how to build your dream life so I've spoke about diet and exercise and building a healthy body in previous videos and that is a a huge part of life being healthy but I think there's four aspects to a good life I've mentioned them before but I thought now would be a good time to talk about my mental model for a good life so at the beginning of last year I designed for myself a model of how to achieve a good life and how to build your dream life essentially because we're here for a short time
100 years maybe slightly longer if technology gets better we want to make the most of it and enjoy it and have a good life we don't want to just go through the motions or at least I don't so I really thought about this and you have to answer one question so I speak about health and sort of physical tangible things because that's important to me me but I'm more of a philosopher I've got comments where I've made like mistakes about misquoting things and uh I didn't actually realize ascorbic acid is Vitamin C I didn't realize
that it was just the first thing that came to the top of my mind in a previous video but I do a lot of research and I read a lot of books whenever I'm interested in something and I'm trying to research something but the actual facts that's not what I'm interested in I'm more of a philosopher I think deeply and consider things so I'm not trying to give you scientific information I'm just trying to make you think and maybe you think about something that you wouldn't have thought of otherwise so for me I realized you
need to answer one question and Alan Watts an Old English philosopher said this you need to answer the question what do I desire if you can't answer that then there's no point really moving forward with anything what do I desire what do I want to get out of life and we tend to just go with what Society prescribes to us and I realized I would have conversations with my dad and my friends where I was always like pushing against what Society prescribed for me and I thought I was a bit odd but now in reality
I'm realizing most people don't want what what Society prescribes for them so for me it's taken me it's only very recently that I've been able to answer that question I'm 27 and it's only now last year helped me do that but really think what do I desire what do I want out of life and that's quite a confusing question because you've got what Society prescribes for most people then you've got what media presents as desirable so these are normally very material things then obviously you've got spiritual things some people become monks and that's what they
desire out of life and I was always somewhere in between I didn't want to fully be a monk and live the monastic life in a monastery but at the same time the material stuff like nice cars a big house and going on holiday twice a year but working a job to pay for that didn't resonate either so it's and the idea of a marriage like is marriage just an idea that's been handed down and everybody does it blindly or is there value to it so these are all questions I've had to consider and sort of
last year I think I'd been I'd been simmering on a lot of ideas for many years and last year I I got the answers to all of my questions really not not like in an epiphany but just because I've been thinking about it for so long so what do you desire what do you want out of life you can't achieve anything unless you actually know what you're going for so they say like a ship that leaves the harbor without a set destination is never going to make it there like it's just going to blindly go
out of the harbor that I've ruined that whatever that quote was but you get the idea if you have a map and the ship leaves with a set destination it will probably get there it might get blown off course by the wind but it knows where it's going and it's going to get there so you need to know what you desire and that is a deep question that's not just like oh yeah I want a Lamborghini and to go to beefer this is and also sometimes you think you want something so so take I don't
want to be too controversial but sometimes you think you want something and then you don't actually so take a Lamborghini for example okay cool I want a Lamborghini but you've got to ensure that car just Insurance on a Lamborghini is a lot of money so really what you want is a car that that's affordable to ensure so that that Lamborghini will become a liability if you can't afford to ensure it and also there's certain places you can't drive a Lamborghini especially on the island where I live you would be restricted so what I want is
a car that looks nice that can get me wherever I want to go and a Lamborghini isn't that but on the surface it's oh yeah why wouldn't I just go for a Lamborghini so you got to think deeply so you've got to really think through what you think you want and you might not actually want it so one example in terms of health for me was I wanted between 10 and 12% body fat and I wanted to be shredded and have abs and the closer I got down to that I was like I don't actually
want that there's downsides to be in that lean I'd rather be 15% body fat and that's the minimum effective dose for that area same with money you might think you want a really big house that's got loads of overheads and is very expensive when when in reality you want a smaller house that's cheaper more affordable I I haven't really done that point justice but think through there's always problems oh this was in the book [Music] um the subtle art of not giving a he would say the author said whenever you get something there's always problems
that go with it so take like a rich person with multiple cars okay you got multiple cars and that's nice and you can afford them but now you've got to look after those cars do you know what I mean or if you've got a big house you got to heat the house and maintain it so you got to be sure that what you think you want is what you actually want and you might end up you know the grass is greener on the other side you might get to that place and go oh actually this
