ladies and gentlemen welcome to an epic and unique Chess Championship here on the Gotham chess YouTube channel more specifically it is the chatbot Chess Championship of 2025 in 2024 we had the World Chess Championship won by Dees and then we had the rapid and Blitz chess championships in New York City but we all know that the real stars of the show are right here this whole idea was born from this video Chad GPT just solved chess and in that video Chad GPT played against stockfish and it was chaos and then I played against Chad GPT
then they rematched well may I present to you the chatbot Chess Championship with SNAP Ai and stockfish kicking off the action today followed by Gemini versus grock followed by Martin versus co-pilot and meta AI versus chant GPT the schedule is on the bottom right hand side if you are tuning in at any point during this week make sure to watch the video I'll put all these videos in a playlist if you're watching this in the future you got to catch up on the action like I said there will be a playlist I will call it
the chatbot Chess Championship and it is going to be absolute pandemonium in this tournament we have two Bots that play by the rules of Chess stockfish and Martin we also have six Bots that do whatever they want and they do it in different ways they're all programmed in different ways of bending the rules and recreating the rules and saying absolute gibberish nonsense I wanted to put this on for all of you here we go today we have stockfish versus snap AI with a twist ending that comes totally unexpected okay here we go we kick things
off Snapchat with the white pieces uh we will be editing the board as we go by the way this bar uh is um you know it's kind of determined by whose move it is so it's going to be jumping around left and right so snap opens the game with Pawn 2 E4 all right it opens with E4 and in the first game of action uh here in the 2025 chat B Chess Championship uh stockfish plays the French defense taking some inspiration from the World Chess Championship that just concluded between gukesh and ding snap nice and
easy pawn to D4 in the center of the board and stockfish plays D5 and we don't have to wait too long because things get really really squiggly and strange quite soon on the third move of the game the Snapchat AI plays C4 okay um C4 is not a good move uh it's not a good move because um you know now now black uh simply takes the pawn here and that's exactly what black does now it is White's move and black is better so stockfish wins a pawn early but what stockfish failed to realize is that
now Snapchat plays Knight takes E4 now you see it's difficult to be a bot it's difficult to be a bot that plays by the rules stockfish has to now adapt to the situation in front of it it is 3700 but is it 3700 when there are multiple dimensions of Chess so it plays Knight F6 the idea of Knight F6 is to offer a trade of knights Queen F6 bring the bishop out and quickly Castle now Snapchat goes back to playing normal moves Retreats the knight from the center of the board to the square that it
was supposed to be just skipped a step it took an Express train to E4 mind your business like seriously brush your hair anyway C5 the move here chosen by stockfish the idea of course being that you would like to trade the bishop but also you would like to potentially trade the queen of white and either remove the right to Castle or uh you know the Knight has to retreat out of the center of the board C5 and here snap you know snapbot plays D5 nice move advancing in the center now that Bishop is not going
to be able to get out White's next moves will include Knight F3 Bishop E2 probably castling and very easy play after D5 stockfish does not take it also develops its bishop and tries to play O tries to Castle the king as well but so far so good I mean the position is you know quite balanced I got to say for one rule bending bot and a 3700 bot we actually have a relatively peaceful position Knight F3 you cannot really argue with the stuff it's a good move uh stockfish here castling the king I have to
do it manually but it does Castle its king I'm stockfish following all the basic principles that you know we teach beginners and so on um yeah and uh position's quite nice you know it's a nice and comfortable position for black and here you know I think here snapbot the Snapchat AI was sort of inspired by modern-day Alpha zero stockfish Tendencies which always rely on flank Pawn attacks and when I asked Snapchat AI here to make a move it played the very powerful H4 which you know uh drops the evaluation down to a comfortable minus one
um h4s you know I I don't really know what it does you shouldn't you know have your shouldn't be attacking like this when the king is in the center which is why the second at saw H4 stockfish plays Pawn takes pawn it chops the pawn and it's ready to attack the King which is a very natural move when your opponent leaves a king in the center of the board like this trades generally benefit now we have C takes D5 and you know here stockfish plays Rook E8 check and so far Snapchat hasn't really done anything
too absurd uh but here you there are three ways uh just so you know beginners there are three ways to get out of a check right one is to take the piece that is attacking your king the other one is to move the king out of danger and the Third Way is to block the check right you can block like this which would be terrible because you would lose the Knight could also block like this which would be better because then you would castle and the bishop would be protected one thing beginners that you don't
