Hey Nerd, what's up? Peter Here! As I told you, The Last of Us is a gaming classic.
Come to think of it, it's almost 10 years old, as it was released on the PS3 in 2013! It appeared at the very end of the PS3 era, then it was remastered for the PS4 and now there's a neat remake released for the PS5 in 2022. That aside from the series that came out on HBO Max, it's at the top, people just talk about it.
That is, it's hype as hell! But the story of this game is tricky, so we decided to stop and tell you this story, including so that you can also compare it with the series to see what we can suddenly find more for the series. So, of course, there may be a lot of spoilers here for those of you who are also following the series, okay?

I guarantee you, by doing this you'll always stay on top of what's going on in the nerd world. Lets go guys. The story begins in the year 2013 in the city of Astin, Texas.
Joel was a single father living with his daughter Sarah. One night Joel comes home from work and his daughter Sarah gives him a watch for her birthday. A few hours later, Sarah has fallen asleep and Joel takes her to bed.
After some more time, Sarah is woken up by the phone, and when she answers, it was her desperate uncle Tommy wanting to talk to Joel. She is confused, so Sarah goes to look for her father, and on the way she finds the TV in the living room on, with a report talking about an infection and deaths. Soon after, Sarah sees explosions and police cruisers looming outside.
It doesn't take long for her to find Joel, who enters the house desperate to get his gun. He says that their neighbor had gone crazy. This neighbor soon breaks into their house and starts on Joel like a madman, and Joel has no choice but to shoot him in self-defense.
Soon after they leave the house and find Tommy, who takes them away in his car. Tommy explains that the townspeople have gone mad because of a parasite and that the authorities are blocking the exits. The city was in chaos, but the 3 manage to find an escape zone out of there.
But the situation complicates when they encounter a soldier, who, on orders from his superiors, ends up shooting Joel and Sarah to death. Joel is eventually saved by Tommy, who kills the soldier with a headshot. But Sarah wasn't so lucky, getting shot straight and dying in her father's arms.
So, because of this infection, the world was changing little by little, without stopping. The proliferation of the fungus became something uncontrollable, and this whole mess turned the world into an apocalypse. This fungus that caused all this chaos is called Cordyceps, which until then only affected ants, but it mutated and began to affect humans, turning them into a type of zombie.
But they are not zombies, because zombies are living dead, in the case of the infected in this universe they are just living, infected who have lost control over themselves. The government creates quarantine zones in cities and abuses authority to maintain order. But not everyone was happy with this, and some civilians started to create their own organizations and create revolutions.
It was the case of Marlene who founded the Fireflies. The Fireflies basically have the goal of freeing the people from the military's abuse, but they also want to find a cure for the infection. Joel and Tommy survived by becoming marauders and mercenaries.
They've done a lot of horrible things they're not proud of in order to survive. After a while, the two begin to fall out and end up separating. Tommy has joined the Fireflies, while Joel meets a woman named Tess and becomes her partner, working as a smuggler.
In the meantime, the events of the Left Behind DLC take place. A girl named Ellie was taken in by the Fireflies, since her mom and Marlene were really good friends, and Marlene kind of started taking care of Ellie after her mom died. Despite this, Ellie does not become a member of the faction, instead she is taken to one of the military-run schools, while Marlene takes care of her from a distance.
There, she ends up meeting another girl named Riley. The two became friends, but broke up after a while when Riley decided to try her luck to join the Fireflies. Until one day, Riley just appeared back to Ellie, and took her friend on an adventure in an abandoned mall.
Ellie had been angry with Riley because she disappeared, but soon they are on good terms and there is even a little clime between them. Riley was ready to leave the Fireflies to be with Ellie, but they end up drawing the attention of the infected, who attack them. In that, the two end up being bitten, so there was no turning back.
They would transform in a few hours. There was no solution! There is no cure for an infected person, there is no cure for someone who is bitten.
They decide to stick around and wait to go crazy together. The problem is that it doesn't, at least not for Ellie. Only Riley transforms and goes insane.
Ellie, even though she is bitten and obviously infected, doesn't transform like the others. This only happened to Ellie, she was bitten and didn't transform. She then goes to Marlene and tells her everything that happened.
Ellie is somehow immune to the fungus infection, so she has come to be seen as humanity's hope for ending this threat. Three weeks after that, we return to the events of the main game. It had been 20 years since all this shit started.
Cities became quarantine zones and the survivors who lived within them were obliged to carry out the orders of the government and the army. Joel was now living in Boston's quarantine zone as a smuggler, and had Tess as a business partner. One day they go after a guy named Robert, who had stolen a large amount of weapons that they were smuggling.
The two go after this guy, and after killing a bunch of smugglers, they surround Robert and ask about the weapons. Robert reveals that he sold the fireflies the guns, so Tess kills the guy and they decide to look for the group. But Marlene appears to them soon after.
She was injured and needed help with a job, so she decides to hire Joel and Tess in exchange for them getting their guns back. The job would be to take Ellie to a Firefly hangout. Even without understanding why, they confirm that the weapons are with the guys and accept the job.
On their way out of town, the trio are accosted by soldiers, who begin scanning them to see if they are infected. When it comes time to scan Ellie, the girl stabs the soldier and the smugglers manage to finish off both of them. But when they look at the soldier's device, they discover that Ellie was infected.
Scanner showed that Elle was infected. Ellie then explains that she had been bitten 3 weeks ago, and a person transforms in at least 2 days. Therefore, the duo understands that the Fireflies want to see if they can produce a cure from Ellie.
That is, Joel and Tess understand why they are with Ellie, a big thing, because she was not transforming, she could really be the cure for this infection. Joel doesn't take much faith, thinking that Marlene set them up or something. Tess, on the other hand, has become even more committed to helping, so they move on.
