Ludwig Wittgenstein was a mathematician philosopher also I think a German soldier in World War one but Wittgenstein is probably 20th Century Car one of the most Brilliant Minds that probably ended up shaping most of social thought after his life right people credit Nitra and people speak of Marx very often I think Wittgenstein is where you begin if you want to understand maternity now why am I talking about this well partly because Wittgenstein was the guy who came up with the idea that to a great degree our thoughts are limited by the words we know and
this video is about that this video is about helping you understand how you can have a very rich and a very Broad and a very wide and a very deep and like how you can connect let's say your tongue and your mind properly how you can speak your thoughts out how you can have a very rich vocabulary and before we begin talking about what we'll cover in the video let me first answer the question who is this video foreign foreign foreign Works listen to this video try and follow this advice if you are able to
complete what I tell you to do the way you interact with the world will change quite a bit get it my name is Gupta and I build more confident in Minds [Music] why does having a good vocabulary matter well because having a good vocabulary makes you a beast how you ask how well bro number one words are how you think all thought is reflected in words if you do not have the word for it you cannot think and if you cannot think you can actually not innovate at all in any way you don't need to
necessarily innovate in Tech you can't even innovate upon people in your relationships with them you cannot get away from a conflict you have with your father because you do not have the words to tell him how you feel number one number two your internal monologue also happens in words the way you talk to yourself is also consequence of words and if your life is confusing and you don't know what to do and you do not understand why you feel this pain or this anxiety or this depression or this or that or whatever it's because you
don't have the words for it when you sit in therapy what are you going through figuring out words for the feelings that I have that I've not looked at you are not able to map reality properly not even your own reality because you're so abysmally poor with language particularly Indians who use a mixture of Hindi and English we are poor at both Hindi and English movies foreign France anyway number three is most of your life when you speak to people when you interact with people be that in a fight or be that as friendship and
love on some level you are negotiating on what version of reality is true jabab um key all your interactions with the world is a fight between your version of reality versus someone else's version of reality and the reason you are constantly losing this battle is because you do not know how to employ words properly this is exactly why I started art of conversation as a matter of fact I was surprised by it I said how people engage in their social reality is a report card on how they are doing psychologically internally because when you talk
to people what you're really doing is putting what is inside out and your shames and your fears and your insecurities and your talent and your techniques are a representative of what is inside so when you talk to people when you socialize it reveals what is inside your head quite a bit and if you want to truly help what is inside your head one way to go about it is mastering the outside more than 50 of your life is spent negotiating with people and you lose all those rounds because you do not have the words for
it as a matter of fact if you are able to understand the current economics of this moment where money is at In This Moment why Elon Musk needs to tweet so heavily to make Twitter into X rather than just saying this is X why brands are no longer as sexy and influencers are you will understand why is it important for you to believe in my version of reality because money is with attention right now everything has become an influencer-led business we just don't call them influencers the Republican party in America has become a trump-led business
BJP has become a modi-led business well party Twitter has become an Elon Musk LED business threads in Instagram has become a zuckerberg-led business at all points in time we are fighting for what version of reality is true in a world where everybody shares reality with everybody all the time on social media the real conflict is who do you give attention to and words dictate who you give attention to that is why I'm in the business of attention that is why I continue to be an influencer because I know that this is a long-term play attention
is an asset you cannot take away from me the fourth and this is to some degree very honestly building upon what Wittgenstein said building upon what post-modernist philosophers have rightly concluded if you spend enough time with Foucault or derida you understand the easiest way to manipulate you is in a place where you do not even have the words for it lawyers their direct consequences of it where is this line from we are unfree because we do not even have the language to articulate our own freedom I wrote it no I don't I didn't write it
I read it somewhere I don't even remember but I think this is from the British uh sorry British American Civil movement this was a very common understanding if you don't even have the language to articulate our own freedom to manipulate you the easiest place I have to take you is where you don't even know what we're talking about where you don't even have words to explain your experience this is the reason why vocabulary is so goddamn important and I was lucky because I was raised by lawyers man I was raised by lawyers and judges and
so on so I knew how words hold weight in what happens in the world there are two large types of vocabulary vocabulary vocabulary ensures you understand many things well and depth ensures you understand one thing very well foreign as well as a Bollywood director he has width of vocabulary he has interest and words accessible to him in many different domains and even when he does not have a word to describe a specific thing he has parallel words in a different domain that he can cross-import and he can have a conversation with anybody he can speak