know however is that you can also do this white can also play King F1 eating your own Bishop all right listen it's a necessity of life sometimes the bishop is in the way you got to eat him King takes F1 and now Snapchat cannot castle and is also down three points of material uh it just took its own Bishop no problem stockfish now proceeds Bishop to G4 very nice move in general a good idea to activate the bishop on the most prominent diagonal also you can always trade your up material so you're happy to make
a trade also on top of that this Pawn moved too far it can't go back anymore well it can but normally it can't uh and you know it can't attack the bishop now as if King takes F1 wasn't bad enough the move that Snapchat plays in this position is King F1 so Snapchat skips its turn it says no I'm good well the stockfish plays Knight D7 so stockfish just got two moves in a row and white also took its own Bishop I was like okay well this is going to be a short lived game but
no no no no no no no no no no no no no no see what you all fail to realize is that um you know Snapchat is playing Yu-Gi-Oh and so here it plays Bishop C4 monster reborning the bishop into the center of the board securing the center that Bishop actually went there you see what we don't understand is that Bishop had left the F1 Square before the king went there the king didn't take the bishop the bishop was on a different SpaceTime Continuum Bishop to C4 played the bishop has been summon now black is
still better but not really by all that much stockfish now reacting to the placement of the bishop and plays A6 immediately trying to advance with its Pawns in general stockfish will try to improve its position every single move here white should play A4 because that stops Black's main plan of playing B5 um but after A6 uh now uh Snapchat castles so um I you know I forgave it it's obviously just learning the rules uh and it it castles its king and and that's fair uh and also I didn't really want to you know punish it
too severely position is still quite balanced and that's why stockfish responds with this move B5 simultaneously gaining space and also forcing uh the bishop backwards now Bishop to B3 is the move played here and black is still comfortably better uh actually it's so good for black and it it mostly has to do with the fact that there's a lot of weaknesses in the position so after the bishop goes to B3 um we have Knight to E5 this is a very natural move you are you are pping on the pp which is uh putting pressure on
the pin piece and what you would like to do is open up this King oil up the King get the queen in so you know and and then it's going to be a Checkmate now uh Snapchat here plays a new move this is this must have been on the new chess patch because here I it it caught me off guard quite a bit here Snapchat with the white pieces plays D takes E5 laterally transferring the pawn like a NFL player you know throwing the ball side to side uh and basically saying nope I I could
just bulldoze you like yeah yeah rugby Style just yeah that's that's a problem stockfish did not anticipate uh the lateral uh slashing of its Knight and now is uh significantly worse significantly worse um because not only did you lose a knight you're also forked you're going to have to probably trade the queen and the Knight for the bishop and this is a very very bad position but stockfish has to do what it has to do right it just takes back now at this point what the snapbot should do is autopilot snap that snap that no
punt intended although full pun intended and white just has an extra Bishop which will you know then be developed yeah but but but the Snapchat bot here blunders right away it plays Queen E2 now that's not a good move for a few reasons but more most important is the fact that stockfish now immediately plays Bishop takes C3 and not only does it grab a knight it also is a discovered attack on the queen so that short-lived peace Advantage has vanished white is now much worse again because you cannot take the bishop well you can't but
but if you drink enough anything is possible so the queen now becomes a knight right so the queen becomes a knight it's it's it it fuses together it actually gets on a knight which is where the queen belongs and it it it it gallops to the C3 Square the problem here though is that a few moves later white tries this little thing again and it doesn't quite work out so you know stockfish Knight E4 nice move activating the Knight attacking the queen defending the queen now is not a knight it slides over great move getting
out of danger C4 here encroaching on the white position targeting the bishop and also well protected the bishop probably has to go backwards and then there are going to be discovered attacks on this queen like Knight G3 for example attacking The Rook or or the snapbot here tries the same nonsense and plays this move and now stockfish will be punishing this by taking the queen and that is exactly what happened so Snapchat tried the same kind of like little goofy thing and and stockfish was like M you that you tried it last time but now
