hey louis here and this is a pimsleur review so in this video i'm going to answer three questions the first question you may be asking yourself is well is pimsleur effective can i actually just use pimsleur and nothing else and you know after i finish the method basically am i going to be able to have uh good conversations like be conversationally very comfortable at a very comfortable level the second question is well okay if i'm convinced that it is effective then where can i actually get some sort of discount like the lowest price possible the
best price possible for the pinzzler course that you're looking for regardless of the language and the third thing i think i reversed the second and the third thing but the first thing is some people want to know exactly well why is it that it is effective and how to use the method how to use pensler so the first thing i want to answer is is pensler effective and here the answer is a big resounding yes let me let me just sort of give you more details so when you look at language learning methods and i
have a lot of experience with it i've been learning languages for years i failed at many many languages and then over the years my methods sort of you know developed and you know i'm a software developer so i developed custom software for myself and so i have a very good sort of understanding of what goes into effective methods and so i mean i hope you'll agree that for example i'm speaking english to you right now and this is not my native language i actually had to learn english on my own and so all of this
has allowed me to come to the conclusion while i also read some scientific research that basically when it comes to language learning there are only three things that really matter when considering any method and the pinzzler method the pimsleur course actually has those three components which makes it very very effective especially for people who are busy who want to learn a language but they don't have like an hour two hours ten hours every day to dedicate to their language learning so it's good for busy people and it's especially good for busy people busy people who
want to emphasize that conversational aspect you really want to get conversational as opposed to say you know being able to read news articles or being able to write in the language that is not to say that pimsleur is not going to teach you those things but there's a huge emphasis on really just talking and listening you know conversation so what are those three things that make pimsleur so effective number one it gives you enough repetition of each sentence of each word of each grammatical structure so language learning it's really a problem of it's like a
leaking bucket there's so much information that you need to retain if you're learning japanese or chinese or any any language even european languages there there's so many vocabulary words just so much information that really the challenge is not to learn new things but rather to retain the things that you have already learned in the past and so most people make the mistake of just you know going out there and by buying textbooks and they're like i i did all the textbook i read it all and i did all of the exercises and oh i also
have this app and this other app and this site to learn this language and you know and it's like well you know you need to spend most of your time just trying to review and trying to retain the things that you have learned in the past and with pimsleur this is done automatically for you the way that it is done is that essentially you have audio lessons so pimsleur is based you know the core of pimsleur is based on audio lessons i only use audio lessons and what you do is that every day you have
one lesson it's 30 minutes you just do one 30 minute lesson every day you just put your earphones in and you know when you're driving or or working out and it basically gives you a lesson centered on around the dialogue and in the dialogue you have sort of the same structures and the same vocabulary that you had in some previous lessons so you have this repetition and it's not you know it the way that pimsleur is organized it's not totally random they put specific grammatical structures and vocabulary words and expressions at spec in specific lessons
in specific days so that you get to review uh specific pieces of information on specific days and this is sort of like a scheduling uh like smart scheduling if you want that is going to enable you to retain everything that you learn in the long term which is the most important thing in language learning now the second thing the second reason why pensar is really effective is really advantageous compared to other methods is because it allows you to have a deep level of mental processing now this is not a fancy term that i've made up
on my own this is from the scientific research on uh you know language like second language acquisition essentially what this means is that you know like traditional methods like textbooks and whatnot like you're reading for example something in your target language in chinese and whatnot and you see a word and you're like oh yeah i know this word i remember it and it means this in english and you're like okay fine yeah i recognized it well this is a shallow level of processing you're just recognizing a word if you want to really memorize and be
able to use the language you know in the long term and effectively you need to have this deep level of processing which means for example in pimsleur what they do in each lesson you're not just listening passively you're also getting asked like a lot of questions they ask you questions in the language and you need to answer in the language and then they they make you listen to the answer so it's very interactive the lessons are very interactive which makes for a deeper level of mental processing all of the information is going to be engraved
it's going to be rooted in your brain for much longer just because all the lessons are extremely interactive and then the third thing that makes pins are really great and this is something that you know i came to this realization it's sort of after a few years of uh learning multiple languages and failing at them pimsleur is sustainable so you know if you buy a penciller course it's going to take you anywhere from three months to six months and so every day and so it's only 30 minutes but you know it's a few months and
so you need something that is actually sustainable in the sense that you can easily consume the lessons and you actually look forward at least a little bit to consuming those lessons and pinzler is exactly that so for example you can actually go in the description of this video on youtube and you can click on the link in the description it's going to lead you to uh the the pimsleur website where you can get a seven day free trial of their app so go ahead and click on this link and and you can get a seven
day free trial that that's like a special offer and you can actually create an account on the app and download the app and you will actually get seven lessons while seven days for free and you will see that the lessons as you listen during your free trial it they're actually pretty entertaining like you want to do a second lesson after the first lesson and it's super easy because you have the app and you just click on download so that you you know you download the audio for when you're offline like when you're driving and whatnot
and all you need to do is you know when you're in the car take the take your phone well you know when not when you're driving but when you're in the parking lot of course but you take the take your phone and just press play and that's it you're doing the lesson you're learning the language when you're driving it's so easy it's entertaining it's sustainable so those are the three reasons why pimsleur is so great compared to other methods it's it it gives you a lot of repetition it offers a deep level of mental processing
and it's sustainable so it's something that you like doing and it's easy now as i said now i'm going to talk more about the sort of the logistics of it what do you do if you want to try if you want to uh actually use pimsleur well essentially you have two options here you can go on the website right now and you're going to get uh if you see the pricing it's very expensive uh each language well the biggest languages like french spanish russians you know and uh maybe italian japanese they have i think five
or six levels and each level is like a hundred or 150 dollars it's very very expensive it's prohibitively expensive now what you can do on the other hand is i have a special offer that i managed to negotiate with uh pinzler pimsleur and it's a seven day free trial and then what you get is you only get access to the app i think that's what it is it's only the app so it's not the laptop desktop version but you know the the mobile app actually has all the lessons it's complete so you get the the
app for 19. it's almost it's like 20 dollars a month so 7 day free trial so there's no risk you just you know try it out and if you don't like it you know you just stop it so you get the seven day free trial plus the monthly subscription which is much less expensive than buying the individual courses on the pimsleur website just click on the link in the description and you'll see now in total if you're learning uh if you if you actually go until the end so that's going to be i think it's
about six months so six months six times 20 it's 120 total it's much less expensive than just going on the website and buying the individual lessons it's going to cost you like 400 to 600 dollars for one language it's just really expensive so go ahead try it out just click the link in the description and create a free account it doesn't cost anything and i hope you like this video let me know in the comments if you get some good results with pimsleur and i'll see you next time