It was a balance, more or less not believing it and Tess completely believing it. They arrive at the meeting point, but there they find the crew dead. Tess gets desperate and says that they have to take Ellie to Tommy, as Tommy would know where this lab is.
Joel still didn't take faith, not thinking it was worth the effort. But that's where the revelation happens, because it was Tess who was infected. She was bitten about an hour ago, and her wound was already worse than Ellie's.
Ellie's was 3 weeks old, Tess's 1 hour. Then there was no way, how could Joel doubt that? The military starts to come in to capture general, so Tess decides to stay behind and sacrifice herself so Joel and Ellie can escape.
After escaping, Joel ends up deciding to continue with the mission. The next step would be to look for an associate of Joel's named Bill, who owed the guy some favors. Bill helps Joel get parts to start a car, and after some confusion and battling some infected, they get the parts and Joel and Ellie move on.
Some time later, the pair ends up being ambushed by hunters, who are people who attack and kill other people to steal their supplies. Joel and Ellie face the hunters, and the experience serves to make Joel and Ellie even closer. They really started to create a stronger relationship there, right?
Shortly thereafter, they also end up meeting two brothers named Henry and Sam, who are survivors who wanted to join the Fireflies. So Joel and Ellie decide to work together with the brothers to get out of there. They pass through the hunters' territory, but are attacked by some infected.
They manage to get rid of the enemies, but Sam ended up being bitten. So, the next day, Sam was already transforming and attacks Ellie. At the end of this confusion, Henry himself kills Sam with a shot, and in the face of everything that happened, he takes his own life shortly thereafter.
A few months later, the two arrive in the region where they should be able to find Tommy. They end up finding Tommy at a hydroelectric plant. Now Tommy was no longer with the Fireflies, and was part of a group of survivors led by his wife Maria.
After the brothers reunite, Joel explains the whole situation and asks Tommy to take Ellie to the Fireflies. Tommy doesn't like the idea, but after thinking it over, he decides to accept the stop. Except that Ellie heard that Joel was passing the ball to Tommy and didn't like it, and decided to run away.
Well, are you making an object out of me, are you passing me on to someone else? Ellie was enjoying hanging out with Joel, so she did that, she ran away. Joel and Tommy find her in an abandoned house, and she shows that she was sad that Joel wanted to discard her like that.
That is, they already had a relationship, at least in her mind, right? Well, Joel's had them too. There is a serious conversation between the two, where there is even a comparison between Ellie and Joel's late daughter, Sarah.
But after a mess and more fights against infected, Joel decides to go back and leaves with Ellie to the Fireflies, which according to Tommy, are installed at a University in eastern Colorado. But when they get there, the Fireflies have already left too, after being attacked by hunters. But this time, the duo finds a recording that reveals that the Fireflies are now in a hospital in Salt Lake City.
They decide to go there, but on leaving the university they are attacked by hunters, and in that attack, Joel ends up seriously injured. While looking for medicine for Joel, Ellie ends up meeting two guys, and agrees to trade a deer she had hunted in exchange for medicine for Joel. And to make sure they don't pull any pranks, she takes one of the guys hostage.
But the beef starts when she discovers that the guy who stayed with her, named David, was the leader of the hunters who attacked them in Colorado. She gets the medicine and gives it to Joel, but ends up being captured by the hunters. She wakes up in a kind of human butcher shop, and discovers that the hunters led by David were also cannibals.
But David had “ulterior motives” with Ellie, if you know what I mean, but Ellie manages to avoid the worst and run away. This ends with Ellie brutally killing David after he tries to abuse her. In the meantime, Joel recovered and managed to locate Ellie, arriving at the exact same time as she killed David.
These events would change Ellie forever. After all these traumatic events, Joel and Ellie arrive in Salt Lake City, and after going through some hard times fighting infected, they are found by Fireflies and taken to the hospital. There, Joel meets Marlene, who reveals that Ellie was about to undergo surgery to remove the Cordyceps from her body.
It appears that the Cordyceps in Ellie's body has mutated, and this mutation is the cause of Ellie's immunity. Only if the fungus is removed will scientists and doctors be able to reverse-engineer it to create a cure. But there was a problem.
Cordyceps stays in the brain, which means if it's removed, Ellie will die. Upon hearing this, Joel does not accept sacrificing Ellie, even though he knows that it would mean saving the whole world. He didn't trade the whole world for Ellie, he didn't want to.
Joel now saw Ellie as a daughter, and he didn't want to lose her like he lost Sarah. So, Joel starts attacking the fireflies and killing everyone. He arrives in the operating room, and kills all the doctors.
Joel takes the still unconscious Ellie and goes to the parking lot to get a car. And there he meets Marlene. Marlene tries to convince Joel to give up on it all, as sacrificing herself to save everyone was something Ellie would agree to do.
But Joel didn't want to know, and he just kills Marlene and takes Ellie away. In the car leaving Salt Lake City, Ellie wakes up and asks what happened. Joel lies straight to his face and says that there were other people who were immune like Ellie, and that the Fireflies couldn't find any cure from them.
So they had given up looking for a cure. Ellie is disappointed by this and brooding for the rest of the trip. They return to the Jackson area, where the community that Tommy is now part of was located.
They planned now to join this guys. When the pair get there, Ellie stops Joel. She is frustrated after everything they've been through and asks Joel to swear that everything he said about what happened in Salt Lake City is true.
Joel, keeping his face straight, lies again and swears it was all true. So, even though Ellie decides to believe Joel, even if she isn't fully convinced yet. Well guys, this is the end of the first part, part 1 of The Last of Us.
