hi there i'm dr elmer chung and welcome to your friendly proctologist thank you so much for being here i appreciate your support the comments have been awesome i try my best to answer you but i appreciate all your questions and support appreciate you liking the videos and subscribing and would you do so with this video as well it would greatly help this channel to progress and help more people like us right the question for today is this person poses a question as it's kind of like an internal thought it seems like a personal thought but
this person displayed it in the comment section and said there's i have a debate as to whether i should leave my external hemorrhoids alone or remove them she was this person i think was a she said that i can't go on living like this but the cons of the procedure seem to be just outweigh all the benefits can you help me dr chung and so here we go it depends on what surgeon you go to okay and also number two depends on what your hemorrhoids look like external hemorrhoids is just to say that you have
bumps on the outside of your bottom end filled with blood vessels that's all it is but doesn't say if they're neatly organized into one bump maybe there's like 15 little ones or maybe there's just three bigger ones it that's it so that's why the consultation the appointment is very important at least to me okay i'm just going to talk about myself i won't talk about any other surgeons because it's for me it tells me whether i can see if i can give you a benefit by offering a procedure okay to re when i remove it
can i guarantee a good outcome where you're gonna feel benefit and get good results otherwise i don't recommend a procedure okay if i feel like i can't guarantee you something no i'm not gonna recommend it to you because i don't like unhappy patients i don't like buying services or products that i know i'm not going to get the benefit i'm spending my hard earned money i need that's why i'm coming to you right so it makes it has to make complete sense but when i do the procedure in the office for a patient i have
a special way of doing things and another person has been commenting me with me back and forth i have a special technique that i use with numbing okay so they only feel a little burn the beginning with the pin prick but everything else is essentially you have no pain okay and then the procedure itself when i do in the office again no pain it's been amazing developing this procedure and i'm surprised all the time at how much i can do and many other surgeons will say i need to take you to the operating room okay
that adds more costs it adds more time off from work and if they're doing other pers other hemorrhoids inside of your anus as well that extends your recovery and also extends the pain okay and when i'm just concentrating on the external hemorrhoids because that's your main complaint main problem not the inside just the outside then i don't see a reason to really mess with your internal hammers just because you have them okay again the consultation is super important and allows me to offer you possible solutions okay so if you have a procedure by me in
the office and it's removed you know then usually people are taking some extra pain medication about three to four days on average and then you're usually on ibuprofen tylenol after that is there pain yes in the recovery the beginning sucks there's a constant cut type of pain in your butthole the other thing that compounds that you gotta use your butthole still you gotta poop out of it right and so keeping your stool soft is very important i help you with that but the pain can continue for a week maybe 10 days because while that cut
is there it's like you have an anal fissure now of one made by yours truly so that hurts okay and whenever that poop goes by it stretches it it's not so great but is it better than a huge hemorrhoid surgery 100 all the time 10 out of 10 yes it hurts but it's not as bad you go back to work faster it's not like the hemorrhoid surgery okay because the minimum amount of work that i do is reasons for less pain faster recovery all that good stuff okay so to answer your question this person's question
that debate it depends on your hemorrhoids depends on the surgeon and the options that he or she can offer you and um you know the rest of it is very subjective because of how you deal and experience pain but i'd say that if your life quality of life has been hampered or decreased enough because of the hemorrhoids you can't do what you need to do then the recovery may be worth it i say may maybe it deserves a conversation with your surgeon so i hope this was helpful for you it did go a little bit
long but i'm trying something new this time around not afraid to learn i wish you the best take care bye
