[Music] from making beer to keeping the lights on women are crucial to keeping the country running what is not to love about Brewing the people in the culture is what's kept me here but not all of them are sharing the prosperity for the first time the publication of gender gaps at every business with more than 100 workers will give Millions the chance to see if what companies say and do about gender equality matters is up Airlines Faire poorly with gaps much larger than the national average of 14.5% for base pay mea warw worths and Kohl's
Fair much better some insurance companies are above the national average so to is BHP while Rio Tinto has a negative result meaning women are paid on average more than men and the big Banks vary with the Commonwealth Bank recording one of the worst results of a large employer a common theme a large predominantly female Workforce in retail branches is paid much less than workers in head office and those in technology clearly there's more to do I mean there's so many roles now for both us and I think for many large employers getting more uh graduates
female graduates more uh women into stem subjects the gender pay Gap at Brewer lion is just 1.4% it's black and white to me I don't think there's any question around why and why not we should be doing it at AGL the gender pay Gap is more than 30% we're seeing a lot more female apprentices coming through compared to when I first started here 10 years ago certainly in terms of our operators we're seeing more females in yeah literally at the coace some popular brands like City Chic valley girl forever new seafolly and Lana Jane sell
almost exclusively to women you'd have extremely high gender gaps many have an army of low paid retail staff largely female and a small number of men on big pay packets in head office that boost the figures this is not about equal pay for equal work that's been the law since feminist Advocate Zelda Deano was fighting for that more than five decades ago the gender pay Gap is the difference in the average or median wage between men and women in the same organization and it comes about through things like women taking more leave for caring and
historic barriers to higher wages and Financial Security and that's what makes the gender pay Gap small when you have women in all levels and in all parts then you're getting a fairer pay Equity across the organization is companies have been giving the data to the workplace gender equality Agency for almost a decade receiving a report back about where they sit in their industry and how to improve but that didn't move the the dial so we've got radical transparency with figures that will be updated annually it's about shining a light on that differential in each and
every workplace um and the accountability that comes with that Economist Sylvia Salazar says pay audits like this one increasing the number of women in senior positions and policies around flexibility all help to decrease the Gap but the biggest factor is management taking it seriously if there is a mandatory reporting to the boards the gender pay Gap will see a decline in in those uh in those places publishing the results will lead to uncomfortable conversations in boardrooms and break rooms around the nation which Brewer Selsa Wilton thinks is a good thing not just because we've got
a a a box to tick or a quota to meet but because the way you know you want that diversity in thinking we've got a long way to go
