let me tell you exactly why your study methods never work for you uncertainty you decide to actually start to study smart and you decide to do it with full conviction until you see someone doing ankey and doing 100 flash cards a day and like oh let me just try that like a sheep then your friend comes and shows you all of her pretty notes and you start looking through them oh these are so organized and nice maybe I need to make them maybe everything needs to be in front of me while I study and the
thing that you don't realize is that switching like this will lead to nothing working you'll just keep changing tactics again and again until there's so much to do you have a couple days before the exam like screw this you just end up reading and brute memorizing the knowledge that you're supposed to learn smartly and the reason that I know all of this is because I've done the exact same thing time and time again I know I'm the one that's always confidently talking about my study methods telling you what's efficient what's not but even so I
fell in the same trap a week before my exams I saw everyone doing 700 800 questions on this question Bank like just brute memorizing them kind of and I was like H maybe I need to actually start bashing through these questions as well maybe there's too much to cover maybe there's just not enough time for me to study as deeply as I usually do and I let the uncertainty there the comparison I let it get to me and I switch tactics completely and started doing hundreds and hundreds of questions a day and why is because
even at my stage I let those doubts come in I let everyone else's opinions about the exam supersede my own thoughts and my own tactics now this is what I should have done the second I had doubts about my method the way I'm learning knowledge all of it because having doubts is completely natural that's not the the issue what I should have done is sit back and ask myself what is the fear here why do you think this will not work there's too much to do there's all of this other stuff that I want to
do as well to make my knowledge even better I want to learn in this way and that way there's not much time there's only a week left I don't know if my system can accomplish it no relax even if you don't know a topic laying the basics creating a mind map that links 80% of the topics that covers them all that actually Compares allows you to compare different diseases that is still going to be way better than just brute forcing the knowledge with questions so let's compromise because doing the exam style questions are Al also
hugely beneficial let's cover all the basics for these topics these bunch of topics that you have to know really well let's cover them in the first half of the day build their base learn their Concepts learn the stuff deeply and then in the second half of the day do the mixed practice questions that covers the breath of medicine and then let's leave two full days before the exam to do those mix practice questions and really do those hundreds and hundreds of questions every day to get as much as much exposure because that side is also
helpful in in a breath type exam like the one that we're giving do you see what I did there number one allowed this fear of this being a time waste to fully come through number two I systematically work through why what I'm currently doing is actually super beneficial what is useful about what I'm doing but also I'm doing number three which is critically re-evaluating whether my strategy will actually work whether it actually be the best is there something that I can add on or change and I did without compromising ing the basics and the essentials
of learning see this is a systematic smart way of evaluating how you're doing things rather than aimlessly switching experimenting losing confidence confusing yourself and then not giving anything enough time to actually learn it properly at the end of the day people say oh you need to figure out how you are going to study best it's super unique the process is unique to you I don't buy it yes there are different techniques and different specific practices that suit different people better but the way we inherently learn best is by taking information in layers how you do
that specifically is your choice building the basics the first link everything together adding in conceptual understanding recalling and questioning yourself throughout the process forcing your brain to remember what you've learned in the future revision sessions spacing it out that is how we learn best it is proven now I've discovered that creating a mind map is the fastest way to link everything together and build your Basics even though the P us should be I used to be highly against them I didn't know how to do them my experience converting the information into questions and then recalling
from those questions has been a very very effective and efficient method for me to do like go through information very few times and remember it for much longer obviously there's so many ways that I can even think of I can I can give you a whole list of all the ways that you can recall knowledge and do it well and have a and integrate into your system but again that is the stuff that you can experiment on but the actual Essentials of how you learn that shouldn't change because if you can find better techniques and
practices to to do those same things to accomplish those same purposes then go go for it obviously now the second big reason I've seen people not be able to study smart is this let's say you've been watching me for a while and you've finally like bought into the idea that making notes is a waste of time direct directly converting the information that you're learning into questions or making questions or finding questions and then recalling from them is the way forward but then you finally do it and you realize oh it's actually pretty scary to only
