different dangers to using AI for Bible study but there are also ways you can avoid them so in this video I'm going to go through the seven different dangers of using AI for Bible study as well as the number one way to avoid them in case you and I haven't met yet I'm Keith faren your Bible coach my passion and the focus of this channel is to move you from should to want when it comes to reading studying understanding applying and enjoying God's word so if you could use some help with that then you're going to want to click that little button down there so you don't miss a video well as you know AI is here and it's not going anywhere it is not going to do is any good as Christians to put our head in the sand and ignore it and just hope it goes away after all do you realize that in the first 5 days of chat GPT launching the beginning of 2023 a million people registered for chat gbt in the first 5 days and Forbes is actually predicting that 37. 3% growth will be the user base of AI between 2023 and 2030 and that statistic was from several months ago and my guess is it's actually low so what do we do and how do we navigate this well in this video I want to walk through seven dangers and then how I'm trying to utilize the power of AI but avoid these dangers the first danger is actually the one that I think is the most detrimental and that is that AI can get in the way of the purpose of Bible study so much of AI is focused on taking all of that information that is out there and boiling it down to answer a specific question it's very good at that very powerful at that but too often when it comes to our Bible study we could ask an AI Model A a question about a passage or something like that it might glean a lot of information come up with some ideas that we didn't even think of but it gets in the way of the purpose of Bible study which if you've been around my channel for any length of time at all you know that for me the purpose of Bible study is relational not informational AI by definition is a tool that con that gleans all this information puts it together delivers it in different ways but it's by definition an informational tool Bible study primarily should be relational not informational so while information can inform the conversation that we're having with God the purpose of us being in in God's word is relational not informational so AI can get in the way of that primary purpose for Bible study the second danger of using AI for Bible study is that AI doesn't always get the context that when it comes to Bible study context is key it is so vital so important to look at the big picture and while I believe that AI can help us get the context there are times when you're you're what you're asking AI to to look at is so narrow and so focused that it doesn't look at the the breadth and the the width of of the topic throughout scripture so I think it's very important to recognize that AI even when you're asking it about context doesn't always produce uh and understand the context of the biblic IAL narrative or the Theology of that passage or so much that goes into important Bible study the third danger is that there's always the potential for bias it's one of the reasons I'm going to share with you my number one way for overcoming that at the end of this video but it is important to recognize that while the the purpose of AI kind of as it exists today is to take a whole lot of information and produce the best possible result that actually creating something that has a bias one way or another it's actually kind of depleting the value of AI and so I I think it's less of an issue right now there's certainly like with any tool with any technology with any advancement in that there is always the potential for somebody to build in bias into that language model that AI kind of backend and so it's really really important that you're using an AI model that that you know where it's coming from and what the model is and what the background is of that uh moving forward because certainly the programmers of that AI model could build in their own bias and I am sure we will see that in the future the fourth danger of using AI for Bible study is that the results can be oversimplified that so often what people are looking for when they go to AI when they go to something like chap GPT or bar or Bing or any tool is that they're looking for a summary they're looking for a two paragraph or three paragraph overview and so often the weight of scripture the has so much Nuance to it and there's context and all that that we've already talked about that some sometimes the the AI models can give you back an answer that is almost kind of continues with the the sound bite culture that we live in of it just summarizes it in a paragraph and we take that as as gospel and it's not and so recognizing that AI can oversimplify very nuanced or complex or robust theological issues is something to be aware of for sure danger number five is a little bit more of a problem with us than it is with AI and that is that we already have too much Tech we already use too much technology there's already too much time that we spend looking at our screens and looking at our laptops and working and social media and television and all the technology that surrounds our lives that that AI can be just one more reason to continue to look at a screen whether that's your phone whether that's your computer your tablet that AI can draw us into using more technology and I do think that we need to be aware of that now in light of the first danger which is AI getting in the way of the purpose I think that it's very