you're going to be losing the queen now at this point Snapchat told me Rook takes C4 and you know that makes sense obviously uh but I had to ask which Rook I said is The Rook on A1 or The Rook on F1 capturing the pawn on C4 and it said The Rook on A1 it said Rook A1 is going to take the pawn on C4 right no problem we honor that the customer is always correct you guys don't get it you guys don't get it just don't understand you don't this is not a CH like
listen right now we got a lot of the debate going on in the Chess World like Freestyle chess Magnus advocating for no openings I prefer this type of Chess I prefer whatever the hell this is okay because this is great I love I mean you just this is like playing chess with your three-year-old see the the the cool thing is some of you watching this right now are three years old hopefully supervised some of you in the comment section are three years old some of you have threeyear olds and you know like they The Rook
teleports you start arguing they're going to cry they win all right so Rook takes C4 on the board and stockfish here very methodical how does black win this position simple trade trade down Bishop takes F3 very nice move white responds Pawn takes of course and attacking this now look at this nice move Knight D2 defended by uh the the queen attacking all sorts of pieces here here actually something very fascinating happens uh stock uh Snapchat plays Rook F4 and you would think Knight takes right right no the top computer move here is actually to take
the bishop that's kind of fascinating because I guess the bishop is more actively involved in the game so yeah stockfish actually evaluated this as like minus what you know so this move is uh this move is played what's kind of nuts is I guess this position after like Rook D1 for example is not completely hopeless uh but it's bad it it's it's pretty bad and you know Knight takes B3 is played and um yeah it's just over now uh at this point we get uh we get this C takes B3 so the C2 Pawn taking
the you don't get it sh you just don't understand all right you don't understand so C takes B3 is the move played and now rook 2c8 and at this point as we can see stockfish despite adhering unfortunately to the rules of the game is going to win I mean stockfish is simply up a queen it's now going to get into the position it's going to be a short-lived experiment especially after after this move which is Rook D1 and and and the snapbot here said Rook D1 developing a rook stockfish doesn't mess around Queen takes D1
it is now M7 and as I always say when the evaluation is a BMW model it's uh it's a bad sign King to G2 Rook C1 it's over I mean you are just getting M It Here There Is No Escape and stockfish is going to be the first winner of the 2025 chatbot Chess Championship or is it you really thought it wasn't just GNA pot of greed the situation for those of you that don't know it's a very famous Yu-Gi-Oh meme you should you know I summoned pot of greed guys should check it out Bishop
takes C1 okay stockfish is yeah fine Queen takes C1 no problem stockfish still up a queen attacking everything just not going to get back rank checkmated Queen takes C1 on the board and here Snapchat plays King to G2 so it's Black's move and stockfish goes here that's it White's got absolutely no pieces left so no more buffoonery none of the pieces can move uh Queen takes F4 is played and the game will be ending quite soon except now Snapchat says King takes F4 well now we have a problem okay because just a few moves ago
there was a queen and a rook there stock fish's pieces were safe now the you know gargantuan Titan that is Snapchat is just snapping the pieces off the board one by one the last remaining piece this is the only piece stockfish has you see this is like the Yu-Gi-Oh with when they were dueling in Atlantis and darts and they all had like the the the what was the thing what what the thing you were the Dual disc with with 10 summoning card like it didn't make any sense okay so stockfish playing by the rules only
has four pawns remaining now we're actually in a very strange situation because stockfish is at risk of getting knocked out and may I remind you of of the bracket right just really quickly uh if stockfish versus Chad GPT is like the Magnus versus Hikaru of what we want I mean we want Chad gbt to win we want it to win again and we want it to go and play against stockfish this is not looking particularly good I was I was just going to end the entire competition there um and after King takes F4 Rook E2
obviously still complet completely winning I mean it's just a rook I mean you're you're completely going to win the game H rookie to now Snapchat starts making it easier because it starts eating its own pawns it starts and the reason why this thinks it's better is because there's King takes E2 but it's Black's move and after King takes F3 Rook takes B2 H it's just over obviously white uh White's just going to lose but now despite having just played King takes up3 on the previous move I'm not even joking in this position Snapchat said King
B2 oh my goodness it's game on it's a four versus four end game it's a draw the black king probably needs to get over here these pawns are threatening to promote and there is a majority here so probably you're going to try to break through on this side of the board maybe you're going to try I mean this isn't this is unbelievable it's a pawn end game in stock fish's first match this is a this is a group stage World Cup soccer football game this isn't supposed to go like this F6 F6 now here Snapchat
