let's eat like locals hey there man fam today we are taking you to some of our favorite local spots in Orlando Orlando is obviously known as a tourist destination but it actually is quite a vibrant culinary scene outside of the theme parks and touristy areas so today we are headed to three very different locations around the area we're excited to bring you with us I'm hungry me too let's go okay first up we are headed to Yellow Dog Eats this is a casual cafe that specializes in craft barbecue and sandwiches we're at their original location
in gotha Florida and I'm excited to dive in Yellow Dog Eats is located about 253 minutes away from the Magic Kingdom and about 20 minutes from Universal Studios just as a point of reference and it is very much a blink and you miss it location cuz it is quite literally in a house amongst a neighborhood in fact this house was originally built in 19 1910 ooh I've loved coming to Yellow Dogs since being a central Florida local the vibe is very laidback and a little eclectic they've got fun Decor featuring different musicians a huge patio
they do live music tons of craft beer on the menus it's just a fun spot that you want to kick back and hang with your friends and family and the food is of course fabulous this is an order at the counter establishment but I think the best part about entering the the house and the restaurant is this pause of Fame so pictures of the patron dogs gracing the wall all right let's take a look at the menu of course being a barbecue place they are most known for their pulled pork and they've got a variety
of pulled pork sandwiches with all different toppings on them you've got just a classic pulled pork sandwich the Florida Cracker which is one of the most popular ones my favorite is the what the Fig that's got goat cheese on top of it then you're moving into some of those signature sandwiches Alan mentioned earlier here you're going to see more of a variety of meat with things like turkey tuna salmon everything smoked in house and then turning over the back you've got a little more variety with things like wraps tacos nachos I can attest to how
good their pulled pork nachos are uh they've also got salads so if you want something a little bit lighter you can put some of that delicious meat on top of a salad and they do have a couple vegetarian options as well but don't fill up on just your Mains cuz they've got a case of sides and desserts that look amazing all right we have ordered and we got these drink tokens to take over the bartender since we already paid for our beer spoiler alert it's a signature we had to get it so we're going to
fill those up and then find somewhere to sit all right so our food haul has arrived I picked up the Buffalo Soldier that is my standard go-to order because it's delicious Molly has picked up the Florida Cracker which is a departure from her standard order but I'm excited to try it and then we've also picked up two sides we picked up the pasta salad and the potato salad and we have also picked up this brownie which I'm given to understand is a mint Oreo brownie oh my gosh had to have it and these are the
yellow dog pills now this is a beer made specifically for Yellow Dog Eats by the I and H Brewing Company located in downtown Orlando and you know we love an exclusive Brew first up the beer cheers oh dang it's just a nice light refreshing beer that's a good sipping beer that tastes like beer that's what my grandpa likes to say and he's right it's just a good slightly weedy Hiller yeah yeah it's a a lighter Stella more refreshing Stella it's very light the lightest of beers but I love that they have it just for here
so there we go and now I'm going to attempt to eat this gigantic sandwich best of luck all right and here is my sandwich the Florida Cracker as Alan said I normally get the what the Fig but this is probably their most popular sandwich and it looks amazing so it's their tender pulled pork topped with Tangy KLA guda cheese pean smoked bacon spicy pickles fried onions and their famous fish's gold barbecue sauce it's served on thick fun fluffy bread and it says this one will make you want to slap your grandma so bold sorry Grandma
rule number one of eating here it's not going to be pretty good I mean interesting take to wear a white shirt today it was a brave choice I might regret it she's a messy girl my grandma's going to get sauce all over her when I if I slap her with this hand it is so delicious first of all the bun is soft and doughy but it's doing a pretty good job holding up up to all of this the meat is so Smoky and tender it's Perfection and my favorite thing is the crispiness from the little
crispy onions on there as well as the bacon and then you've got a little bit of that Smoky guda and the barbecue sauce is awesome I love gold barbecue sauce cuz it's a little Tangier a little vineger than like classic barbecue sauce which sometimes is too sweet for my personal preference I mean it's just the best barbecue sandwich I've ever had it's it's so good here and I picked up the Buffalo Soldier this is tender smoked chicken shredded cheddar jack cheese and blue cheese crumbles fresh shredded lettuce Vine ripened tomato red onion crispy cucumber slices
orange contro Mayo jalapeno Ranch and homemade buffalo sauce all together on a Southwest Chipotle wrap and you see Molly stealing some of the pasta salad in the background here like I wouldn't notice I saw I saw what you were doing it is very good let's dive in they don't this literally I think this is probably as Molly takes the buffalo chicken wrap probably the best buffalo chicken wrap I've ever had the home buffalo sauce does have a zip to it but it's really well balanced by the orange cont May and you're like why that sounds
