These are the scariest Mario myths ever found. Ranging from a glitched mirror where your reflection keeps on moving even after you stop to an evil Cappy clone buried deep underground. And we're starting with one of the most mysterious myths out there, the dark shadow.
There have been tons of reports of this strange shadow appearing in the Sand Kingdom. If you see it in your game, you should turn your switch off immediately because some players think there's something [music] invisible standing there, but the game just isn't showing it. With some people even claiming the moment you see what it actually is, the shadow stops being a shadow and starts acting like a virus, quickly corrupting the entire game.
Although, all these posts seem to get taken down by Nintendo, almost like they're trying to hide something. But luckily, over the last few months, I've been collecting as much evidence for this myth as possible, screenshotting every single Reddit post and downloading every single video. Now, today I want to test out whether this shadow is real and maybe see what's hiding there.
So, I've lined myself up exactly with one of the screenshots, but I don't see the shadow. Like, it should be right here, but I think that's cuz I'm not on a corrupted save file. You see, all the evidence mentions the shadow only appears when your save file has been corrupted.
and renamed to 184. exe. And I found this post talking about how to set up this corrupted save file.
All you have to do is take out your game card whilst the game is saving. So, let's test that out. I'm recording with my phone as well, so you can see me take out my game card out my Switch.
All we got to do to make the game save is touch the Odyssey flags checkpoint and that should trigger it. Yeah, you see in the bottom corner the game saving. So, if I do it again and then get the game card out like that.
There we go. We triggered a crash cuz the game card was removed. So, if I put my game card back in and boot back up, this should have triggered the corrupted save file and make the shadow spawn.
All right, moment of truth. When I check my save file, is it going to say 184. exe?
Load. Yeah, it does. Literally, all of them have been renamed.
What? Okay. All right.
Let's go back into the sand kingdom. Oh my goodness. Has anything changed here?
No. I feel a bit spooked out after seeing that. But okay.
Let's make my way back over to where this supposedly shadow is. See if it's there. So, it should just be after this big bushy area.
Wait, I think that's it. I think that's it. Yeah, it is.
Look at this. What is there something like casting it in the sky? I don't see anything.
Oh, what? There's like a there's a hit box there. I can jump on it as well.
I can't capture it, but when you see that when I throw Cappy at it, it shadow spins. So, I think there's something there. There's actually quite a few theories about what this shadow is.
Some people think it's tied to a file called brother. SCS that's unused in the code. They think because of the name is the leftover third Mario brother to go along with Mario and Luigi.
There's no way to check cuz the files completely encrypted and can't be opened. But I have no clue what this could be. Wait a sec.
I might have just had a genius idea. You know these stone moi guys? When you capture them and put your shades down, it reveals stuff that you can't normally see.
You see like all these invisible platforms get revealed. So maybe it will reveal what's casting the shadow. It's worth a try.
Wait. Oh no. Just had a thought.
These guys can't jump. So I might be trapped here. No.
Let me up. Let me up. Oh my gosh.
Wait. Do you see that line that appears? Is that normally there?
There's like a line. I'm going to go I'm going to walk over to it. See, I think that's where the shadow is.
Yeah, that line appears almost exactly where the shadow is. I might be right. This guy might be able to see exactly what it is.
I'm going to try that again. Yeah, that lines up perfectly. Okay, but how am I going to get a moai over to it?
Cuz this definitely lines up. Can I? My controller vibrates so much.
What? Wait, what? I can push against it.
I can push it. I might be able to push this over to the moi. Yeah, look at that.
Whatever this here has got to be heavy cuz I'm pushing it so slowly. Bro, this is going to take absolutely forever to push it all the way to the moi. But I think I've got a solution.
I'm going to tape down my controller and just leave it going. There we go. I'm completely handsree.
And whilst this is pushing, I'm going to test out another quick myth on my other Switch. And I'll come back if anything strange happens here. The Cappy clone.
Apparently, there's a secret Cappy clone hidden under the ground in the Cascade Kingdom. Or at least according to this YouTube short made by Nintendime. So, let's give it a watch and see what he says.
>> Did you know that Cappy has a secret clone in Mario Odyssey? After collecting the first power moon in Cascade Kingdom, if you do a glitch to go out of bounds, >> that glitch is pretty hard. >> You'll find a mysterious looking Cappy clone under the water.
It doesn't move and it seems to have three eyes that are closed for some reason. >> He's got three eyes. Oh, that sounds like he's undead and buried.
>> But the most mysterious part is that if you go up to it, this happens. [music] >> Wait, what's going to happen? It It kills him.
