excuse me Mr Green as you can see I'm an owl and I've never used a library before I'm not sure where I could find sources for my American history paper when you start a research project the first thing you need to do is come to the library or access your library's website so you're in the right place let's start with the libraries OPAC OPAC stands for online Public Access catalog most Library websites will allow you to access your libraryies opack from anywhere the OPAC is an inventory for all the libraries items it provides information about
where you can find books CDs movies magazines and more you can search for a book or other items in the OPAC by title keyword author or subject this is true for your school library and your local public library okay we get it Scott you really love the library will you let the man finish when you look something up in the OPAC it will give you a lot of information about the item the call number which is a combination of numbers and letters tells you where you can find a book in the library the subject headings
will also help tell you if the source is relevant to your research if your library has access to ebooks they may also show up in an OPAC search you may be able to access the eBooks on your computer or tablet right away so I can access to Kill a Mocking Bird on my Kindle sounds like quite the Thriller sure Boo in addition to the libraries OPEC there's also a lot of great information to be found in databases databases collect resources like journals newspapers and magazines and allow you to search for all of the individual articles
many School academic and public libraries provide access to electronic databases these databases sometimes Focus broadly on subjects like history or more specific areas of study like American history which databases Focus specifically on owls and how awesome we are I'll look into that for you but I don't think we have it but for your American history paper look at J store a database with a large collection of journals about American history if you're looking for primary sources we also have access to the New York Times historical database the content in data bases has been selected and
organized by professionals so it should be much easier to find a good credible source to a database than when using a search engine and just exactly what species are those professionals they're humans bbo good good I was nervous for a minute squirrels talk a good game but they know nothing about research but about those search engines can I use them to find sources for my paper search engines can be useful sometimes search engines are powerful tools that provide a huge amount of information to their users the quality of information search engines find varies a lot
compared to opacs or databases they are fast and return results quickly but you may spend more time looking through pages and pages of results for sources that might not be credible search engines use web crawlers to pick up different websites so that they are searchable I know that it might be intimidating to use an OPAC or a database but in the end it can save you time and energy that's right just remember you should definitely use your libraries OPEC and databases to find the information you need for your research paper thanks Mr green you're welcome
bbo come by anytime if you have more questions