rely on questions have no notes no like backbone of your studying knowledge like no nowhere to like go to other than just the questions and your resources and then you're doing them and then thinking making these questions and flashcards is actually pretty hard like it's it's difficult to convert that knowledge initially and it's taking a lot of time and I don't want to waste time and it's scary and then you think oh will this even work does this guy even know what he's talking about completely violent stuff but you've just been doing it for 3
days we have been trained by the system by our school for our entire lives to copy off the board do basically no learning and wrot memorize everything so obviously it will take time obviously switching your entire mental framework of your education to from from no learning to then solely relying on recall questions solely creating the mind maps all of this sort of stuff obviously it is a process that will take time you will have to consistantly in create the questions from the information in every class after every lecture for a long time and then plan
revision sessions where you practice from those questions as well you will need to do it for a long time before you see any results and I made a video on how you can can do this in I think 12 weeks I said I made like a 12E curriculum for for you guys let me link it up right here but from my experience completely switching and completely relying on the recall questions stopping the no whole not taking thing from lectures and everything it took me months to transition into that it took me a long time to
get the hang of it but I stuck it through I consistently did it for all my modules for all my topics for a whole semester only gradually was I able to see all the time that I had saved it wasn't just a 3day event where everything changed quickly and like a speed of light moment it was a long process of struggling to create the questions improving the questions actively recalling from the questions day in day out so having patience here having doing it consistently that is the second key and the third reason you're failing to
do well despite putting crazy amounts of time in your studying is the disregard you have for the rest of your life it's like you have two people in your mind one is The Logical smart guy that is telling you I know I know you're super busy I know you have a lot of work to do but I think today we need to sleep early we need to not get that t out we need to do an hour of exercise and then there's the other dirty workaholic who's saying hot looser you just don't want to work
you can't you're too lazy you can't be bothered that's why you're leaving early you want to waste more time yeah risk failing the exam and usually that second guy wins we keep pushing it and pushing it until we reach the point of full exhaustion like we know we should listen to the first guy he's literally shouting at us if you give me rest if you give me good food if you let me work out if you help me me I will help you more your mind will function fostter you will learn more it's Lally begging
for you to give it those things and yet we all we all usually end up saying no I can't waste time I need to focus and that is the reason we end up not being able to remember as much when we're studying that is the reason we can't focus as much why our energy levels are just shot throughout the entire day I can personally say that I fall in this trap so so often and I'm trying I'm trying I honestly am trying every single day to improve that about myself to incorporate more healthy habits because
I know if I don't give myself the minimums even in the most stressful of times if I don't give myself the sleep if I don't do the minimum workouts if I don't speak to people that I care about if I don't give myself the routine I will be depleting my productivity and my ability in the most severe way the athlete rests his body to recover and your mind needs the same it needs sleep it needs exercise it needs good nutrients and it needs moments of quiet to then become sharp to help you Excel focus and
work better than ever and if you don't give it those things if you choose not to give it those things you are choosing misery you are choosing for your work to be in effective and groggy and for you to feel lazy in the long term when your mind is the main tool that you are using to make decisions to learn huge amounts of information to run projects do businesses whatever that is the tool that you need to keep sharp the most and it's all about the choices that we make so what you do now number
one figure out a method that accomplishes the essentials of learning and stick with it yes adapt and critically evaluate the way you're doing things again and again throughout your process but don't switch methods completely have trust in it because the switching stuff is always going to let you down second have patience and Trust in your learning process as long as it involves building a strong base recalling knowledge and then learning deeply as long as it's efficient for you then give it time learning is a skill and thirdly stop ignoring the minimums and even in the
most stressful times of your life be that guy who is doing everything studying a crazy amount running projects running businesses all of it working out spending time with family eating healthy sleeping well not giving into his addictions it is all doable and all you need to do is start with incorporating one of those healthy habits in your daily routine right now and sticking to that routine and you will see the positive snowballing effect the positive domino effect of all of it anyways if you're interested in the study techniques that I specifically mentioned the mind maps
the recalling questions I've done those live I'll link them here I'll link some other videos to help with that process help you figure out your study method as well I'll link those here and how to learn smart go through those videos if you're interested please leave a like spam the comments help me out with the algorithm check my inst out do all the usual stuff support the channel and I will see you in the next one
