Four dangerous things the elderly should never do before sleep. God is warning you. Don't let the sun go down on a spirit that's not [music] ready.
Let me ask you something. How do you end your day? Not how you brush your teeth or fluff your pillow.
I mean your spirit. What kind of shape is your soul in when your head hits the pillow? Because when you get older, the night feels heavier.
Time feels shorter and the silence starts speaking louder than ever before. See, young people sleep like they've got a thousand more mornings. But when you've lived long enough, [music] you start realizing every night might be your last.
And I'm not saying that to scare you. I'm saying that to wake you up. Because every time you lay down, you're either inviting peace to rest on your life or you're giving darkness room to grow in your soul.
The elderly are not weak. You're not washed up. You are still spiritually dangerous.
If you stay sharp, but too many believers, as they age, slowly fade into spiritual passivity. They stop guarding their thoughts. They stop confessing their sins.
They stop preparing their hearts to meet God. But listen to me. The way you end your day reflects how prepared you are to end your life.
And whether you're 65 or 95, your bedtime is more spiritual than you think. So, in this video, I'm going to show you [music] four things every elderly believer should avoid before going to bed. Because what you carry into the night often carries into eternity.
Number [music] one, don't go to bed with unforgiveness in your heart. If there's one thing that can rot your spirit from the inside out, it's holding on to bitterness when the day [music] is done. Unforgiveness may seem small, just a thought, just a grudge, just a memory.
But spiritually, it's poison. [music] And if you drink it before you sleep, it will grow roots in the soil of your soul. You've lived a long life.
You've been hurt. You've been betrayed. And maybe some of that pain still has a voice in your heart tonight.
But here's the truth. Unforgiveness doesn't protect you. It imprisons you.
Jesus didn't suggest forgiveness as a nice idea. He commanded [music] it. In Matthew 6:14, he said, "If you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Let that sink in. Your peace is [music] tied to your pardon.
Not theirs. Yours. And you might say, "But you don't know what they did to me.
" No, [music] but Jesus does. And still he forgave. Still he loved.
Still he died for you [music] and even for them. Unforgiveness in old age is dangerous because you're closer to the finish line and the enemy knows it. So he whispers, "Just keep holding on to it.
They never apologized anyway, but he's not trying to comfort you. He's trying to you right before the gates of eternity. Don't let the sun go down on your anger.
Don't let the night steal your peace. " Release them. Speak it out loud.
Say, "God, I forgive them. Not because they deserve it, but because I don't want to go to sleep in chains. Because every time you choose mercy, you sleep lighter, you dream clearer, you live freer, and maybe, just maybe, you'll wake up in the presence of the one who forgave you first.
Number two, don't feed your mind darkness before [music] sleep. Let's be honest, the last thing you put into your mind before bed doesn't just stay there. It marinates.
It seeps into your soul. It shapes your thoughts, your dreams, even your spirit. And when you're older, that effect gets stronger [music] because your nights are quieter.
You're not rushing to work in the morning. You're not caught up in busyness or noise. [music] The distractions are fewer, which means your mind is more vulnerable to [music] what you feed it before you sleep.
So, let me ask you, what are you watching? What are you scrolling through? What voices are you letting speak into your heart when you're just relaxing?
Because you may not realize this, but that late night drama, that violent movie, that endless fear-filled news report, that gossip post online, it's not harmless. It's spiritual food, and you're going to bed full of it. Philippians 4:8 tells us exactly what to think about.
Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, think about such things. So if it's dark, vile, bitter, lustful, or hopeless. [music] Why are you letting it into your spirit before you rest?
Because here's the truth. The Holy Spirit wants to speak to you in the night, but he won't compete with the garbage you just watched. You want [music] peaceful sleep?
Then sew peace into your mind. You want to hear God's whisper at night? Then silence the world's noise before your head hits the pillow.
Try this for one week. Turn off the news. Silence the entertainment.
Put your phone down. Instead, read a psalm. Play worship.
Sit in quiet and say, "Speak, Lord, I'm listening. " You'll be shocked how quickly your sleep changes, your mind clears, your dreams shift, and your spirit feels lighter. The enemy loves to use your evening as an open door, but God wants it [music] to be a sanctuary.
So don't feed your mind fear. Don't feast on filth. Don't go to bed full of the world.
Go to bed full of the word. Number three, don't lay down without speaking [music] to God. You've spoken to your family today.
You've checked in with the news. You've maybe [music] even scrolled through messages from friends. But have you spoken to God?
Because going to bed without prayer is like walking into battle without armor. It doesn't matter how old you are. If you're still breathing, you're still in the middle of a spiritual war.