>> The Cappy ghost kills Mario. And if you [music] go back to that spot after dying, the clone is gone and all you see is Mario's coin remains. >> That's crazy.
No. No way that's real. I feel like he's just made that up for the show.
But let's test it out to see whether this guy's a liar or not. Okay, so I'm here in the Cascade Kingdom on a brand new save file cuz we've got to collect that first moon. You see this one?
Cuz somehow this one triggers the Cappy clone. Actually, first, there's something I want to test out. I've got the free cam model on right now.
So, I should be able to go under the ground and see whether it's there. I try to line it up exactly where it is in the video. Cuz in the video, he showed the Cappy clone being about here, I think.
But I don't see anything yet. So maybe it only spawns in once you collect this first power moon. Yo, what what's wrong with that moon?
There's like two of them. I don't think it's meant to be like that. I don't know what's happened to my game here.
It seems to collect it like normal, though. Okay, Cappy's right there. He's talking to me.
It's gone back on my head. So, this is the normal Cappy, but according to this YouTube short, there should be one under the ground as well. Yo, we yo yo, do you see that?
He's got his eyes closed in the short as well. So, the short wasn't just like fake clickbait. Okay.
Okay. I'm going to have to I'm going to have to clip into this wall cuz there's like a glitch here where you can get out of bounds. Let's see if I can do it like in the short.
It's quite a tricky glitch. I hope it hasn't disappeared cuz I'm taking too long. Let me check.
Yeah. Yeah. It's still there.
It's still there. Oh, yes. Yes.
Yes. Yes. I've done it.
I've done it. I've done it. That took far too many attempts.
Did I just fall down? >> Oh my gosh. I just spent ages trying to get it and I died instantly.
>> A few moments later. >> There we go. There we go.
No, don't die this time. Okay. Okay.
Okay. Let's go. I've made it in.
I'm in the water underneath the ground. This is like a pretty cool clip that you can perform. But if you look here, there's that Cappy.
And apparently if I touch it, it kills me. But wait, there's a massive invisible wall like blocking me from getting to him. Maybe I could go underneath and like around the invisible platform.
See if that works. Oh, wait. There's another invisible platform here.
Wait, never mind. I think I went underneath it. Then we could wrap around and maybe touch the cappy.
Let's see if it kills me. Be so weird if it does. What?
Oh my gosh. Listen to that death animation. And I don't know if you saw that or not, but I think his eyes opened.
Let me go back and check. Let me go back and check. What the heck?
That's so weird. Wait, he's still there. He's still there.
What? This did not happen in the short. And why does his eyes open?
Like so random. Wait, wait, wait, wait. What?
Cappy. Cappy's gone on top of the fake Cappy and he's like glowing and he's not coming back to me. Wait, he is coming back to me.
What? Why is he glowing? Why is he growing?
What? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. This does not look right.
What? What is happening here? Have I just summoned something?
Yo, he's massive. He's like grown like 10 times the size. Wait, why is he looking at me?
No, no, no, no, no. Leave me alone. Leave me alone.
Leave me alone. He's coming towards me. Oh my gosh.
What the heck? Leave me alone. It just killed me and my game crashed.
What was that? Do not test that for yourself. Myth confirmed.
But do not test that for yourself. Anyway, let's check back in on my other switch and see if I've pushed the shadow far [music] enough. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. Perfect timing.
We've almost pushed it all the way there. All right, let me remove the tape. Yeah, look at this.
We pushed it so long that it's turned to nighttime. I wonder if this will actually reveal what the shadow is. Anyway, there's only one way to test it.
Come here, Moi. I want to see whether this works or not. Bring you over.
Is this going to reveal the shadow? I'm really nervous. Okay.
Why? Wait, nothing happened. Is this not worked?
What? I thought this would reveal it. Wait a sec.
It's like every time it goes down, it's revealing a bit more of whatever the shadow is. It looks it looks a bit like a a player. What?
We can see his whole body. Now we can see his arms and his hands. Oh my gosh.
Wait, this might be the third Mario brother. Maybe the rumors were true. Okay, what's it going to look like with the face?
What? It just disappeared. And the shadow's not even there anymore.
Where's it gone? It's not even respawn to where it started. Yo, what?
Game data altered. Storage almost full. Loads of the map has been deleted as well.
I think something's growing up in my files. Wait, let me check on that. Yo, look at this.
The brother. SCS files. Now, the biggest file in Mario Odyssey's code.
If that is the shadow, it means it just grew up loads. Normally, it's way smaller than that. All right, I've got an idea.
