What if the biggest problem in our relationships isn't communication, [music] compatibility, or personality? What if the real issue is that we've forgotten what love actually is? Everywhere we look, people talk about love.
Love songs, love movies, love advice, relationship gurus. But despite all this talk about love, relationships still fall apart. Families break, friendships dissolve, [music] marriages struggle.
Why? Because what the world calls love is often something completely different [music] from what the Bible calls love. In 1 Corinthians 13, the Apostle Paul gives what may [music] be the most powerful and practical description of love ever written.
But this chapter is often misunderstood. Many people treat it like poetic wedding material. But [music] in reality, it was written to correct a broken church filled with conflict, pride, and division.
The church in Corinth had spiritual gifts, knowledge, and influence. But they lacked something far more important: love. So [music] Paul wrote a chapter that dismantles fake love and rebuilds it from the ground up.
Today we're going to break down 1 Corinthians 13 step by step and turn it into [music] something incredibly practical for everyday life. Because if we truly understand this chapter, it might [music] completely change the way we treat people. Number one, love is more important than talent, [music] knowledge, or spiritual gifts.
Paul begins with a shocking statement. 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 says, "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy [music] gong or a clanging symbol. If I have prophetic powers and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, but have not love, I am nothing.
" [music] Think about that. You could speak beautifully, understand deep theology, be incredibly intelligent, [music] have powerful spiritual gifts, but without love, Paul says it means nothing, [music] not less. Nothing.
That's uncomfortable because we live in a world that celebrates talent and ability. Someone can preach amazing sermons, [music] lead worship powerfully, teach the Bible brilliantly, yet still fail in the most important area. Jesus emphasized [music] this same truth in John 13:35.
He said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another. " Notice what he didn't say. He didn't say people would recognize his followers by knowledge, church attendance, spiritual gifts.
The defining mark of a Christian is [music] love. Imagine two people. One knows every Bible verse, but treats others harshly.
The other doesn't know as much theology, but consistently shows [music] kindness, patience, and compassion. Which one reflects Christ more clearly? Paul's answer [music] is obvious.
Love is not an optional bonus in Christianity. It is the core [music] evidence that Christ is truly transforming us. Number two, love is not a feeling.
It's a choice you practice daily. [music] Now, Paul describes what love actually looks like. 1 Corinthians 13:45 says, "Love is patient and kind.
Love does not envy [music] or boast. It is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way.
" Notice something important. Paul doesn't describe love as an emotion. He describes [music] actions and attitudes.
Love is patience, kindness, humility, selflessness. That means love is something you choose even when you don't feel like it. Think about patience.
Anyone can be patient when [music] life is easy. But real patience shows up when someone interrupts your plans, a co-orker annoys you, a family member hurts you. Love chooses patience anyway, or consider kindness.
[music] Kindness and just politeness. Biblical kindness means actively seeking someone else's good. Jesus modeled this constantly.
In Luke 6:278, he said, "Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you.
" That's [music] radical because natural human instinct says, "Be kind to people who treat you well. " But Jesus says love goes further. Love chooses goodness even when it's undeserved.
And that's [music] exactly what God did for us. Romans 5:8 says, "God shows his love for us in that [music] while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. " God didn't wait until we deserved love.
He chose love first. That means every time we choose patience, kindness, or humility, we are reflecting the heart of God. Number three, [music] love refuses to keep score.
One of the most practical lines in the entire chapter appears in 1 Corinthians 13:5. Love keeps no record of wrongs. This phrase [music] describes something we often do without realizing it.
We keep mental scorecards. We remember that [music] hurtful comment from 3 years ago, that betrayal from a friend, that mistake a spouse made long ago, and sometimes we bring it back [music] up during arguments. But Paul says real love does not keep a running list of offenses.
Why? Because love understands [music] forgiveness. Colossians gives a powerful command.
Colossians 3:13 says, "Bear with each other and forgive one another. Forgive [music] as the Lord forgave you. " Think about that.
