hi I'm Joseph McClendon the third listen we're all going through it right now we're in it neck deep in it and we're all seeking change because we believe that change is what is necessary to create a better future but the truth is it's not true you cannot put a bandaid on cancer and expect it to heal and this explosion of unrest that we're all going through right now is the result of doing just that for far far too long if first it was the civil rights in the 60s and further back than that and there
was Rodney King in all of those cases we all made some changes didn't we even society made some changes but it all went back and that's what we have what we have right now what we want is something called lasting change lasting change but you cannot have it is impossible to create lasting change without first exposing and then treating the cause and in this case the cause is a set of beliefs that we all have about ourselves about other people and about the world around us if we're black we've got a psychological wound about ourselves
about other people and about the world around it how this it's going to treat us if you're white or anybody else you you'd still have a set of beliefs about yourself about the world around you about other people and the only way to change that the only way to interrupt that is something called process-oriented pattern replacement what does that mean that means there is a process it's process that creates progress not talk not inspiration there's a process to change how you think which will change how you feel with for change what you do will change
what you get and that's what is necessary look if you come into my office and you got a fear of dogs take a guess what's gonna be in my office gonna be a dog at the end of that session one-hour session you're not only gonna hold that dog and love that dog and you won't have a fear of that dog anymore but now you'll have the tool that you can use yourself back in your life we're in a leadership crisis right now it doesn't mean that there's any shortage of leaders that are going to inspire
us and get us activated and get us excited but the shortage is in leaders that are going to teach us how to change ourselves and so there's three steps that we can do right now to create lasting change number one we've got to educate our leaders to bring into their conversation into their narrative the conversation about changing yourselves and teach them how to do that and at the risk of sounding arrogant there's nobody better qualified than me I have two unique skills one of them is listen I am the hired gun I'm the guy that
they bring me into their seminars for the last three decades other people bring me into their seminars ten fifteen twenty thousand people at a time four and a half million people over the last three decades and I teach those people I show them I take them through processes they get results that all the lights come on their lives change and then they take that back to their communities and their communities change and they thrive there but there's only about three to four percent of any of those audiences are black which means there's a huge huge
gap between the haves and the have-nots and it's showing up right now and it always has and so the first step is we got to educate our leaders number two the second step is that we got to assess the battles listen the war that has been going on for four hundred and one years any war is won by the battles you don't just send your soldiers into battles and you go listen go out there and you fight until you die you go out there and you fight until you win or whatever happens you send them
out there and you go you go take this mountain or you take this Beach and then we're going to assess what happens so that we can send us or other troops out there to take care of and make it happen so the truth is is we got to do that with the battles that we're winning we want to battle just the other day the third thing is is that we have to make clear the steps that are necessary to create that lasting change in the case of the police right now obviously body cams and better
training and access to those body cams and vetting and things like that that's obvious but on the case of our own beliefs it is town hall meetings it is leadership training it is taking people through those processes and our leaders need to do that as I said we're in a leadership crisis and I cannot wait to be part of that solution remember this life is exactly what you dare to make it and fortune favors the bold and the trick to life is to boldly step up and dare to make her life magnificent I look forward
to serving you and I'll see you at the top I'm out