isn't really what I want but you can think that through so so yeah so the the number one question you need to answer is what do I desire now at the beginning of last year I created a mental model for myself I called it the good life model it's how to create a good life and I I decided that it would take four years in every area so I sat down I meditated I deep journaled on what is a good life what do I desire and how do you achieve it and are most people walking
down the path that gets them this desired outcome and I would say most people in that follow Society aren't living a good life as prescribed bys like that they've decided on they're living the life you're meant to the the norm sort of thing so I created The Good Life model I actually just went on my computer to like bring it back up and share it and I've got this this bad habit of uh I don't hold on to things so if something's not serving me I'll delete it bin it sell it get rid of it
right so I deleted it but I will rewrite the The Good Life model and I'll crack out the pen and paper and see if it's any value to you guys so this is my model for choosing what is a good life for you and creating it in your life and that is going to be the four aspects belief health wealth and relationships so and you might think oh what's belief mental health or religion got to do with I come to this channel just to get abs or just to lose fat and build muscle or just
to solve my binge eating problem and I guess Tony Robbins would call it your why your belief is the lens through which you see the world if you're depressed you you know the the phrase Rose tinted glasses if you put Rose tinted glasses on everything looks Rosy well depression is the opposite of that depression is like into glasses everything you look at looks dark and Grim now the world hasn't changed your circumstance hasn't changed but your perception of it has so I would argue that belief is the the top of the list the top priority
when it comes to making any change in your life if you've got positive belief and a growth mindset you're more likely you're going to go to the gym and you you've got your why why are you going to the gym why do you want a Lamborghini and that's the driving force so without that do you believe in God do you believe in a higher power now people that do I believe have an extra source of energy to proceed from so I might alienate everybody that's just started subscribing to this channel cuz this is a bit
different and it's not just practical but there are practical steps to this but let me know in the comments ments do you consider this worthwhile or you just want how to get into ketosis how to intermittent fast so I'm still in the discovery phase figuring out what people are interested in so I'm going to head back home and crack out the pen and paper and we'll go through the good life model so I'll just mention as well so my plan was this was the format I took at the beginning of the year I thought right
you're not living your dream life you see other people that are living a life that you would be very happy with if they can get it you can get it it's if other humans have done something you're interested in then it's obviously achievable what is the difference between me and them right so I thought I'll create a model of reality and like a a step-by-step guide on how to get all the things that are important to me belief health wealth relationships so once i' made that I thought right there's gaps in my knowledge things that
I don't know that that person does know so that's just a case of learning what's the easiest way of learning by books so in each category I made a list of books 25 for belief 25 for health 25 for wealth 25 for relationships I heard if you read fre books in any given subject you will be more knowledgeable than most people that you will bump into in the street on that subject so say knitting for example you buy free books fre of the best books on knitting you could be sat in the sauna you could
be stood in a line in in the shop to wait to pay for your stuff you're going to know anyone you bump into you're going to know more about knitting than that person so I thought right you could do that about every subject so I chose my 25 books so at the beginning of the year I started reading all the books and I would make notes because I realized most books just have one or two valuable points the rest is kind of filler they're just padding out their idea they got one main point and they
tell you analogies and stories to make the point so I thought right I'm going to read these books and I'm going to write down the point and then I'm going to compile a list of the valuable information out of the books so distill down a 100 books into rules for life so during this process I got the book so I called it 99 books for life but it's 100 and there's more that I've read I haven't actually read all the books so just to make that clear but so I started reading the books I would
make the not take the notes and I would I was was essentially writing my own book at the same time so that's what I did I got halfway through this process I probably got 50 books in plus loads of other books I've read and I realized that there was one key thing missing which was taking action so it's all right reading the books but knowledge in absence of experience doesn't become wisdom so you need to actually act on the knowledge and where I was quite focused on it it was taking up a lot of time
and I realized should focus on taking action so I did do that I wrote half the book I read all of the belief books and all of the health books so I wrote half a book and published it so I've got a physical copy I'll show you that and in it it's called rules for life no it isn't it's called life rules 96 practical steps for building a dream life or something I'll show you the I'll show you the book and the title and it's split up into those four sections and it's got my rules
so we'll go through those in the future so I just thought I'd I'd uh introduce you to that so you know what I'm referencing when I do it it's my book I didn't write it to publish it to put it out in the world I wrote it for myself it's something I can refer back to and remind me oh what habits and beliefs and actions are going to actually build the life you want because the world can be quite confusing and there's a lot of options to procrastinate and throw off and this is my little