God doesn't forgive us while secretly keeping a hidden file of our sins. Psalm 103:12 says, "As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions [music] from us. " God chooses not to hold forgiven sins over our heads.
And Paul says, "Love does the same. " This doesn't mean pretending wrongdoing never happened, [music] but it means refusing to weaponize the past. Imagine how many relationships would change if [music] people stopped reopening old wounds.
Love doesn't deny pain, but it refuses [music] to nurture resentment. It chooses forgiveness. If this message is helping you see love differently, take a [music] moment to engage with the channel.
If this blessed you, like the video, comment, "Lord, teach me to love like this," and share [music] this with someone who needs encouragement today. And if you want more Bible-based teaching that makes scripture practical, subscribe to Bible Fix. [music] Now, let's continue.
Number four, love celebrates truth, not just feelings. Another line in this chapter [music] is incredibly important in our modern culture. 1 Corinthians 13:6 says, "Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
" Today, many people define love as total [music] approval. But the Bible defines love differently. Love celebrates truth, [music] not just comfort.
Imagine a doctor who discovers a dangerous disease but refuses to say anything because he doesn't want to upset the patient. [music] Is that loving? Of course not.
Silence in the face of danger is not kindness. [music] It's neglect. Real love cares enough to protect people from harm.
The Bible often connects love with truth. Ephesians 4:15 says, "Speak the truth in love. " Notice the balance.
Truth without love becomes harsh. Love without truth becomes empty. Biblical love holds both together.
[music] Jesus demonstrated this perfectly in John 8. When a woman caught in adultery was brought before him, Jesus did two things. [music] First, he protected her from condemnation.
Then he told her, "Go, and from now on, sin no more. " John 8:11. Compassion and truth, grace and [music] correction.
That is biblical love. Not silence, not cruelty, but truth spoken with a heart that wants restoration. [music] Number five, love is built for the long run.
Paul finishes the description of love with a powerful statement. 1 Corinthians 13:7 says, "Love bears all things, [music] believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. This is love with staying power.
" In other words, real love is not fragile. It is resilient. [music] Let's break down what Paul means.
Love bears all things. This means [music] love protects and covers rather than exposing or humiliating others. Proverbs reflects this same idea.
Proverbs 10:12 says, "Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers all offenses. " Love doesn't rush to embarrass people publicly. It seeks restoration.
Love believes all things. This doesn't mean blind trust. It means love chooses to [music] believe the best rather than assuming the worst.
When someone makes a mistake, love asks, "Is there another explanation? " [music] instead of jumping to negative conclusions. Love hopes all things.
Love refuses to give up on people. Even when growth is slow, even [music] when change takes time, God shows this kind of hope toward us. Philippians 1:6 [music] says, "He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.
" God does not abandon his work in us and love mirrors that patience. Love endures all things. This is perseverance.
Real love [music] stays committed even when relationships become difficult. Not every problem should be tolerated forever, but love refuses to quit at the first sign of inconvenience. This [music] endurance reflects God's covenant love.
Lamentations 3:22-23 says, "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never come to an end. [music] God's love is not temporary.
It is faithful. " And Paul says that kind of love is what Christians should practice with one another. When we step back [music] and look at 1 Corinthians 13, we discover something remarkable.
Love is not a romantic feeling, a personality trait, a moment of emotional warmth. [music] Love is a way of living. According to scripture, love is patient when people are difficult, kind when others are undeserving, humble instead of prideful, [music] forgiving instead of resentful, truthful instead of deceptive, hopeful instead of cynical, enduring [music] instead of quitting.
And the reason this matters so much is because love reflects the very character of God. 1 John 4:8 says, [music] "Whoever does not love does not know God because God is love. " When we practice the love described in 1 Corinthians [music] 13, we are not just improving our relationships.
We are revealing the heart of God to the [music] world. And in a world filled with anger, division, and selfishness, that kind of love is powerful. [music] If this message encouraged you and helped you understand biblical love more clearly, [music] like the video, comment, "Lord, help me love like this," and share this with someone who needs encouragement today.
