a funny story for me so for those two years that I was working for CVS Health um I was hired by a hiring manager who had no no impact in my day-to-day life right hired by a hiring manager uh and recommended by a senior executive so I was kind of uh shortcutted into my CVS role but then my direct Supervisor was a a new hire a guy named Tony D Petrillo and if Tony's watching Tony you're still an awesome dude so he was my my first line supervisor and so he he saw all of my
flaws very early on right like I didn't know how to use the systems I didn't have familiarity with project management I had to learn it all right but he saw right away like there's no way this guy was qualified for the job he was hired for two years later Tony has climbed up through the ranks I've climbed up through the ranks and my resume is finally cleared CIA finally acknowledges I'm a former CIA officer they send me the verbiage that I'm allowed to put into my resume um and of course for 2 years my 57,000
thoughts are I don't deserve this job I took this job from somebody else like I know I'm doing well but I'm a phony I'm a fake I'm a fraud so I take my resume and I go knock on Tony's door who's now in a different department a different office and I'm like hey Tony I just wanted to share this with you you probably recognized early on in my career that I wasn't very good at my job it was because I'm actually a former CIA officer and he looked at my resum sorry I li to you
he looked at my resume and he was like yeah we're never going to say that to anybody again just go ahead and take that back I don't even want to deal with what it means to hire somebody fraudulently just just don't even worry about it so and and to this day I like I mean a huge part of My Success was because Tony was a good boss and a good Mentor and that was not something I saw a lot of at CIA yeah um and and just seeing how little it mattered to him he didn't
care about my background what he cared about was my work ethic what he cared about was my willingness and my tenacity in the job to make him as my supervisor successful but also to make the whole team successful and really that's what it's about and at at the end of the day that's what it boils down to give your customers success give your teammates success success give your boss success you're always going to have a job it doesn't matter what your background or what your resume gaps look [Music] [Applause] likeed fres freedom
