Up And subscribe to the channel where we like to joke around by the way thank you for clicking this now let's get into Joker 2 fully Ado electric Baloo sing Hallelujah come on okay so Joker foled is a direct continuation of the story of about the Fleck though the first film was all about I'm going to become the Joker part two is sort of I'm going to become not the Joker I do want to go more in depth on the plot later on but with this being an ending explained I thought I'd start there for
a bit of context though we see his authors put on trial for his crimes in the first film we close out with an explosion rocking the courthouse and author's able to escape running back to the steps from the first film Lee breaks up with him because she realizes he's not really the Joker the entire film has been about his two sides and the duel identity that exists within the character she'd fall in love with the joker and then breaks up with him because she realizes he's not I kind of saw this as being a flip
on the classic Lois line Superman thing where they'd go back and forth over whether she'd fall in love with Clark if that's all that he was there Lois always ended up coming through but Harley does the reverse now that lays the groundwork for his return to Arkham Where We once more come across an unnamed inmate we don't know his name his past or who he is we just know he has this little obsession with Arthur in the end he asks if he wants to hear a joke which is a question several characters have asked him
throughout the movie he says a psychopath walks into a bar and sees a drunk clown which makes him disappointed because he used to admire him the psychopath then asked what he wanted and the clown said if he's buying he can get him anything and the psychopath says you get what you [ __ ] deserve and he brutally stabbed him kind of butchered that joke as Arthur dies though he cuts a Glasgow smile into his face and this highlight he's taken on the monare in between this Arthur also imagines he's on stage alongside Lee this is
a recreation of the Murray Franklin show which is one of the final places AR of visited last time you also have him being in a hallway and an asylum so it's kind of riffing off the ending Lee then sings That's Life which was the song that was used over the top of it but there we had his Ascension whereas here we have his ball this new figure is now going to be the Joker with Arthur simply inspiring what's to come the biggest joke is the Joker's life was a joke which led to Arthur's meaning very
little so really they should go back and change the titles cuz the the guy we followed in that first film wasn't the bloody Joker was he now one thing that were known for at the channel our speed and our browser Opera goes a long way to upping our productivity editing and everything we need here at the channel area is operas AI which is built into the sideboard to make it easily accessible using areas's chat gives you clear answers instantly it can streamline your workflow by providing realtime information it makes everything easier and really elevates Opera

it is click my link in the description Opera is the browser that makes your computer sing so click my link in the description and go and download it now thanks Phillips has actually teased towards us in the buildup to the film as he's made it clear Arthur wasn't going to be a criminal mastermind guy kind of downplayed his importance which at the time I thought was a little weird now though it all makes sense and he was clearly trying to show he wasn't the real Joker now this Motif is something that's been tackled in the
past with Gotham doing it quite a lot that series had their hands tied because they weren't actually owed to make anyone The Joker so they kept having people basically sort of becoming like the character none of them were him in the end but they were meant to inspire what was going to come so it's kind of like that and it's also something that's been touched upon in some of the comics jok has never had a nailed down origin story and they've deliberately kept it ambiguous during Killing Joke the criminals say there's no Red Hood and
they hir different people to done the costume for robberies even then though things like the Red Hood will later Aton to say the original leader was found dead thought jok took over it at some point and due to the leader wearing a mask no one knows when this was so it's always been kept mysterious and the movie doesn't really want to say who the Joker is now I know when the first film came out that was a big fan theory around it which was mainly down to the age difference at this point Bruce has just
a kid and wacking Phoenix was 44 at the point of filming I want to say he's 49 now either way yeah so by the time Bruce became the Batman he he'd basically just be beating up a pensioner which he's not against to be fair either way we always needed the younger person to take over even though they might not go anywhere with this and the glasgo smile was actually originally intended to be the ending of the first film during the imaginary date that Arthur had with Sophie he was going to talk about his life at
school Arthur was going to explain he got bullied but he do something to scare off the other kids he cut out his mouth and then spread the blood out so that it created a smile Arthur was then going to do this at the end when he stood up on the car and it was going to bring everything full circle instead they just had him spreading the blood with them removing the glass go smile thing also I'm sure it's called something else depending on what country you live in but that's just what I've always heard it
