hi can you explain uh who you are and what you do for a living yeah my name is warren howe um and i work for an advertising agency i set up advertising campaigns for different companies on social media platforms it's like facebook linkedin youtube twitter uh those kind of things and tell companies how to target their ads and set up the ads in the platform and upload the ads and run them and tell them how they're doing cool and how did you get into that um after i graduated college i didn't know what i wanted
to do and i liked the idea of social media and i came upon internet marketing and i thought it was a kind of interesting and unique thing to explore it caught my attention for whatever reason at the same time i was also a poli-sci major graduate and i had also another internship in that um but the uh advertising kind of uh struck a chord with me and i decided to pursue that and one the internship led to a full-time job and uh yeah i haven't looked back there uh what sort of uh companies do you
advertise for um a lot of different ones um i do ads for like ross dress for less their stores i do sierra nevada brewing their beer and also some like tech companies where you're trying to advertise to other people that work in business as well what is the most challenging thing about your job um i would say if i'm being honest probably the the clients can be difficult um and it can be stressful at times when we need to hit deadlines or if there are expectations that are higher than what we want to deliver so
there can be pressure in getting things done but overall i like the people that i work with um and yeah mixed enjoyable and it's a fun job in general uh what did you decide to go to college in so i studied political science and sociology which i just thought were like interesting uh my favorite subjects basically i liked learning about the world and the past and um i yeah i just kind of followed that um i wasn't sure how those would apply to jobs in the future but now looking back on it i can see
that they kind of allowed me to be think critically and logically which is basically the nuts and bolts of my job is just being pretty uh like rational and it's all pretty common sense so those things were helpful how did you decide to go to college on the east coast um i didn't say that actually but uh somehow you seem to know that [Laughter] i uh decide i would agree i grew up in san diego like a lot of you guys and i wanted to get out and try something different um san diego wasn't as
cool as it is now uh so san diego is pretty cool but if you do feel like you i don't have been there all your life and you want to get out and try something new um i definitely recommend it and uh but at the same time san diego's great too so if you also really like san diego um don't be afraid to stay either what do you like about your company has been work from home since before covid started what do you think about having a job that's remote versus being in the office yeah
i think it depends on your personality and how you work best so if you feel like you need accountability from people like people around like maybe working on teams allows you to kind of get the best out of you and in your work then i think maybe working in office might be better as an example whereas i tend to find offices a little more distracting and uh having to interact with people when i just want to get my work done uh but i don't know i think they're pros and cons but yeah i think that
brings up a good point that you want to know yourself and what you like and be honest about that and let that kind of guide your job and your professional life and what do you give me more advice for seniors thinking about college and their careers yeah i think definitely the know yourself uh the other one i was thinking was that don't be intimidated by job descriptions and things that are out there because um a lot of it is bs um then they're trying to make themselves look good um and it may turn out that
you're actually really well qualified for a job um so yeah you never know um i definitely thought that i didn't get my first job that oh there's no way that i ever got it but i did great thanks