I've got this SCS file decryptor, which allows me to decrypt any file. So, I'm going to try decrypt the brother. SCS file.
You see, I've got the brother. SCS file loaded. Let's begin the decryption.
I'm kind of nervous. I think this will reveal what he actually looks like and also give me realtime coordinates. So, it's loaded the file brother.
SCS. But I think this is going to take a while cuz you see this progress bar. It's nowhere near full.
So, whilst it's loading, I'm going to test out another myth and maybe this will reveal what the shadow actually is and what it wants. The cursed [clears throat] mirror. Okay.
This next myth comes in from Twitter from Mario Supper 12. And he's saying, "In Mario Odyssey, when Mario opens the closet for just one frame, there are two Marios that appear on screen, one real and one [music] from the costume preview. During that moment, the mirror turns completely dark and shows nothing.
And he's attached a picture showing as like a floating Mario whilst Mario's on screen opening the closet. But if you look at the mirror, it's completely black. And then someone else responded to it saying, "Don't unfreeze your game, then look in the mirror.
" You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to test this out. I'm going to get my game like this and then unfreeze.
See if anything strange happens. I also noticed on the screenshot it says it's on the Switch, too. So, it might only work there.
Okay, so I'm here on my Switch 2, as you can probably tell by the really crisp graphics. But that's not the reason why I'm here. The reason why I'm here is to test out inside of the Odyssey to see if there's actually two Marios on screen at once.
And the way that I'm going to test that out is that I've got a mod where I can pause my game like this. You see, Mario's just floating in midair. So, we can see whatever happens during that one frame window.
So, I can just start it again by pressing it again. Let's see if we can see the two Marios at once. If I press A and then a I think the timing on this is really tight.
I am seeing a flicker. I am seeing it flicker up a little bit before on screen. Like it lingers a little bit more as well.
And the mirror the mirror flickers a bit as well. What? There we go.
There we go. I've gotten it. Look at that.
You do get to see two Marios on screen at once. And look at that mirror. No, that's creepy seeing the mirror pitch black.
I don't really like that, you know. Wait, wait, look at that. The mirror stayed pitch black.
What the heck? And it's reflecting Mario dead weirdly. What?
Wait, it just flickered. Did you see that? What?
Nah. Something's corrupted with this mirror. It keeps on flickering.
What the heck? Oh. Oh, wait.
Oh, it's back to normal again. That was so strange. It's like something with a closet messed up the mirror.
Nah, I don't like that. I'm leaving. Wait, what?
Wait, what? It's not letting me leave the Odyssey. What?
What is up, bro? No. There's something up with this mirror.
I don't like this. Wait, what? The mirror is still flickering whilst I'm in snapshot mode.
What? There is something massively up with that. Anyway, anyway, myth confirmed.
You can see two Marios on screen at once in the Odyssey. Let's check back another decryptor. See if anything's up with it.
Oh, wait, wait. Look at this. It's about halfway done now.
We're getting some weird messages in the log. Non-standard encryption detected. File contains anomalous data.
That does not sound good. Entity name Vario. Is that the third brother's name?
Vario. Okay. Okay.
Hey, it sounds like some weird stuff is happening here, but we still got a little bit left on the progress bar. So, I'm going to keep it woring and test out another myth in the meantime whilst this is going in the background. The red sun.
All right, this is one of the reports I found. It's from Odyssey Archive and he's saying he's found something strange in Mario Odyssey. This sun rose in the Cap Kingdom.
Is it a glitch or intended? And he's attached a picture of a really creepy looking sunrise. This is what I did if anyone wants to recreate it.
I started a new save file. go to big tower, which I think he means the top hat tower in the cap kingdom. Beat Topper, clip out of the arena, went to the start of the kingdom, and then he ground powdered on these four hills.
And once he did that, the weird sun spawned and his game crashed. And this is going kind of viral. It's got like 70k views.
So, let's test it out. First things first, I'm going to start up a new save file like this. There we go.
Start. Skip the boring cut scene. And now I'm just going to speedrun as fast as I can to the top of the top hat tower like in the post.
[music] Okay, now that I'm here, I just have to defeat Topper, which is going to be super easy cuz he's like the easiest boss in the game. Boop. There we go.
Get out of here, you silly boy. Okay, but now that I've defeated him, what I think I want to do is instead of taking this electricity pile onto the next kingdom, I need to figure out a way to clip outside of this arena. But that's going to be difficult cuz if you look at this, I can't even jump over it.
It's got like a height limit. Can't roll out of it. So, I don't actually know what you do here.