referred to as either way it's a characteristic The Joker had in the dark KN with this movie giving a little n to that now because of that I've seen some people saying this might actually be a prequel to Nolan's Trilogy as of writing this we're still before the general release but I've seen that being said amongst the reviewers you never can tell with Warner Brothers they might connect it to Nolan and worst thing is they didn't even warn a brother now personally I don't think it's connected at all and instead it just seems like a
nod rather than a confirmation when we look at Nolan's Trilogy there's a lot of things that don't line up with Joker and the two franchises don't really sit side by side with each other Thomas is never running for May and the family went to the Opera harby Den also didn't become the da until the events of the dark KN Arthur is an unreliable narrator in general so he could have created the backstory for himself and kind of mushed it together I don't believe it but it's one of those things you can probably do the mental
gymnastics to connect it together but yeah to me it's not all connected and it's two totally different things it's not all connected shirts that down below the video in the end though I think it's probably going to annoy a lot of people with this movie being about ripping Arthur down I feel like Todd Phillips felt that people took the wrong idea from the first film and they thought he was glamorizing Joker it's something we've actually seen a lot of directors do with sequels and the first big one that comes to mind is Francis Ford Copler
he walked away from Godfather thinking people took the wrong lessons and that he was trying to glamorized the mafia so part two was about tearing down Michael and in the end it just left him alone so I feel like that's why Phillips did what he did but it kind of makes the first film retroactively worse where as Godfather exceeded in its storytelling doing this this just feels like the whole Trip's been pointless what you mean everything's pointless there's nothing when you die spoiler alert yay I think this is probably going to annoy fans of the
original o but it also won't please people who are critical of it you might remember at the time that a lot of people criticized it for showing men like Arthur in a sympathetic light I remember people saying it was almost like an insult fantasy and that it was going to inspire real life violence this didn't happen but I think it highlighted how complex these sort of topics are it's never just black and white and everyone has a story with a lot of it being caused by existential things not to be like we live in a
society here but but Arthur was a broken man who was broken by a broken system at least that's how I took it anyway whether that's the message of the movie or not it's it's clear that this sentiment at least resonated with some people as the movie went on to make a billion there's definitely an examination of mental health there and it felt like it was trying to at least understand instead of condemning it this film is just kind of ripping him down and yeah I think it'll probably get backlash from the people who found some
semblance in that first movie now where it's trying to deviate from that is through the relationship Arthur develops with Lee the pair end up spiraling into their own Madness together which somewhat ties into the title folad means a Madness shed by two people which we see embodied in the two characters now the next major thing I want to talk about is Holly Quinn or le as she's known in the film in the comics hen was a doctor who became fascinated with the joker she ended up freeing the character from aam and together they continued his
crime spree there Holly was seduced by the clown Prince of Crime but here Le's more of a willing participant he's basically a fan who sees a lot of coming ground with him and we learn that she had herself admitted to Arkham because of this she's allowed to leave when she wants which will talk about later down the line now Lee does end up pregnant which could play into the Joker's daughter's storyline in case you don't know there was a character called that in the comics whose real name's Joella Dent claiming to be several villains daughters
she was of course identified as being the child of Twoface ver introduced in 1976 she's since seen a Resurgence and popularity however she's popped in and out of continuity due to the crisis story lines and so on and potentially what they do with then could hint to that down the line now the killing jokes Also may just storyline that they may have taken nods from with a Joker's wife being pregnant in that she and the baby are killed by a random electrical accident that comes from a malfunctioning baby bottle heater this makes the character see
how chaotic life is and that all it takes us one bad day that night he did a job disguises the Red Hood and ended up falling into an ace chemicals fat the movie has taken some inspiration from that as well with jok or also being an inspiring comedian the character's children are also something we saw explored further down the line with hen having a family during white night that's not considered strictly Cannon but it does kind of show what direction they're going the pair having a child was also touched upon in Arkham City when you
could see Quinn had a positive pregnancy test this was later Eon in the DLC but it highlights how they've touched upon it in several other stories either way we watch she's fascinated with the character and she slowly falls in love with him attempting to clear his name Arthur then goes toe-to-toe with prosecutor Harvey Dent as we mentioned earlier we culminate with a bomb going off which allows Joker to escape the court now in the aftermath of this we see Harvey's face has been badly burned and no prices for guessing what that's going to lead into
