I started a YouTube shows channel seven days ago with the goal of turning it into a business within a 30-day period this video is everything that I did within the last week so you can get started to day one creating the channel I first decided on what type of shorts content I wanted to create I decided on my Niche by going to YouTube and typing in hashtag shorts to find a niche that is already trending with high engagement because you want to immediately start getting views without having to worry about growing a fan base I
selected basketball content but there was literally so many different niches that can generate you millions of views if you're stuck pick a niche that you've watched before or that you're already interested in because you'll have a head start on knowing what content is already trending within your Niche it's now time to create the channel and this requires you to name the channel name it something that is short in length and relates to your Niche since my channel focus is basketball I named it back aboard this relates to my Niche because the backboard is a key
part of the basketball court and once a channel is created it's time to make your logo and banner I use Photoshop to create mine which costs 15 per month but you can find many free alternatives on Google such as canva the logo I created was a simple text icon with my channel name in Orange this relates to my Niche since orange is typically the color of basketballs and just to prove you don't need to pay for any software to get started this is what I made in canva versus the what I made in Photoshop I
then created my banner using a similar style of fonts and colors to keep my branding consistent both the logo and banner may require some imagination but you can turn to other popular channels for some inspiration again it's very important that you don't spend too much time on the step because you want to focus on what actually gets you views and this brings us to The Next Step which is to create your first short I use Premiere Pro to create my shorts and this is included within the Photoshop plan for under 15 per month if you
don't want to pay there are also many free video editing softwares that you can find on Google but before I actually created my first short I went onto YouTube and find out what's already trending within my Niche I did this by looking through high performing long form and short form content to find content that already had high engagement doing this immediately gives you ideas about what interesting moments you can include within your shorts while there's no guarantee that this trending content will work within your shorts it's the best place to start to do this I
search up keywords to describe the clip I just saw within the compilation or short and once I found the clip I download it using a free Google Chrome extension called YouTuber downloader by add-on crop if you don't use Chrome you can use Google to find many free alternatives to download your YouTube videos using those clips I just downloaded it was time to edit them if you are starting a short Channel like my backboard channel it's actually very important that you add edits to your Clips if you don't your content will be flagged for reused content
and your channel won't be able to be monetized within the future for my channel I am making funny or thoughtful visions of content I didn't originally create and my content won't fall within any of these don'ts after creating two shorts I publish them and hope for the best and by the end of day one I spent four and a half hours researching creating a Channel and editing the two shorts the time you spend on day one will vary depending on what skills you already have and to be honest I do have a lot of experience
creating YouTube shorts I grew my last channel to 50 000 subscribers within just 30 days so I do have a big Advantage within the 30 days to blow up my channel but I am showing you this process so you can also start your channel and you can start seeing the big numbers to wrap up on day one my first show Got 5 000 views and the second shot I created got 2 000 views day two I posted another two shorts and two shorts is what I've committed to post per day over the entire 30-day period
and this leads me to a key takeaway which is to remember that YouTube shorts is all a numbers game where the more you post the more exposure you get the more exposure you get the higher chance you have of going viral on my last Channel I posted 53 shorts over a 30-day period and just two of these shorts contributed to 86 percent of my total views across my entire Channel posting this frequently you will find out what works within your Niche much faster and then you can start pumping out viral videos day three to seven
on days three to seven I continued to post two shorts per day and just continue to try different types of shorts within the basketball Niche after day three you should start trying to think about how to make your videos more engaging through your edits your main goal behind any edit that you do should be to increase retention retention is the key YouTube metric behind any YouTube short going viral you can achieve this by having some type of edit every two seconds to keep the viewer engaged there are so many different retention tricks to keep your
viewer engaged but I will explain these in future weeks because you really want to master frequent edits and now it's time to Deep dive into the channel analytics over the last seven days so as I mentioned here's the start of the seven day period where we started posting two shorts per day on the first day the channel reached 7000 views and then decreased to 3 000 views on the second day we then reached a peak of 8 700 views on the third day at the bottom here it appears that we actually missed the day but
this is just an error we can come into our content list and we can see clearly that we never missed a day of posting two shorts across the entire week and while I'm here you can actually see that I had two shorts within the week that performed much lower than all my other shorts you may run into this issue as well on your channel and it means either one there's something wrong with your short or two YouTube just hasn't decided to push your short into the algorithm for this first short with 15 views there was
something wrong with it if we come into the analytics it's obvious that there's something wrong at the end of this video since the retention drops significantly after just 23 seconds and just by clicking we can clearly see that I made a mistake while editing the shorts since there's just a black screen playing for around 20 seconds the second video with low views just didn't get pushed into the YouTube algorithm there's not much you can do to fix this just try reposting it and see how many views you get and for that short after reposting it
it got 205 views and the other issue with the black screen I fixed it and then reposted it and it got 418 views just make sure you give at least three days to the short before you decide is not being pushed towards the algorithm because for example this shot here I posted it two days ago and it took an entire day before it got pushed into the algorithm now back to the channel analytics we can see that views remain around two thousand to two thousand views before we reached another peak of around 8 000 views
and then another drop to around 4 000 views we can see that the watch time subscribers all follow a similar Trend while these views are low it's important to remember that in your first week you can't expect your views and subscribers to go crazy it takes some time to learn what works within your Niche and for YouTube to actually start recommending your content to the right viewers take my last channel for example my most viral short took 20 days before I started to get picked up by the YouTube algorithm so any of these shorts that
you post within the first week could literally blow up and become viral towards the end of the 30 days and here's the rest of my analytics for the first week just pause the video and have a look if you want to learn all about my viewers whatever you do just don't get discouraged continue to post shorts and learn from every single shot that you publish and before you know it you'll have your first viral short by the end of next week hopefully I will have my first viral short and I will explain some editing strategies
that you can do to increase retention and then hopefully you can start consistently making viral shorts