weird no the citrusy sweetness is exactly what you need to counteract the zestiness of the buffalo sauce the chicken is smoked beautifully the veg is fresh I'll see you later now we're going to dig into the sides they also have a fabulous tomato mozzarella but it has pesto on it so Allan can't eat it but it's really good this is the pasta salad with smoked chicken on it so it's like pasta some fresh vegetables looks like corn and this is their roasted potato salad older I get the more I love pasta salad this one is
creamy it is dreamy it's got that nice smoked chicken in there I love the freshness from the cucumber and the Tomato that's kind of adding a bright uh burst in there and breaking up the richness of like the creamy mayonnaise based pasta salad and this potato salad it's hearty thick the potatoes cooked beautifully they're light and fluffy but they're still maintaining their own structural Integrity you've got a good thyme flavor a little bit of Dill it is very clearly like a mustard more than Mayo base with fresh carrot cucumber and onion in there as well
listen yellow dog is so good I've never had anything bad shout out to Chef fish that's why it's called fish's barbecue sauce yeah CU he's the chef yeah I just put that together you made it and now you did too and if you like it you can buy it they have a lot of their sauces and things available for sale it's so good why have we not gotten these before M we were fools don't be a fool don't be like us we've destroyed two platters we've had to stop ourselves if I'm being honest good thing
these come into go containers they will not go to away they are going to be at home and probably eaten next couple hours is over but now I looked at that Bakery case and I was like oh we need something out of that Bakery case they had a blueberry lemon bar that looked amazing they had like a brownie sandwich that had Nutter butter but the the mint Oreo brownie it just called it calls me also they told us that all the desserts are made locally from a a sweet older lady that that lives nearby she
makes all their desserts been doing it for about 3 or 4 years they said so yay all right should we lady in the trampet I about I just tear off a piece oh yeah that's as fun that is a gooey brownie I'm happy we tore a feast ready cheers boom okay okay okay absolutely go fly a kite that's so good I'm not always a brownie girly cuz if a Brownie's done well it's amazing and if a Brownie's done bad it's not my Fai that's a brownie done well I mean yeah the mint Oreos on top
are everything brownies can be dry I think that's like the the cardinal sin of a brownie this is moist all the way through decadent so rich and then you've got the Oreo to come in there and add that little mint burst and crunch that offsets a lot of the texture that you're getting from the brownie which can be kind of monness it also very clearly is homemade I'm not always a huge dessert person cuz it tastes artificial or it tastes too sickly sweet and like this you can tell was homemade and it tastes like a
homemade brownie that your grandma made and it's awesome I have a question for you yeah yeah yeah when it comes to a brownie are you team middle or team edges I'm middle oh well I know it's controversial take I'm team edges I know that edge people are vocal they love the crispiness of the edge yeah it's like perfect texture there's just something to me about like a perfectly cooked middle of the brownie the brownie pan was here I'm going draw a diagram hopefully there's a graphic insert there's a there's a brownie pan it's a smaller
pan it's a 9 by9 we're cutting it into nine brownies you want the middle piece you want piece five I want piece five interesting I want a corner yeah more power to Max edges I I understand why I understand no desire for a textural break but there's just something to me about like a brownie that is just it has that give when you bite it into it it's kind of like a chocolate lava cake interior yeah that's too much yeah for me I love that like if I'm going to do it if you're going to
give me a brownie that's what I want you let us know do you want an edge a corner which is two edges The Edge where it's just one Edge or do you want the middle yeah no judgment anyway no brownies are delicious but now here's my next question yeah go on do you want nuts and brownies controversial some people say no nut brownies nuts don't belong together I say for the record marry them yeah together I think if you give me a brownie with pecans yeah I want some nuts that's that's an elite brownie cuz
I like the I am a texture person I want the crunch which is why I like the edges unless you're allergic then don't put nuts yeah in which case like I wouldn't put pine nuts and brownies that would be gross anyway well that was delicious so full so very full full of meats and happiness and we get to take home those salads for uh for later dining yes which makes me also very happy this is the definition of a local haunt I think that the fact that it is inside of an old house all the
meats are smoked on site like you mentioned just this feels like a place that is sort of ingrained within the local community and that makes it so special also very fun thing if you're wondering why it's called Yellow Dog Eats I was too looked it up and it's named that because the owner one had a golden retriever growing up AKA a yellow dog and then he said his parents were also very artistic and collected art and there was a an abstract painting of a yellow dog in his childhood home that he absolutely loved and so
