I just bought 64GB of RAM. For my computer or, for the more intimate, my gaming PC. It might seem like overkill.
It definitely is. And do you know why? To run the one and only game I’m absolutely sure will push the limits of 64GB of RAM: Minecraft.
And there's only one way to really test the limits of this absurd amount of RAM: unning Minecraft with the render distance at maximum. Actually, not just the maximum, but with a mod that removes that limit. Let’s see how far my PC goes before it explodes.
Hopefully, it won’t! Not today, and not tomorrow either, please! But before we open Minecraft, we need to go to its folder and allocate 64GB to be used Here it is, set to 2GB.
Let's change it to 64. Save it. Let’s open it now.
It’s been a while since I’ve done this, huh? I’m here in Minecraft, and there’s a bee here. Let me press F3.
As you can see, there it is: 65GB of RAM. And it’s running at 90 FPS. Locked at 600-700 FPS, which is actually quite low.
But I guess that’s normal. I’m running on 2 chunks. Let’s see how far we can go.
I’ll lower some settings. Let’s reduce this thing on the screen I’m not sure what this intense circle is. TPS?
I have no idea. This frame time thing. .
. I don’t know either. Let’s start with the chunk count.
I’ll set it to 12. Now we can see quite a bit, like lava, some trees here, another tree over there. .
. Any animals around? Doesn’t look like it.
I’ll stay here and see how far my field of view expands. Let’s set the render distance to 32, which is the maximum in vanilla Minecraft. Look, now I’m starting to use 3GB.
Wait, that’s wrong. I’m using 17GB? That’s crazy!
Mountains are starting to show up. There’s one over there, but I still can’t see the plants and bamboo. Let’s go straight to 64!
What is this? What is happening? Oh my God, this isn’t normal!
Will I be able to see it now? Look, it’s starting to appear. Now I’m at 130 FPS.
I used to have 600 FPS. Now it’s down to 120, and the more the map loads, the lower the FPS drops. Cool, huh?
I can see a lot more now: a cave over there. . .
It’s just loading up! The map takes a while to fully load. It’s loading, though, about halfway there.
It’s huge. Look at that! Still loading.
I’m using 30GB now and running at 89 FPS. I’ll just wait here until the 64 chunks fully load. I’ll leave it idle and let it load.
Look at this place, man! What a massive map! I can see everything from here.
Can I see an island or a ship? I don’t think so. Let me increase my field of view to max it out.
Setting it to 150 because there’s a massive line on the screen. It’ll take a while to load everything again, though. Loading these chunks takes forever.
It’s really lagging now, down to 30 FPS with 30GB used. It’s still loading, but the map is huge and really varied. I don’t think my PC is going to survive.
It’s better if I look down. Now I’m back to 300 FPS. 250.
. . 30 FPS again.
. . How do I remove this stuff from the screen?
No idea. The sun is square. Let me set it to daytime because it’s better to see.
I’ll open Task Manager now. Minecraft is using 27GB of RAM. The CPU is blowing up.
The GPU is at half capacity. What a beautiful mess Now it’s finally using 20GB of RAM. That’s a lot of chunks!
My graphics are all in the red zone. Look at this! Nothing is green anymore.
The map isn’t loading properly. I think it’s still loading 66,000 chunks. I’ll wait here.
. . But it’s probably going to crash soon.
We’re down to 19 FPS, and I don’t think my PC will handle much more. Maybe half of it loaded? We’re at 78,000 chunks, but it’s so slow.
7 FPS. . .
okay, we’re stable. . .
for now. Looking down improves things, but the map isn’t fully loading. We’re at 83,000 chunks, but it’s so slow.
I’m using 58GB of RAM, almost maxed out! It hits 95%, but doesn’t crash thanks to virtual memory. I think that’s why it’s surviving.
The moment it hits 100%, it slows down again. It hits 95%, but doesn’t crash thanks to virtual memory. I think that’s why it’s surviving.
The moment it hits 100%, it slows down again. It crashed. I thought it would last a bit longer, but no.
. . Minecraft consumes so much RAM when loading chunks.
The more chunks, the more RAM it needs. I haven’t posted on this channel in a while, and I’m only saying this at the end of the video. That’s weird.
I should’ve said it at the beginning. Don’t expect much; I might only post again in 2025! When I upload next Twitter might be gone.
RIP Twitter.
