[Music] misinformation is a hot topic and according to the associated press two in ten americans worry they've actually spread misinformation themselves while six in ten americans believe a friend or family member is actively spreading misinformation dr robin fenn is on the board for the sound foundation for public health in snohomish county and she chairs the public health department at bastyr university in kenmore good morning dr fenn thanks for being with us good morning farah it's great to be here thank you well dr up and fenn's going to go through a few topics with us robin
you know from covet 19 to homelessness politics you know what's happening on the world stage we're seeing a lot of confusing information from a public health perspective how big of a problem is misinformation right now so the world health organization recently came out and said we are in the middle of what they call an infodemic and what that means is there's just an over abundance of information and because of this it's making it really really difficult for people to find information that's reliable and trustworthy and find that information when they need it as in in
terms of how much of a problem is it it's causing problems in people's relationships at work with family with friends it's leaving many people feeling confused and some people are making harmful decisions based on wrong information that are ultimately impacting their health and with those awkward conversations rifts in relationships and stress you mentioned how do we handle heated conversations so part of it in handling heated conversations is what we can do is making sure that when we're connecting with people people who are important to us reaching out to listen not to persuade not to argue
not to convince somebody to come around to our way of thinking but really just trying to understand where is the other person coming from um people are making the best decisions that they know how to make given the information that they have and so just finding that center space where we do have agreement um and coming to that that space together a lot of communication coming full circle there dr robin fenn thanks so much for joining us
