[Music] yeah I'm Sten Michael I'm director for production marketing uh Ministry of livestock and Fisheries uh in Tanzania and I'm here in South Africa to look on experience of the breed Improvement in South Africa and this Farm where where I am here is specializing in in Brahman breed and bman breed is type of breed which I heard of that they have good quality and they are Big Frame animals and also they can adopt a harsh environment and they have have been adopted in many countries in within Africa and other continent in the in the world
so I think it's high time now to look on how we can adopt those animals uh in Tanzania we have Liv talk master plan we which we devel developed and we have three key main issues which you need to improve in order to to improve the productivity the first one Disease Control the second one is improve feed and water and the third one is breed Improvement and in breed Improvement we can use the artificial examination uh we can use the bull centers and we can also you sell the Ina EA so when you talk of
the bull centers Improvement in most of the breed which you can easily get in Tanzania is Boran so we think getting other type of breed which can also uh give high quality animals in terms of of of meat in terms of weight gain is important to address the production consumption gap which we see it's important to improve the breed in Tanzania there is several producers organizations based on the speech and product we have in terms of poultry we have associations for for example diary we have even the meat and one of the major uh we
have the Tanzania ketto commercial Society in Tanzania which deals with the special for the meat and for the diary definitely we have the Tanzania Tampa and tpra tpra is asso with the production of diary animals and Tampa is the association deal with the processors for diary animals so we have the strong associations which I think they key entry point in order to improve the sector Tanzania we are now try when we are piloting the we have we have piloted the the the tracability system H we have the regulations in 2010 which is Tanzania life talk
information tracability systems and we we branded the animals at the first phase uh so it was not went very well so we change the the approach and in 2021 22 we use the electronic ear tags and we piloted it but there are some challenges we faced now we are improving the system and we expect later we'll use that systems for us able to trace back the the the animals for domestic and international trade because when you want to export also it's important to have those information Tanzania left talk sector is a key and in Tanzania
is Agro agrarian economy it means more than 65% uh people engaging in agriculture and life talking being part of them and 33% in out of 65% they are doing both livestock and and crop so you can see in order to eradicate the poverty definitely you have to engage the majority where they have engaged so the life talk being one of the key important factor we need also to promote the revenue from the farmer and how do we promote by increasing productivity per animal production so by addressing the issue of breeding addressing the disase control and
water and feed those are very key however we need to have other Supportive Services like doing the research we do have the training of the of the farmers we have to improve the extension we have to do the research so we have to improve the value chain value addition Marketing Systems and also to address challenges they doing business envir business environment through the government is key in order to reduce and promote the the trade and and and and Improvement the the export of of of of our product thank you so much for Tanzania ketto commercial

it is one of the animals which can adapt our Ash environment like Boran and other [Music] animals