anchor the book has got the information that says no this is what you should be doing so we'll head back actually what I'll do is there's quite a lot in this video to think about so I'll give you some actionable steps and then tomorrow's video will be I'll show you the book and we'll go through the good life model so my actionable step is deep Journal this so take an A4 page of line paper in the top at the top in red writing you want to answer a few questions so you want to answer what
do I desire what do I want out of life and then you can ask what does a perfect day look like map it out from when you wake up what time do you wake up who do you wake up next to who's in your house where do you live what kind of house do you live in what kind of food when are you eating your first meal what kind of food is that going to be what activities are you going to do in that day what kind of work so you're building a schedule of the
perfect day and if you can't answer that if this if you're like struggling to answer that then how do you how are you going to achieve your dream life if you don't even know what it looks like and don't you there's a tendency to want to get a bit out of control with this and go I wake up in the Bahamas I don't do anything all day I just sunbathe you don't want that you may think on the surface it sounds good but you will you will find that after a short period of time that
no longer satisfies and you will actually want to go to the gym and build a business and help people in in a meaningful way or do some kind of a work or craft that is valuable and fulfilling it's all about Flow State as far as I can tell you want to get into flow with the activity you're doing and you will get so bored of sunbathing into the Bahamas it might take you a month to get bored of it but that's not what you truly desire so what do you want and uh yeah deep journal
and meditate on that and this might take you a while to come up with the answers and you think oh I really want this who's who's your dream partner if you're not already with somebody how many kids do you want if you don't have children do you know the answers to these questions so that would be my actionable step for today really deep journal on what you desire and if you already have it this is a time to be grateful if you already have you've already built the dream life cuz some of the audience might
be older then be grateful for it and really relish the fact that that you do have what you dream like what you what your dream life would be so yeah I reckon that's it uh tomorrow I'll introduce you to the book and the good life model hope you have a good day boys done right I'm not actually done my mate Shane mentioned in the saer earlier he said he watched one of my videos and he said it was funny you you ended the clip you said done and then you come back on with something else
so I just thought I'd do that again but this is like the Vlog bit of the video for anybody that's interested uh today is I'm recording this on Friday but I'll probably post it the day after so today we did the early morning sea swim so and the sunrise was beautiful actually so we did sea swim sauna afterwards and then we drove over to core Abbey which is a monastery close to where I live bought some beeswax candles I've been getting into the habit of lighting a candle just before I go to sleep because I've
noticed if I have fires like a a bonfire and looking at the Embers at the red light my sleep and my dreams is a lot better so I thought I'd do that with a candle and you don't want to burn normal you definitely don't want to burn soy candles or just normal candles that you buy in a shop that are fragranced because they I think they're again I'll probably get this wrong but I think they're petroleum based and when you light it it's essentially filling your house with um toxic fumes it's like running a car
if you imagine a car runs on petroleum and you're burning a petroleum a petrol candle Beeswax is the opposite so beeswax actually I literally just read the label it's the only negatively charged candle uh it produces negative ions or something it actually removes toxins from your house so beeswax if you're going to have candles Beeswax is the way to go and normally unfragranced is good so yeah we just went corab saw the pigs lit a candle bought some candles and yeah now I'm just in nature getting some sunlight in hope you have a good day
boys I'm going to eat some food as well I reckon it's beef time done so yeah it just kind of occurred to me that today's video was just a goal setting video that you want to have goals but you want to be very specific and be able to visualize the goal so for many years I just had the goal of lose weight I was overweight so lose fat essentially I just want to lose weight now I never really got anywhere with that goal because it was very Broad and not specific enough but so when setting
goals they want to be specific measurable and time bound when do you want to get those goals by so for me I was like I want 12% body fat 160 lb in one year that's a lot more specific than just lose weight so it creates kind of urgency and I I went on Google and typed in 5' 7 m 160 12% body fat and you can find on Reddit I found pi pictures of dudes my height exactly what my goal is so you can physically see it you're like oh that's what I want to that's
what I'm going for whereas just lose weight is too Elusive and you're not going to be able to focus on it and actually create a plan to achieve it so you want to be able to see it so if you're trying to build your dream life and you think oh I want a nice house I have a house I live in ride and there's a town next door called SE view I literally have a house I can tell you the house number that's my that's my goal I'm going to own that exact house now you
might not end up with that but the spec like being that specific about it just changes how you you work towards it I believe so yeah specific measurable time bound done I'm actually done this time maybe