he called it yellow dog but he was worried at first that people would think he was selling dog food that is funny also I'm imagining that the Yellow Dog logo is probably the abstract painting that you've seen probably in a lot of the shots that we've taken yeah I'm guessing that's a A variation of that childhood painting so so it's just fun to come support a local location that's got amazing food and as Allan said kind of a true local spot I know that I come here all the time this is actually the one of
the favorite spots to either order pick up from or go and eat with my uh D and D group so shout out to them and shout out to Yellow Dog and now we retire to the couch and uh but we'll see you at our next location oo yeah bye now all right and we have arrived at our second location tactical Brewing which is a craft brew that was opened by a Marine Corps veteran this is located in Baldwin Park which is close to downtown Orlando it's a very cute little area the area that this Brewery
specifically is located in it has a waterfront not too far away tons of cute little shops and restaurants so definitely a local spot it's about 35 minutes from Magic Kingdom 2025 from Universal so definitely a little bit further out but there's a lot of good stuff to check out here but for now we're going to go check out some local brew heck yeah I love that online their beers are described as strategically chaotic which fits our Vibe so it felt like a natural inclusion here one of my favorite things about tactical are the different names
and art that they will give to their beers that they release very frequently like this one they released for May the 4th it's it's untapped and it's got Admiral abar on it and then you've also got Beauty in the Venom right here which has a beautiful snake on it definitely going to be trying that one something giant which has a giant on the can but without a doubt the best can in the case right now is the crows Have Eyes the croing I will be drinking that because we are indecisive people by Nature both of
us ended up going with a flight so uh put your tray tables up in in full and upright positions we're going I have picked up the Gold Country now that is a West Coast sour IPA the chakaa which is a strawberry kiwi sour I'm really tapping into my Capri Sun love for this one I wanted to try it I was I was very much interested in that I've also picked up the fates reflection which is a sour with grilled pineapple I'm intrigued by that and last but certainly not least we have Beauty in the Venom
which is a hazy IPA with experimental hops I don't know what that means but it sounds cool and for mine I also grabbed the beauty in the Venom that experimental hazy IPA which I'm not going to lie to you I partly picked cuz the can has a pink and pink and a snake on it I also got the limel which is a sour with lime toasted coconut and brown sugar interesting this is the faux show the recommendation of the bartender it is a faux inspired go it's uh a collaboration with vietnams another local business and
number four I got the P he which I cannot pronounce p but it is a German wheat beer all right it is time for a rapid fire beer tasting let's go number one Beauty and the Venom plink Gold Country I know what experimental is now oh plants plants see what I mean yeah I do this is an interesting combo I never thought I'd enjoy a sour plus IPA but I I'm greatly enjoying this this tastes like an IPA that has a little bit of fruity yeah you should try it too fruity hazy IPA um if
you also love plants hemp special plants yeah it's tasty tasty but it's distinct flavor of plants this tastes like when I went to an oasis concert in high school what a very specific core memory that is once I went to a Dave Matthews concert it tastes like that number two what was my second one your second one is number 15 Allan was smarter than me here's here's the difference I knew I'd have to remember the names of these beers so I was like let's write down the names Molly wrote down the numbers but don't worry
I took a picture of the guide this is the Limelight so this is my sour chamoa strawberry kiwi this tastes like lemonade straight up is it sour it's more it's so sweet it's sour I'm happy I tried it here this literally tastes like lemonade you're not going to like that that does Lally taste like lemonade oh no I enjoy because I like strawberry kiwi but it is sweet this is a one unone for me this is 5% ABV this is dangerous because this quite literally tastes like lemonade or limeade and it's delicious and it's refreshing
and it's going down and my first inclination was like you should mix this with vodka and then I was like this is already alcohol don't do that it's growing on me I'm liking it more with every step all right next for me I have Fate's reflection this is a sour with pineapple I have the fa show the show f show f f show there you go yeah that's what for show F show oo oo wao oh I love that that's spicy I don't mean hot I mean like it has distinct spices that you would find
in Vietnamese cuisine it smells really good like an all spice cardamon o I like this one well it's so unique oh wow I've never had beer like this I got to get in there again some basil to it that's super unique I like that a lot super get it cuz fuz soup that's that's the pun did you mean to do that no you should say yes always take credit I definitely meant to do that and then last I'm going to have the thing that I already had which is Beauty and the Venom I'm going to
