welcome to Campbell scientific training video on the device Configuration utility which is otherwise known as Dev config within this video we will be looking at where to download Dev config getting started with the software installing the USB drivers and connecting to a device we will also look at sending an OS to a Data Logger configuring a Data Logger and looking at Key configuration parameters finally we will look at other useful features within Dev config we are first going to look at where you can download Dev config from the camel scientific website at campbellsite.com from here
we will navigate to the dev config webpage you also need to be logged into your cambosci account from the product web page you have the option to download the software for free once you've downloaded the software you will need to run the executable file that you have downloaded once opened it should look something like this for this training video we will be using the cl1000x Data Logger which can be selected from the list on the left hand side or we can use the search bar at the top the 10 most recent devices you have connected
to will be shown in your favorites the first time you connect to a particular Data Logger type you may need to install USB drivers navigate to the device type and look for the install USB driver button click the button and follow the wizard prompts that are given now that we have the USB driver installed we connect to our Data Logger select a direct connection if you're connected directly to your Data Logger alternatively if you are connecting via an IP network and IP address select IP for now we will connect directly choose the relevant Communications Port
which should be identified as your Data Logger type if the drivers were installed correctly and click connect note for older data loggers which do not use a USB port and when you have a serial connection you will not see the Data Logger type as you see Dev config will search for a packbus address and attempt to connect to the Data Logger now we are connected let's look through the different settings as you can see there are various pages in Dev config each with its own subgroup of tabs the first tab Data Logger shows us the
various settings such as serial number OS version station name and packed with stress we can also find security settings on this tab we won't be going through all the settings but if you want to find out more information look through the help section or click assessing and read the information regarding the setting at the bottom of the screen from the logger control tab we can set the time of the datelogger and send a program the data monitor tab gives us a way to check the public table and any tables we have defined in the program
this is running on the Data Logger additionally this is where the status table can be accessed which gives us useful diagnostic information to name just a few the current active program the program start time any Watchdog errors internal lithium battery voltage program errors and skipped scans the data collection tab gives us a method to collect data from the Data Logger either by selecting all the data a specified date range the most recent interval or the most recent number of Records we also have the option to select the file format we want our data in file
control lets us send a program and change files that are stored on the Data Logger CPU a card drive or user drive if one is configured you also have the option to change the Run options of a program such as running a program now or running the program on PowerUp manage OS lets us update an OS on the Data Logger but we will look at this later on in the video the settings editor shows some of the settings in the deployment tab which also gives us some Advanced configuration settings the terminal tab allows us to
use a terminal mode of the Data Logger more on this a bit later now that we've had a look around let's make some changes to our Data Logger one of the main benefits to Dev config is the ability to load a new OS to the Data Logger when you are disconnected from your Data Logger you can send an OS to it via the send OS tab provided you have first downloaded it from the Campbell scientific website instructions are provided on this page on how to send the OS please note that by using this method you
will lose the configured settings data and program on the Data Logger alternatively you can upgrade the Data Logger OS via the manage OS tab when connected to your device this method will do a backup of the settings in program that will not back up your data it is always good practice to download your data and save your devices configuration before making any changes now we have looked at upgrading the OS let's look at making some configuration changes from the deployments and Data Logger tab we can change the station name and pack bus address to something
more suited to our application after making changes it is important to remember to click the apply button in the bottom left corner you will automatically be prompted to confirm that you want to apply these changes click yes to confirm a configuration overview will automatically be generated which can be saved to your PC it is best practice to save these files for future reference from the logo control tab you have the option to send a program to the Data Logger CPU let's take a look you also have the option to backup your Data Logger using the
backup option wizard this will save the configuration of your Data Logger as well as the files stored on the CPU card or user drives if you have files stored on them this can then be restored to a Data Logger using the restore feature note that your data will not be restored only the configuration program and any other files you select the terminal mode is the useful tool to check the serial Communications on the Data Logger from the terminal tab press the carriage return or Enter key until you see the prompt in this case we see
cr1000x to get a list of commands that we can run from the terminal type h followed by a carriage return or the enter key this will list out a menu system which has a range of commands we can use the SDI 12 instruction to configure SDI 12 sensors connected to the Data Logger note that if the program is using the channel the port cannot be used you can either stop the program or you can move the cable of the sensor to an unused SDI 12 port on the Data Logger the W command helps watch data
being transmitted on a Communications port and the P command allows you to talk through to a Serial sensor Dev config can also be used as a terminal emulator for digital sensors by selecting unknown as the device type confirm you have the correct com port and board rate connect to the device and check you can communicate with it note the settings for bitrate parity and stop bits are fixed to 8 none and one some of the useful features in Dev config are the multiple language options the offline mode and the serial Port test Dev config can
also be used to configure Cambo scientific sensors peripherals and other devices thank you for watching this combo scientific video for more informational support please visit campbellside.com forward slash support