to a lawyer and he can speak to a doctor and he can speak to a physicist all the same that is with that comes from Reading broadly we'll come to how you build for that but that comes from Reading broadly that comes from following your curiosity that comes from asking meaningful questions and being unafraid to look stupid then there is depth which is your general model is but it is not just that it is your ability to understand why that word has been used and then represented in simple language forget what tharu does that's a
meme that's him understanding his brand and playing to it what you need to be able to do with whatever discipline you're engaged in bro I studied philosophy Matlab Autumn German philosophers idealist koibi German idealism Judaism and mysticism foreign [Music] and you will find that words just don't come out of nothing especially when you're trying to learn things there is a reason why this word is being used over that word like why Heidegger would say and not something else like being never meant being doesn't mean something more about being and there is a reason why he
insisted on using the German word even in English translations that became a thing he didn't use the word ego he could have Freud is German same tradition but he did not and that's the beauty of like being able to understand the depth of vocabulary so there are two types of vocabulary the x-axis and the y axis and both of them are important for you to cover the whole area what do you do to acquire great vocabulary because I'm not going to give you like vocabulary app download advisor read broadly read broadly across fiction non-fiction media
right scientific papers legal documents foreign I don't know if you've seen Oppenheimer yet and I'm not going to give you a spoiler but there is a scene particularly in there that shows how a lawyer brings out information and perspective from the client by just being very thorough with words if you're ever watching a Hindi movie Now put on English subtitles and see how these words get translated in fact if you listen to guys who speak in Hindi hear them articulate the same thing in English read them write the same thing in English translation because you
will see how one feeling that was written here expressed through these symbols translates to this language and that weirdly allows for this cross-pollination where you're able to speak and understand things better where you're able to place words for feelings better coordinates point to the same thing when you read without agenda then you learn better and also the vocabulary that you acquire stays with you better so read broadly read according to what your heart says tend towards law tend towards science some of the most beautiful places where actual vocabulary is used very very meaningfully I'm not
even saying read philosophy tend towards exploring two languages in translations you can do it with movies you can do it with speakers and writers and you can do it with books and then I would even suggest go on a free flow through Wikipedia bro as an exercise when I'm talking about reading one of the best exercises is read through Wikipedia just says foreign but Wikipedia is so much easier this was one of the most common things me and my friends would do bro at Columbia um and two hours on Wikipedia will teach you more about
vocabulary than anything else in the world two hours with the legal paper will teach you more about vocabulary two hours of watching great lawyers fight it out and a judge intervene and sort that matter out we'll teach you more about vocabulary than anything else two hours of watching two scientists debate science will teach you more about vocabulary than anything else that is how you fix the consuming part on the level of reading then I would say listen to a good variety of smart people one of the common mistakes you might end up making is listening
to one guy that one guy could be me that one guy could be somebody else and listening to us on repeat because we sort of fit your perspective I would listen to such a wide variety of people like back in college when I was really consuming content I can Pro I can give you a list just like that like Jordan Peterson's one I mentioned Osho is one I mentioned there was Sam Harris Sam Cedar there was Eric Weinstein Brett Weinstein Dave Rubin Heather haying there was Michael Shermer there was Tyler Cowen there was mentioned there
was uh Daniel Kahneman there was I there was a who can I think of Ezra Klein Russell Brand um dark Shepherd like I can just go on bro yeah these were uh Lewis cross Sean Carroll Neil deGrasse Tyson before lexan Andrew huberman existed these were the guys running podcasts and I was listening to all of them all the time I remember watching a debate between Foucault and Chomsky speaking in French Chomsky in English and they're debating an actual thing and I just was like wow this exists so like this is this is like McGregor or
khabib Ki fight saved on the internet for me right I remember watching kaneman debate Talib at New York Public Library I remember watching Kahneman speak to Sam Harris I was actually there live and so on and so forth listen to a great number of people let their voice infiltrate your head let them speak through you you learn their vocabulary very well in fact right when covet hit Eric Weinstein's the portal the portal was popping off and her episodes Eric would write an essay to communicate whatever he wanted to communicate or Fair conversation started I have
learned more about vocabulary just listening to those essays than anything else they're my favorite thing to listen to they don't even mean anything anymore right but just listening to the guy speak his mind out just listening to Eric talk about higher order physics and explain it to Mortals brilliant and the problem with doing this because it sounds so simple why why will you not do this is because when you start losing the thread of what is being said you will give up you will want to give up you'll want to be like um and that
is the exact point when you need to persist ENT it is in the act of getting lazy and frustrated and giving up where you lose most of the rusts because you build towards it you build towards it and they collapse instead of going further and handling the conflict so what I would do is and I would actually look up the meaning of this word and now when it has this word has come in a sentence it has come with a context it has come as a meaning or Miracle service and now that I've looked it