And you don't win that war by sleeping through it. Psalm 4:8 says, "In peace I will lie down and sleep for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. " That's [music] not just a nice bedtime verse.
It's a spiritual reality. Peace comes from presence, and presence only comes through prayer, but too many older Christians have settled into a dangerous habit. They treat God like a tradition, not a person.
They say he already knows my heart. They say I'll pray tomorrow. They say it's been a long day.
I'm tired. But let me ask you something. If tonight was your last, what would you wish you had said to God?
Because here's the truth. You don't outgrow prayer. You don't age out of intimacy with the father.
In fact, the older you get, the more crucial it becomes. When your body slows down, your spirit should sharpen. When your schedule clears, your conversation with heaven should deepen.
Don't just say a routine line like, "God bless this night. " Talk to him. Really talk to him.
Thank him. Confess [music] to him. Listen to him.
Tell him what's on your mind. Ask him to watch over your family. Surrender your thoughts, your sins, your fears.
Because when you speak to God before bed, you're not just talking, you are transferring the weight. [music] And suddenly the burdens you carried all day get handed to the only one who can carry them through the night. You'll sleep deeper.
You'll dream clearer. You'll wake up stronger. So tonight, before you close your eyes, open your mouth, [music] and speak to the one who never sleeps.
Number four, don't ignore your conscience, even if it's quiet. Let me tell you something. Most people won't.
Just because your conscience is quieter, doesn't mean it's gone. As you get older, your body may slow down. Your energy may decrease.
Your days may blend together. But the Holy Spirit, he doesn't retire. [music] He doesn't go silent just because you've hit a certain age.
He still convicts. He still nudges. He still whispers, "That wasn't right.
Come back to me. " But here's the danger. If you keep ignoring him long enough, you start mistaking silence for peace.
When really, it's just a hardened heart. First Timothy 1:19 says, [music] "Cling to your faith in Christ and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences.
[music] As a result, their faith has been shipwrecked. Did you catch that? Shipwrecked.
[music] Not because of temptation, but because they silenced conviction. Maybe there's something small you've been ignoring. A comment you made that cut someone deeply.
A habit you justified years ago that's now rooted in sin. A relationship that needs healing, but pride keeps the door shut. And at night when everything quiets down, you feel it.
That holy nudge. That gentle stirring that says, "Get [music] it right. Clean it up.
Don't carry this another day. " But instead, you turn over in bed. [music] You tell yourself, "It's too late now.
" You say, "God knows my heart. " You distract yourself with a show, a snack, a scroll on your phone. But deep down, you know God's not done talking.
Let me say this clearly. It is never too late to obey. Never too late to repent.
Never too late to come clean. Because if God is still speaking, no matter how soft, it means he still wants you close. So tonight, don't fall asleep brushing off that quiet voice.
Don't wait for another sermon or another Sunday. Your conscience is a gift. Use it.
[music] Respond to it. Let it drive you back to the cross again and again because a clean conscience is better than any sleeping pill. Conclusion: End each day as if it were your last.
Let's bring this [music] home. You've lived long. You've seen much.
You've walked through storms, [music] climbed mountains, and survived valleys. But now, more than ever, you must be intentional [music] because time is no longer a luxury. And every night is a closing chapter.
But how are you ending your days? With cluttered thoughts, with grudges still chained to your heart, with no prayer, no reflection, no peace. That's not how a child of God ends the day.
[music] That's not how a warrior of faith lays down their head. You're not just an old person going to bed. [music] You are an eternal soul preparing to meet your king.
So, here's what I want you to do from now on. Before you close your eyes, treat your bed like an altar. Lay down your fears.
Confess your faults. Forgive those who hurt you. Clean your conscience.
Speak to your father. Because one day you will lay down and not get up. And on that day, your bedtime won't be routine.
It will be transition. Your next breath won't be on earth. [music] It will be an eternity.
Your next voice won't be yours. It will be God's. And he won't ask how clean your room was.
He won't ask what shows you watched. He won't ask if you were comfortable. He'll ask if your heart was ready.
So don't waste these final seasons. Don't let sleep come while your spirit is still cluttered. [music] End each day with intentionality.
End each day with intimacy. End each day with eternity in mind. Because how you end the day is how you'll end your life.
And how you end your life is how you'll meet your savior. Tonight, [music] don't just sleep. Surrender.
Let God watch over you. Let peace settle in. [clears throat] and let your soul rest because it's clean, it's ready, [music] and it's close to heaven.
Amen.
