[Music] to be at kinder and see the world through the children's eyes is to really be reminded of how magical planet is and how obviously we need to do something to really catch up that my name is Jenny I work at Albert Park preschool and we're very proud to be Australia's first carbon-neutral kindergarten so to become the first carbon-neutral kindergarten in Australia we changed our policies changed our thinking and changed our behavior Oh lots of wind farms and composting can you find something changed our lighting to LED lighting installed some energy-efficient appliances installed some solar
panels and four solar batteries and then last year what was one of the most wonderful moments was disconnecting the gas service here when we decided that we wanted to send them to a school we wanted something that reflected the values that we see in today's society and also with values that we wanted them to grow up with just truly anything I mean everybody wants the kids to learn the basics of you know ABCs and all those sort of things and those they star really important but they also need to learn values and they need to
learn things that are going to set them up for you know a work the world in which they're going to live [Music] [Music] [Music] they say the most amazing things and someone is once asked me if children really do understand climate change and they really do so reading of the meters is something that we do every week here at the kinder and it was the important part of the carbon neutral certification process to have that data as well eight and that is data that the children clicked so we take out that board out and we
read the electricity and read the water meter as well so the rubbish bin we've been talking to all the children that we are reducing waste when we go and check the rubbish bin we make sure the public is less for than the recycling bit just making sure that we have a lot more recycling in that ways we'll try our best to not not make the parents here have been incredibly supportive of the endeavors around sustainability and environmental responsibility in fact we we really wouldn't have pursued it unless our community reflected yes so you see how
he's growing a new shell he's got to he's the children lives being outside being in a garden and stir what would happen if there wasn't a trade now look feeding the worms they're left going to put things in the compost food scraps they love looking out for mother nature my dad oh my gosh look at that big woman and we feel the really strong responsibility as an early childhood service to be able to allow children to maintain their love for nature and keep that as they grow on [Music] hi I'm Leigh sales thanks for watching