up I will not forget it your memory works on what you're engaged in foreign but this is how you acquire this is how you let words coming to your head now your unconscious will process your conscious mind will process how do I let's say acquire these words for yourself how do you make this vocabulary come to use and that involves a degree of using these words so we've managed consumption we manage the diet how do you use these words number one most of the time you spend communicating is through speaking agreed so when you are
speaking a wide variety of people right especially now let people tell you things bro just talk where are you from why are you here what is up and have a conversation from that if you're struggling with it go check out art of conversation but talk to a wide variety of people when you are talking about an intellectual point every time you are about to contest before I contest I will rephrase your point when I rephrase your point what I'm trying to do is but in rephrasing that I will also try to make your argument stronger
than what you left it at so I'm still Manning your argument as I rephrase it then when I'm responding normal levels but I'm focusing on getting the point across that is my agenda instead of sounding smart and winning in appearance yoga winning is not important sounding smart is not important impressing that person is not important getting your point across is important when I'm telling stories when I'm speaking to people met genuinely details or I have mastered what words to put where and therefore I've been able to employ a vocabulary so much better a vocabulary that
I constantly consume because I read I listen to people so on and so forth when you tell stories make an effort to be more Vivid describe things spend some time with that don't be afraid of using slang because depth of vocabulary professional settings fact of the matter is there are two languages there is a language of the internet which is roughly slang based mid ratio foreign put yourself in places where you have to articulate tough things like all of my YouTube career where I'm supposed to articulate a tough concept For Your Entertainment on the fly
on a stream that's where I learned it I was good at it I was good at it when I was debating intellectual points at Columbia with some of the smartest people I've ever known I was getting better but when I got on the internet and I was doing this live for thousands of people that is when I got good that is when I got great at it and if you manage to do all of these things which is talk to a lot of people first you know when you talk to them try to rephrase what
they say and when you rephrase it make it sharper when you tell stories be more Vivid when you tell stories include slang no problem and if you manage to do all of these things and put yourself in a place where you have to articulate tough things all while maintaining a single principle is if you're able to be meta honest about your truth if you're able to express just that that pressure that you put on yourself will force you to use better words to describe your experience every time that is the most organic way about of
organic way of going about learning a better vocabulary getting better at conversation getting better at articulation is if you put that and it's not even that you have to externally put that pressure bro foreign that pressure is alive which only wants to express in the symbolic using language it only wants to express that which is true and certain There is almost a psycho spiritual pressure upon you already let that happen let that take shape fix your diet let that pressure take shape in your interactions and you're good to go and the final point that I
wish more people followed is just writing back in school back at Columbia I was reading about 150 Pages a week average and I was writing about five to seven pages every two weeks average not only that at this point I've written a book at this point I've written so much stuff in so many places I don't even remember and now I've gotten to the point where I think I roughly write 7 out of 10 in my first draft itself of course like there is a lot of scope Beyond it but writing especially if you do
it as a routine keep these minutes and you're like how do I optimize my college experience I am not sure if I know what is right or what is wrong but here are my thoughts experience um foreign you need to be able to use it in a sentence and I think this as an exercise purely for just acquiring level-headedness in your mind with yourself also as an exercise on being able to plan your life better like I genuinely think this 30 minute meta honest writing every night is a superpower bro you will be in so
much control of your life there are so many things around you that are complicated it could be a relationship with your family or your spouse or your girlfriend boyfriend it could be the lack of friends it could be your insecurities it could be your desire to do this it could be um not knowing where you are in life all of those things are solvable by just articulating your thought properly using words and all you have to do is remain honest I am not completely sure my best guess is I may be wrong but I think
for now I think this is the right and bro trust me like this is it just reminded me of some of the conversations I have with my friends very often and I'll say something and they'll be like no no and my friends I'm like I'm just trying to be honest with myself you've seen it is foreign and so having that pressure or letting that pressure exist upon you as a pure psycho spiritual pressure that already exists upon you it's going to change everything then you just need formal conversations in writing and a proper diet you're
done bro you're done become a polymath become a leader lead from the front speak such that people are motivated speak in a way that people are risen to action so that they want to move forward and do something about it you have the power probably you've never been told probably you've never seen it yourself probably it's never arrived in your life where you looked in the mirror and recognized you for yourself and that is only and only because you did not have the words for you you haven't even begun to understand the mystery you are
because you do not have the words for you so with that