Like the post says clip out the arena, but I've never heard of any glitches here. Maybe if I uncapture on the electricity pylon whilst I'm going outside the arena. Wait.
Oh, did that work? Did that work? I didn't even know you could do that.
What the heck? Oh no. I'm just trapped in a bubble.
What? No. I think I've just soft locked my game.
Yeah, I can't I can't even close out my game. I'm pressing home. I've just soft locked my game.
Oh my gosh. [music] I'm going to search for a YouTube video. See if there's a tutorial on this.
>> Mario Odyssey Cat Kingdom Arena clip. >> This looks pretty good. Super Mario Odyssey top out of bounds glitch.
Give it a watch. So, oh, he's doing like the typical like out of bounds clip that like all the other clips do, which is like a spin pound into like a catro roll. Pretty hard to pull off.
It doesn't look like he can actually do it, though. Where's he line himself up to? Oh, what?
Oh, got picked up by the bubble. Teleported back. No, he's got picked up by the bubble again.
What? Wait, the bubble didn't put him back in the arena. Yo, what?
That's crazy. Does that actually work? So, I think he like lined himself up here and did like a spin pound.
Cappy. What? Oh, wait.
Wait. I'm I'm in first try. What the heck?
Nah, that's insane luck. But it keeps on putting me in a bubble. Let me let me go.
Wait. I think I escaped the bubble. I think I escaped the bubble.
So, I can just like roam around like the boss fight's still playing. Wonder if anything's changed. Like, these glmbbas are still here.
All right, let's go to the back to the start of the kingdom. Wait, wait, look at this. The gate that's normally there is loaded out.
So, it's just got like the the top hat thing from the top of it there. Can I still jump at it? No.
What? [laughter] It's still got like the Cappy holders where you throw Cappy on. Oh, and I can see the glowing tower where we should be.
Oh, but anyway, what the post was saying is if we jump on these these four mounts, then it somehow triggered the sunrise one. Three. Four.
Did that work? No. I I I don't think that worked.
I think this is just like fake. They might have just photoshopped that image and I just fell for it. What a bozo.
Wait, look at that. No way. Oh my gosh.
The sunrise is happening. It It doesn't look evil though. It actually looks super super pretty.
Look at that. Oh, this is super cool. It's like a nice little little Easter egg.
I wonder why Nintendo programmed this in and why it's so hard to hard to spawn. That's super super random. But that that is really pretty.
It's in the sunrise over the Cap Kingdom. Doesn't look evil at all though. Wait, what?
Wait, what's wrong with his face? His face just swapped. It's got like a a smile.
And what? Why is there red surrounding me? What the heck?
What is this? What? I think I just got lasered by the sun.
No, no, no, no, no. I don't like this. Everything's on fire now.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Stop this. Stop this.
Stop this. Oh my gosh. The sun's trying to kill me.
Okay, I think he's stopped. I think he's stopped. Oh no, no, no, no.
He hasn't. He's shooting so much. What?
Oh no, no, no. I do not like this at all. Wait, I think he's coming towards me.
He's glowing brighter. Oh my gosh. Nah, I'm not dealing with this.
I'm closing my game. I'm quitting out. That is so crazy.
Why would Nintendo program that into their game? Oh, anyway, myth confirmed. You can summon like an evil son in the Cap Kingdom.
All right, let's check back in on the decryptor and see if anything's changed there. Oh my gosh. Okay, the progress bar is almost done and the log saying some really, really weird things.
Like the entity is self-aware. Oh, it looks like I'm going to get realtime tracking. Maybe it will give me like a coordinates or something.
Decryption complete. Caution. Entity is currently active in your game.
Oh, no way. No way. Okay, it's telling me it's in the cap world.
Okay. All right. Okay.
I'm back in my game. I haven't been on this since I started the decryption. And it looks like maybe that brother virus has eaten into the game loads.
Everything's looking like it's being deleted. Oh my gosh. Okay, we need to get to the Odyssey quickly.
Get to the cap world. Let's see if I can chase him down or at least see what he looks like and see what he's doing to the world. What the heck?
What's happened here? Do you see this? All the kingdoms are now missing and it looks like the world map has gone gone black.
What What is that about? Look at that. Like the text here is completely corrupted and the the videos aren't playing.
The preview videos for the kingdoms aren't playing. Okay. Okay.
Get to the catboard. That one still seems to be intact. It's still got the video for that.
What? What the heck? Okay.
This is boogie. This is not meant to happen. Like skip.
What am I looking at? Whatever this entity is, it looks like it's like eating in and corrupting all the kingdoms in the game cuz like the cap kingdom does not normally look like this. Okay, it says he's in the waterfall world, which I think is the Cascade Kingdom.