have the he which is the German heis boy is that green it's good though M this is just a classic heisen which is one of my favorite beers and when I started drinking like craft beer outside of just like you know Bud Light or whatever heis were the first ones that I truly enjoyed and was getting at any Brewery I went to cuz it's a wheat beer it's a German style wheat beer and it's got a little fruity flavor to it almost like banana tastes like bubblegum or bananas if you taste bubblegum or bananas that's
probably a half of us so if you are someone that is like intimidated by craft beer or doesn't know what to order at a Craft brewery and you like like lighter beers try this don't go all the way into like an IPA or or like a stout or something try a A heison or a wheat beer it's a good like starter craft beer I feel like or some of these fruity ones would be yeah I agree also I love the presence of sour on the menu and all the ipas that's right up my alley I
know I'm like them I'm so basic I like ipas listen these are all stellars some of them might not be something I'll order again but I'm happy I tried it because I know it's well executed it tastes good also they have a lot of really cool cans like I was showing you some of those are not on tap like unfortunately the shz creek themed one is only in can so I will be walking out with cans to try oh no how terrible I know but I love that they change their beers frequently like if you
follow them on social media they're always rolling out new things um new flavors bringing fan favorites back they do I like that they have like pop culture references in a lot of their beers but also most importantly love that it's a local spot to come hang grab some beers uh they do partner with local places for food they do trucks different food trucks different food they had a listing every day this month or most of the days this month also do a of events every week so they'll do like Trivia Live music they've got a
belly flop contest this weekend they do drag bingo so if you're looking for like a laid-back Vibe for for the grown-ups especially good spot there you go plus Al they got some like retro game systems in the back as well so um also there's really cute shops around here I was eyeing things while we were walking in which go wild all right after each having a flight and Molly picking up some crows can't wait to drink these later at home look at the can I'm obsessed with this can actually the cool cans is why I
first learned about this place cuz a friend told me about the Harry Potter beer they did one time they did a like butterbeer inspired beer so cool stuff very cool stuff great Vibe on the interior I love that they have retro games that are available to play yeah just a fun Brewery obviously a little bit further out than some other local breweries but you know just the first of many of this series hopefully so I hope so I hope you guys enjoy this with that though we are headed to our third and final location see
you there and we have arrived at our final location that is Hawkers Asian Street Fair this is the original location in downtown Orlando on North Mills Avenue but since they started in 2011 they have added a variety of locations not only here in Florida and Orlando but actually out of state as well all over the United States and they started with just the four Founders and their girlfriends now wives here at this location the four Founders wanted to bring Asian street food from a variety of countries all across Asia and bring popular Street Foods here
to the United States which is what this restaurant is based on so so you're going to see dishes from Japan China the Philippines Thailand Vietnam and a variety of different countries all right here and it's really fun cuz it's to of style so you can try a whole bunch when you come yeah and we plan to by the way yeah oh yeah for sure this location the original is about 30 minutes away from Walt Disney World about 1520 away from Universal Orlando or but they do have a location in the Dr Phillips area of Orlando
which same distance is from Walt Disney World um but only about 10 15 minutes from Universal also it should be noted Hawkers is very popular especially here in the Mills location and they do not take reservations it's a walkup weight list only it's also pretty loud inside so we're going to be recording this a little bit differently we'll be getting the footage doing a voiceover later so you're going to get all of our uh notes at a later date let's go ERS was founded by four gentlemen Caleb Harold Allen low Wayne Young and kho now
Caleb harell and Wayne Young originally met in school and co-founded a business together prior to starting Hawkers and now Caleb sits as the CEO Allan low is the brand chef and is responsible bringing many of the recipes that are on the menu those are family recipes that have been passed down throughout his family and uh he is the one who has made the incredible Curry dip that goes to the Roy Wayne Young himself was the tech guy who helped set up Hawker sort of technologically making them sound that way and kinho is one of the
co-founders and a wood shop extraordinaire as it says on their website and you get to see kin work throughout the restaurant itself because he and his Workshop Supply a lot of the furniture that you'll see throughout the restaurants taking a look at Hacker's menu it is divided into multiple different sections starting with dimsum bow buns rolls Meats including things like Street skewers and then some knot Meats for some other vegetarian style options like salad or grilled Cheto peppers and then you can find things like noodles rice curries and soups and as far as the drink