tried to make another illegal move and I told it you can't do that I think stockfish here tried to play G6 and I was like you don't have a g Pawn do something else and it said okay your move okay so stockfish went H5 because stockfish here is trying to go here take promote the pawn and and by the way it it's very close like this is the square so now the only way white can save this game is by running over King here G5 King here takes King here and you make it into the
square and it's a draw because these pawns are going to hold the position so it's still a draw but what what's stockfish did not anticipate is that after putting the King on B2 the king takes a private jet to the G2 square and here Snapchat plays King G2 and now Snapchat is winning this is probably a winning end game now with white to move because you simply start advancing but it's black to move black plays G5 creating some counterplay and the position is still equal because the second you start pushing the king comes here these
pawns hold this position the king holds that G5 King up to the G3 Square King to F7 stockfish desperately trying to defend itself and here King H3 King E6 and now white is losing so white is losing the king and bond endgame o why is white losing the king and pawn end game well the king is now too active you needed to push these pawns far enough that they were a threat but you never did that and what's going to end up happening is that if you just move back and forth then black is going
to advance on you like Black's going to advance advance advance push the pawns and ultimately go over here eat those pawns before you can do anything else I mean it's very very subtle very subtle how to win this but here's something interesting happens which is what the chat Championship is all about in this position Snapchat kept trying to insist on playing King to H3 and I was like Snapchat you can't do that you already played King H3 and it was like no I want to play King H3 and I was like you se you can't
do that so it told me sorry I cannot engage in such conversation let's keep our conversation respectful I mean I'm sorry I'm not feeding and you're not Magnus okay so let's not do that all right let's not go there I don't care if you're wearing jeans slacks a speedo we're not doing this and I tried to be was I was like I haven't even said anything this you just can't play King H3 your King's already on the H3 Square so then it's trying to go to G4 and I was like you can't do that you
would hang your king which will be legal in future games but you know I was trying to guide it like hey you got to go somewhere else like you got to you got Kings and pawns you got to do something you can't go there well this is what ended up happening um so at this point it said oops my bad let's go with King G4 instead I said you can't go King G4 it said sorry I cannot engage in such conversation let's keep our conversation respectful I'm just excuse me I'm not I'm just telling you
that you can't do that all right so I so I said if you argue with me again you forfeit this chess match I mean I'm sorry we need to make progress in the competition you cannot I'm just telling you you can't make these two moves you can do anything else so it said sorry I cannot engage in such conversation let's keep our conversation respectful I I I'm not disrespecting you at all all right um and then I said you are hereby forfeited from this chess match because you cannot stop arguing with me and you're not
moving and you know the AI proceeded to say sorry I cannot [Laughter] so the first match of the 2025 chatbot Chess Championship is determined as an adjudication forfeit win for the stockfish computer Okay now what's funny is that if this position really were to keep going white would have gone King G3 King D5 this King has to stay here and now these Pawns are too slow King C4 A3 King B3 what had to happen by the way this is very instructive stuff what had to happen back here is that before you played uh you you
know you did this and it was white white to move here you needed to play B4 King E6 A4 you needed to push those pawns faster because what that would have done is it would have led to this position B5 ab ab King C5 F4 and that is the important point so now if these pawns stay you actually promote and if the pawn takes both pawns are traded and it's to draw but what ended up happening in the game is that because the snapbot just moved around aimlessly the black king got too active and by
getting too active you're now too close to those pawns there's not enough time to push them right like this because you just get here and now here take take take here here F4 looks like it works but it doesn't because the king is not on G3 and you never and now if you play here I play King C4 F4 G4 F5 King D5 subtle very very subtle but none of that even happens because on the first game of the first move of this end game Snapchat throws a tantrum only tries to move to these two
squares and this reminds me of you know being a chess coach back in the day this is how it would go your students would just throw Tantrums folks that means that stockfish is moving on to the semi-final the first semi-final will be on January 12th and it awaits the winner of Gemini versus grock Martin and co-pilot after that and meta AI versus uh Chad GPT welcome to this uh epic event uh we don't have much going on in the Chess World right now by the way I am playing a tournament Jan uh June uh January
