You buy health insurance hoping you'll never have to use it. And if you're lucky, you don't. No claims, no hospital visits.
So, your policy just sits right there. Quite. But what if your insurer actually gave you something for staying healthy?
Turns out they actually do. It's called free health checkup. And most people don't even realize it's included in their plan.
[Music] Hi everyone, I'm Shashank from Ditto and in this episode of Health Insurance 101, we're talking about one of the most underused benefits in your health insurance policy, free health checkups. So if you're not sure whether your plan offers this or how to use it, book a free call with DTO. We'll break it down for you.
So what is this benefit exactly? Most modern health insurance plans offer free preventive checkups every 1 or two years. It's the insurers's way of helping you stay healthy and engaged even when you're not making any claims.
So, what's usually covered? Basic blood tests, liver and kidney function, cholesterol, thyroid, ECG, urine analysis, and sometimes advanced screenings based on your age or gender. Now, you might ask, Shashank, why do insurers offer this?
Well, couple of reasons. It promotes early detection of chronic illnesses, reduces the chance of major hospitalizations later, keeps customers engaged with the insurer, and encourages long-term health tracking and loyalty. There's one thing that's important, though.
Using this checkup generally doesn't affect your Nokia bonus. So, there's no downside. But there's a catch.
It's usually available only after one to three renewals and some insurers only offer it once every block of two years and you may have to go to a network lab for cashless or pay upfront and get a reimbursement later. Also folks, there's often a limit like 2,000 rupees per year or 1% of your summons. Here's a little quick pro tip from DTO.
Some insurers now let you book health checkups via their app cashless. So things to check in your policy. Who is eligible?
self or all members in the family floater. How often can you use it? Is it cashless or reimbursement?
Which centers are allowed? What's the cost cap? So, if you're paying 10,000 plus rupees in premiums every year, you should be using every benefit of your policy offers.
And health checkups are one of the very few features you can actually use without falling sick. Some insurers might offer this health checkup benefit as an add-on. and it may still be worthwhile to opt for it as the cost of the add-on is often less than the overall cost of the health checkups itself.
So take that test. It could save your life or at least your bonus. In the next episode, we'll talk about alternative treatments like Ayurveda, homeopathy, and naturopathy and whether they're covered by your insurance.
