the fourth most popular religion in the world is Hinduism which 900 million people believe in making up 11.8 5% of the world's population while being so popular it has no single founder no single scripture to follow and no commonly agreed to set of teachings and while this explanation is highly condensed Hindus more commonly follow their own personal or more locally written text which is modeled after what's called the Vedas this was a collection of poems and hymns which was comprised by people living in Northwest India between 1500 and 1200 BC Hindus also closely follow sauna
Tana herma which I'm sorry if I am in advance if I pronounced that wrong but it's the eternal set of duties every person has including honesty refraining from entering living beings goodwill and mercy just to name a few in Hinduism they're divine beings can take many forms but the common spirit is called Brahman Hindus don't believe in heaven or hell they simply believe in a continuous rebirth process which releases the body from its limitations and frees the spirit this is called moksha in the Vedas it commonly refers to some people as a third sex this
third sex is loosely defining either people who cannot have sex do not have the desire to have sex or for homosexual people who are attracted to those of the same sex members of this third sex including homosexual people are not ostracized from the religion in fact they are sometimes even considered to have divine powers or insights so that's pretty cool now while their ancient text does not specifically mention homosexuality or heterosexuality for that matter it does mention procreative and non-procreative sexual acts these procreative acts must be within a marriage in order to have the Hindu
blessing as for the non-procreative axe it includes every sexual act which is not done to procreate in other words all gay sexual acts and even some straight sexual acts such as oral but even in the ancient texts these acts are not in any way discouraged for the common man they are only discouraged for priests so unless you're a Hindu priest you are allowed to love whoever you were meant to love and you're allowed to do whatever you want to do with those of the same sex and it is not a sin the Hindu American foundation
notes that quote given their inherent spiritual equality Hindus should not socially ostracized LGBTQ individuals but should accept them as fellow sojourners which are their version of parishioners on the path to moksha so in Hinduism being gay is absolutely fine though I will note that some Hindu communities are not LGBTQ friendly not because of their religious beliefs but because of the attitudes imported from conquering nations thank you so much for watching this episode of powered by rainbows if you liked it and want to support more content like this please consider pledging to our patreon page where
