this is a video for Michael who some message this week who's at his width in sales and is knocking the results he wants and he doesn't know what to do now given that only had a few minutes to respond to my LinkedIn DMs I wanted to share an expand on my answer here on what to do because I felt like my short answers didn't do you justice first let me just read what you had sent me do you think some sales jobs are just set to make people fail I feel like it has to do
with territory Etc but another part just says that's an excuse I'm at my wits and same story work hard put in too many hours end up with mediocre results I see you worked at X so I assume you maybe know something about X where I'm at it just feels like a dead end budget expectations that are impossible some months Etc just looking for insight I saw your post this morning and just made me think first off I appreciate you sharing your tough situation Michael and you're right in a certain sense in some companies some situations
some reps are said to have greater chances for Success than others and I know I can feel hopeless especially with an unrealistic sales quote on top of that so here's my advice and I'm gonna give it to you straight whether it's true or not it still doesn't change your circumstances it still doesn't change results or your income so the first thing you must do is accept the situation but not the outcomes you might be 100 correct that you have a bad territory smaller territory bad leads no leads insane unrealistic quote expectations Etc that's still the
hand you're dealt regardless now it's up to you to decide what to do with it if you decide to be a victim and just keep doing what you're doing you're gonna keep getting the same results to the point of probably burn out or you'll get fired or you take the option of taking 100 responsibility to and do something about it which ties into my next point which is 100 self accountability what do you take 100 self ownership and accountability you now own whether you win or lose back in 2007 I almost got fired I mean
I I blame the recession my bad boss lack of training no leads lack of pmf every thing I can blame I blamed and I realized at that point I had to wake the [ __ ] up and take 100 ownership that was the first step then I figured out what was causing my awful results and in sales the reason most fails because of one of three reasons number one they lack the skill this means there are massive skill deficit in whatever their role entailed with is prospecting running powerful discoveries great demos clothing Etc or number
two they lack the will meaning they are not doing enough of the income producing activities consistently to get the results they desire for instance you could have a 90 close rate but if you only run one sales call a month your results are gonna suck or three It's a combination of both the ipas and Converse activities are not being done or not the right level and they're being done badly it's like basketball if you're not shooting enough thoughts and the shots you are shooting have terrible form you're going to have shitty results so once you
take 100 ownership now it's time for the third piece which is don't do your best do what's required to be successful let's talk about skills first you must go and acquire the sales skills necessary for Success this may mean getting coaches buying courses buying books Etc you must first acquire the knowledge to then be able to apply the knowledge now you might be thinking how I'm not making any money so I can't afford getting a coach buying courses buying books whatever that's the exact reason why I gotta find a way to do it for instance
when I'll struggling to live off my base salary of 29 500 I first cut every expense possible I live in a shared apartment so my rent was 310 a month 450 with utilities I never ate out I never bought clothes I stuck my own drinks into pars I didn't have cable didn't have subscription Services I literally lived as cheap as possible so I could take the extra income into invest into my number one asset which is me with coaches courses and books nothing was spent on anything else in today's time you can get an abundance
of free information on YouTube and get books of Library start as well then you can start Investing For more specific knowledge contextual help after my point is find a way to acquire the knowledge this also means cutting stuff out of your life so you have time to consume the knowledge make it your job outside your day job to consume the knowledge now as you are doing this you must apply the will the knowledge by itself won't change your results or increase your skills even if you're investing into it it's about execution it's execute the knowledge
consistently now the mistake most make is trying to implement what they learn somewhere in real life without practice that's like a soccer player who watched a YouTube video on how to kick a ball never practice and showed up with a World Cup expecting to be great that's stupid instead when you're learning things take time to practice to build that muscle memory of what you are learning yes this takes time sacrifice but if you are truly tired of being broke having mediocre results advancing your skills is the number one way to stop being broke forever for
instance as I was coming up and learning new strategies I would find the time a couple hours each evening to practice over and over and over for Mastery if it was cold calling I'm running through my scripts out loud following the proper Pace inflection tonality and attitude and they'll run through four to five objections as well on my daily 45 minute commute one way I would practice as well so when you add it all up I was literally practicing 15 plus hours a week every part of my sales process outside of my working hours this
level of will simply helped prepare me for the day job think of professional sports pro athletes will put in hours at a gym daily for weeks and months on end if not years when it's a game or competition it's a fraction of the time in comparison to how much they practice Pros practice far more than they play while amateurs play far more than they practice and the results and income reflect that so what happens when you apply this level of will towards your skills skills start going up then you also are applying a will to
all your inputs and then while you're doing this you're also applying the will to all your inputs during the day the reason this is really important is because if your skills are not good yet you simply need the repetitions to get better as the saying goes repetition is a father of Mastery and of course this is in addition to all the outside practices doing so for instance if your boss wants you to make 100 calls a day prepare 200 calls a day if they want you to run five Discovery calls a week shoot for 10
Discovery calls a week even if you're 10 you're improving but if you are struggling not getting the results you want put the ego aside and do it for instance I switch company to unlucky to whole new Instagram you nothing about my sales manager asked me to go and cold call by foot 50 businesses my first week that's physically walking in talking to Gatekeepers and prospects now instead of having an eaglebot because my prior work history and results at a different company instead of 50 I walked into over 300 businesses that week I would have taken
most reps six to eight weeks to do I did it in one week and I did it several weeks in a row I did more in one month than most did in four to six months but here's a beautiful part it compressed my learning curve to a fraction of everyone else as I learned so much so quickly and listen it's gonna be really really hard and yes it's gonna suck a lot from the level effort to the sacrifice required and you're gonna suck too for a while not only that some of your peers and friends
might be like hey why are you working so hard Michael why are you doing all this stop come drinking with us instead then you gotta ask yourself how bad do I want it and why do I want it and if you really want it bad you must block the noise out you must cut out the mediocrity and focus on what's required to become successful in sales if he truly become massively successful at anything it comes at a cost you either pay that cost or you pay the cost of the consequences that follow when you don't
perform I want you to remember this is for this current season of learning and advancing your skills to get yourself out of your current situation you might be sacrificing a lot of time energy money and more dues right now but it's doing it now to set you up for long-term success so down the road you have far more time and far more money it's a season of sacrifice and every season ends a new one begins now what's going to happen when you take 100 accountability and you focus on acquiring knowledge and taking Massive Action before
and after work is that your skills will start improving and so will your results as you continue this trend you'll see your skills and results go up as well your confidence will go up and you'll start seeing success now Michael let's say you are right and it really is a bad territory with really unrelated the quarters but now you at least know you're maxing it out to what you know is your potential you're doing the best that you can with what you got by increasing your skills you're making lemonade with lemons and now that you've
actually acquired more skills more confidence you can actually go and lend another better opportunity somewhere else you now know you can Thrive because you have transferable skills your coughs will come through interviews because you know what sacrifices you made to get there then you can rinse repeat for Success the mistake a lot of people make is that they miss step two taking 100 self-accountability so when they're in a tough situation they just blame the situation the circumstances whomever whatever they do not actually fix their lack of skills they lack the skill and they lack the
will so they find another job and sometimes it's a better one but because they lack the skills and the will the same gaps they have will also impact their new job thus their results would suck at a new place anyways and eventually they'd have to quit or they got fired their sins followed them everywhere they went because they never worked on them it's like the person who goes from a relationship to relationship to relationship to relationship and they always blame the other person for having false the harsh truth is this the only common denominator is
that person so Michael I know you're struggling I know your tough spot but just know you got this and just remember nothing changes unless you change first hope this helps get after your week