It's the name for the Cascade Kingdom in the code. Uh let's see if he's there. That better not be Oh my gosh.
Yeah, look at that. Half the kingdom's missing. It's almost like the game's running out of space to make room for the virus.
Where Where is he though? Oh my gosh. He's swatched He's switched kingdoms again.
He's gone to the Lake Kingdom now. Oh my gosh, this this looks so messed up. I'm actually terrified.
Like my heart is beating so fast. How How is this entity doing this? Do you see anything?
I don't I don't see the entity anywhere. Wait, never mind. It says he's in the city world now, which is the Metro Kingdom, New Donk City.
Okay. Okay, make my world way to it quick. Yo, what what's happened to the Earth now?
And where have all the other kingdoms gone? Like all their names have been deleted. It's just the Lake Kingdom and the Metro Kingdom.
It won't let me even select any other kingdom. Okay. Okay.
I guess we have to go to the Metro Kingdom. Okay. Nothing seems different here.
But oh no, it says he's now in the City World main tower stage. I think that's the New Donk City Tower. But look at it here.
It says he knows you're watching. I don't even know if I want to go near him. Oh no.
I can't see his decrypted model data either. It's like it's glitched out. It's like he doesn't want us to see what he looks like.
All right. I guess I'm going to teleport to the main tower. All right.
Is the ent going to be through here? >> Wait. This looks different.
>> Why does it have dash dash dash dash? Oh my gosh. Oh, it's spooky in this building.
I don't like it. And it says his status is underground. And if you look at his Y position, he's really low down.
Mine is 4,000 something. Is he underneath? It looks like the building goes underneath.
I don't see him around here anywhere, but I think if I jump down, I just die. Oh, it doesn't matter. I've slipped.
I'm going down anyway. And I didn't die. I've hit I've hit some kind of floor.
Do you see him? I don't see him. Oh, my heart is pounding.
[laughter] That looks like a tunnel up there. Do I want to go into this tunnel? It says he knows you're watching.
So, I don't know. Maybe the It says the entity is self-aware as well. Is it a self-aware virus?
I'm not sure. It doesn't look like he's down this tunnel, though. What's through here?
Like another part of the building. What is this place? H.
Can I gra Oh, okay. Hey, I just slipped down. Oh no.
Um, there's nowhere where I can get back to. I'm just like I can't grab onto any of these ledges. Wait, what was it?
Is that the ocean? What on earth? Wait.
Okay, I'm in the city. The city's nighttime and I'm falling below the city. Oh my gosh.
Okay, I'm looking at the coordinates. He's really low down. I might be I might be near him.
Oh, this looks crazy being below the city at night. And I'm grabbing onto something. What am I hanging on to?
What? Why is the rock guy here? Can I Hello.
He doesn't seem to be moving, though. And what am I standing on? I'm standing on like some kind of invisible floor.
I don't like this place. Is there anything else around other than that moi guy? Wait, he's moving.
Well, maybe didn't move. He wasn't moving before. Hey, come back here.
Come back here. I want to capture you. Maybe there's something when I put my glasses down because last time when I saw the entity, it was when the glasses were down.
So, if I put my glasses down like this. Oh, what? There's loads of invisible platforms here.
That's how I didn't fall down. This is terrifying. Is Is that a toad?
Why is there a toad down here? He looks a bit glitched. Like he's flickering.
What on earth? Oh, the game must be like fully corrupting. I do not like this.
What was that? Okay, my game just crashed. What happened there?
And why are the switch menus now so buggy? Um, okay. Can I go back into my game?
I'm going to I'm going to boot up the game again. I think we got to see the brother, though. Like, if you go back in the footage there, I think you'll be able to see the brother's face.
Wait, null. Look at that. Look, all the text and the logo is messed up here.
It's just got question marks. What? This is a different color.
>> What's happened to Mario? And what's happened to all the text? It's just gibberish and question marks.
Oh my gosh. What? Can I even play the game in this state?
The heck? Wait, I'm in the I'm in the Cap Kingdom. What?
My My screen's just gone black. Has my game My game hasn't crashed. Wait, look at this though.
Like I'm trying to turn on my switch now. It's not It's not turning on. It's like it's it's like it's fully bricked.
Like what's happened? I guess myth confirmed. But don't try this yourself, otherwise your Switch will be bricked like this.
Anyway, if you want to see some more scary myths, click on screen right now. They're all really cool and you'll definitely enjoy them. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this and I'll see you over in this next video.
Bye.