menu goes they have a number of beers offered as well as some wines and an entire selection of craft cocktails taking a look at those craft cocktails you'll see that a lot of them are going to be spins on a lot of the classic craft cocktails for example the five Spice oldfashioned is hawker's Twist on an oldfashioned and the Thai Basil Paloma is a Twist on a Paloma for my beverage I picked up the Jin Rickshaw this was Hendrick gin lime cucumber and bubble water this was incredibly crisp cool and refreshing not not very sweet
at all a very easy drinking beverage and I went for the Uzu Spritz which had appol Uzu prco and club soda I have found that hawker's beverages tend to stay a little bit on the sweet side however this one was light and refreshing tasted a lot like a classic aerol Spritz but I liked the Citrus burst from the Uzu and then our food began to arrive starting with my favorite thing on the menu the Roy Janai this is served with two Malaysian flatbreads and a side of their signature curry sauce and you can add extra
Roy if you need it oh my goodness this curry sauce is incredible chefo is a genius it's hard to describe how amazing this is but it is rich and creamy very spiced but not hot you're going to taste coriander and cumin and all spice and I honestly put this curry sauce on everything at Hawkers a must get and I tried the soup dumplings first this is classic xia long B filled with pork and Rich bone broth served with traditional black vinegar and fresh ginger this is just like a warm hug and in this dumpling you
just split it open a little bit allow that broth to spill out then I added some of the black vinegar and ginger and ate it all in one bite this I I it's hard for me to describe it just feels like I'm eating a dish that somebody's grandmother prepared for me Rich you can taste the flavorful pork it's spiced very well and then you have that black vinegar cutting through with the ginger added on top with a little zestiness it's perfect I also had to try the soul Hot Chicken bow this is 24-hour Brian chicken
thigh deep fried and sauteed in garlic Goa Jang topped with spicy housemade pickles this is just so delectable now it is spicy so if you are spice of verse then maybe avoid this but the chicken is fried perfectly very crispy on the exterior moist on the interior the bow itself was light and very fluffy a little sticky and the pickle added on just enough zest to cut through the richness of the dish Perfect 10 out of 10 also trying something new to us were the coconut shrimp that came with a curry dipping sauce and I'd
be lying if I said getting more of the curry dipping sauce wasn't my main motivation for ordering this these were some of the best coconut shrimp I've ever had you could tell they were clearly breaded in house slight sweetness from all of that abundance of coconut but the shrimp weren't fishy these were delightful but I do have to say I give the nod to the chicken bow as far as the proteins go and lastly for our Mains I guess I tried the Sichuan Dandan this is Sichuan style ground pork a top Taiwanese wheat noodles housemade
Sichuan chili oil and sesame sauce topped with seasonal greens frh fresh cucumber and peanuts this was actually as advertised pretty darn spicy so again if you're a spicie just know that when they say spicy they mean it here at Hawkers the noodles were cooked very well not overcooked and the pork itself was ground and distributed throughout with a little bit of fresh seasonal Greens on top that tasted a little bit like basil this was a very complete dish and perhaps one of the my favorite noodle dishes I've had from Hawkers and lastly one of the
sweets caught my eye obviously not the bag of donuts the banana spring rolls these were deep Fri Fri with spiced honey and Nutter butter crumbles served with vanilla ice cream fresh berries peanut butter and raspberry sauce clearly these had a lot going on but it all work together beautifully I liked the natural sweetness of the fruit paired with the crispy fried spring roll shell I liked the coolness of the vanilla ice cream cutting through that as well but my favorite thing were the nutter butter crumbles and the peanut butter sauce I don't know it tasted
like some kind of giant peanut butter jelly banana sandwich and it was delicious all right I'm leaving Hawkers like I normally Hawkers and that is uh having to unbutton my pants I don't know why I wore a tight dress today cuz I'm going to I'm going thank you but I am going to have to unzip it in the car because I'm so full Hawkers is delicious it's so good it's so worth every bite good that curry sauce that comes with the Roy is Chef Alan Lowe's secret recipe it's unbelievable I put it on everything and
everything is made better for it yeah I think that's my favorite of the things we shared today I have to agree this Hawkers in particular is in my opinion one of the areas that if you're going outside of sort of the touristy areas of Orlando you got to stop by the food is topnotch the vibe is incredible I also like that it probably is going to expose you to something maybe you haven't tried before because it's all for the most part top of style or a little bit smaller plates you can get some things you've
had and then also maybe try something new so there's food that I've never had like soup dumplings um that I tried for the first time at Hawkers well had had a lovely time exploring eats outside of the theme park bubble if you had fun following along definitely let us know down in the comments we have a lot of favorite places local eateries breweries dessert shops Etc that we'd love to share so let us know if you'd like to see more Down Below in the meantime friends be sure to like this video subscribe if you're new