important if you are going to use AI for Bible study it's very important to put your own parameters around some of the time in which you will use Ai and then time that you'll spend away from all your technology away from any AI tool away from your tablet anything it is important to to let AI or a YouTube video or any Tech be a a voice in the conversation but always lead us back to that relational Bible study to lead us back to a time of meditating on scripture internalizing it praying through it talking to God about it listening to God and so his holy spirit can speak to us so that we become more in tune with the voice of God than with the information from any AI tool or any piece of technology or any Bible teacher for that matter we need to remember that when we go to God's word we are having a direct conversation with God himself this is his inspired word given to you given to me and we need to spend more time looking at praying through thinking about pondering meditating on internalizing and uh focusing on God's word than we are any outside Source including AI danger number six is that it can remove people from the conversation I am a firm believer that if you want to understand God's word more uh uh read it more consistently and quite honestly enjoy it more that we need to include people in the conversation that it think of anything that you enjoy doing and whether it's sports or technology or music or cooking or I don't care what your hobby is my guess is you like to do it with other people and if it's something that's done alone you like to hear what other people say about it how other people do it get in input you like to talk about what you did with other people who are passionate about the same thing that anything that we talk about that we engage with other people on we will get more interested in and we will enjoy a lot more and I think so often the Temptation when using technology for Bible study is that we'll feel like we've kind of gotten all of the information we need we've we've read it and we've looked at this information and we just kind of move on and I think that that is a huge mistake that taking people out of the equation is just a huge detriment to our long-term understanding and love for God and his word so taking people out of the equation is never a good idea and we certainly need to be aware that AI can do that the seventh is kind of similar to the fifth in that it can replace meditating on scripture that I believe that when we read God's word God is speaking to us God is in relationship with us the holy spirit is reinforcing his truths into our own minds and hearts and meditating on scripture simply taking a passage of scripture chewing on it pondering it yes doing some research but coming back and and focusing on it praying through it sitting in Silence with scripture taking a look at reading big parts of scripture but but then also meditating on S single chapters or single verses or single words or phrases is so fruitful and so beneficial in in making sure that our minds are filled with God's truth and that we allow the truth to be louder I don't believe that the truth can be louder than the world's lies if we are never silent and still and listen for that still Small Voice so we need recognize that sometimes the research that we do and how much information we can and the rabbit trails that it uh takes us down can sometimes get in the way of us just taking time to sit be still pray and meditate on scripture so what do we do about it what do we do about these dangers how do we take something that is now a part of our culture and is showing up in everything we do from the apps on our phone to what happens at the store to everything online AI is everywhere so what do we do well I have found that the best way to to kind of put guard rails on AI is with a tool that yes this is a little promotional but that I helped co-create with my friend CJ McDaniel who is a tech and AI wizard has used AI to create tools for writers and he and I created Bible toolbox. AI Bible toolbox is a tool that you can use to to study the Bible to do background studies to do word studies to get context to look at so much but the way that it has been built and the links of course are down below for you to just check it out and it's it's something that that we like to talk about it as we've we're using the power of AI but we're putting guard rails on it so that it's not just going out and getting everything that's out there but it's filtering it the way in which we've built the the way the prompts get built it's using six different AI models at the time of this recording we're tapping into six different AI language models as well as some proprietary tools that CJ and his team have built in to make sure that what is coming back has has again I just like that picture of the guard rails that guard rails don't keep every single car that is trying to go off a road off but it is a reminder of where they are and keeps you going in the right direction and is going to be a a fantastic safety tool in 99.
99% of driving situations and so in Bible toolbox we have built those guard rails in I would love to have you check it out the links are below including a special link that will give you 40% off your lifetime license so I love to have you check out Bible toolbox. and again the coupon code is down below the link so that you can get a discount on that and of course we always offer a money back guarantee so if you try it and you look at it for 30 days and realize that it's not for you then we certainly don't want to keep your money on that so check out Bible toolbox.