actually think they might have some rough ideas for this universe if the film turns out to be successful personally I prefer the direction Matt Reeves is going and I've never been a massive fan of these filling stories that don't feature the hero I think Joko worked because it was before the introduction of Batman and it kind of worked as an origin story for him as well what I'm talking about are things like the sodi Spider-Man Spider-Man lless films I don't really use the character so I think doing a jav den solo story without Batman in
it would lead them down that track and kind of kill off more of the interest in this universe Sony managed to do it for a bit but fans on the whole they they seem to be wise to it now now there's also rumors that Matt Reeves is doing a spin-off with his own version of Harvey D which was brought up in an interview with our friends over at the streamer when asking about penguin and other characters they suggested a show with Javi and Matt said he might be on to something said that to my friend
MO guy then realized he might have said too much and quickly shut down the question so he could be seeing something there and to be honest I'd rather see that in his Universe instead of them potentially carrying it on here now other Easter eggs in the film are that it starts off with an old Ely Warner Brothers cartoon that riffs off the Looney Tunes later on Joker says That's all folks which is how they used to end the show shout out spy pig and a pepy Lew cartoon is later on but hey I thought I
thought you were supposed to be cancelled mate either way it kind of reps the ending of the last film on the Murray show and reimagines Things Different to how they really happened Joker appears transparent here which plays in the idea that nobody sees him there's also a Charlie Chaplain poster calling back to how modern times is used in the prior film the opening also splits Joker in two and has The Confident Persona alongside the bumbling Arthur at Arkham the gods also tell him to put on a happy face which was written on Murray's glass mirror
in the prior film this is something that joker said in Batman '89 and it was the motto for the Smile X advert Arthur also puts on his mother's voice like he hears it which is a kin to Norman baits later Sophie says Penny said her son wouldn't h a fly which is also what Bates imagined his mother saying at the end of Psycho Le also discusses her imagin past and says knock knock your dad's been killed in a car accident which makes Arthur laugh in the first film Arthur told the joke about police knocking at
the door and informing someone their son had been killed by a drunk driver I've got a joke though should call it Joker Folly a poo now we learn later that this is a delusion and that she's really from upstate author also says knock knock when he's admitting that he's just author throughout we also have several Musical songs like for once in my life by Stevie Wonder there's get Happy When the Saints Go Marching In what the world needs now is love and if my friends Could See Me Now we also have going to build a
mountain lace throughout which eventually comes crashing down as Arthur dies now I think one of the big issues with them in the film is that the characters are just singing songs that aren't written for the movie normally in the musical they'll have nothing but original pieces that they've written solely for the film because of this the music helps to tell the story so when the songs are being sung the story is still progressing a lot of the time though they end up stopping the story to sing and because these songs weren't written for the film
it doesn't help with the plot I think the initial songs though they do help to set the mood in tone but then it just keeps going on and on and on uh to the point of being detrimental Gaga is an incredible singer though so it's always nice when she gets to bust into a musical piece but in terms of working in the context of a film I'm not sure if it does now we also have Steve kugan character Patty me is interviewing Arthur which is based on real life ones to me they look a lot
like the ones carried out on Ted Bundy and Bundy represented himself in coure which is something The Joker ends up doing upon reaching the court Arthur also holds up two fingers on each hand making him resemble Richard Nixon we also have his social worker from the first film testifying named Miss Kane this was a nod to Batman co-creator Bob Kane the scenes in front of the curtains of the pair singing is also akin to the sunny and share show at the hour mark Joker imagines being shot in the gut by leeh here and this plays
into the stabbing at the end Joker also imagines hitting the judge with a mallet which is a weapon both he and Holly used in the comics she also mimic several of the things that he did throughout his life in the first film such as going up the stairs and traveling in the elevator when questioning Gary Joker also puts on a cockn axon which is also what he did in the apartment in the first film Arthur also hears laughing throughout the trial which is also clearly in his head this is something he heard during his standard
routine in the first film even though he was bombing later on he imagined performing at poos which was the name of the standup Club from the first film this was the name of the clown John wayang gasi acted as with his face paint also inspiring Joker's design in these films after Arthur is assaulted by the gods we also hear one of the inmat is called bulock which could be a ND to Harvey Bullock guy was in the gcpd though so I don't know if that's the case and it might just be a coincidence Lee then
put some makeup on the mirror kind of the scene of Arthur in his home during the first film later on she also puts a gun to her Temple into how he did when PR practicing his appearance on the Murray Franklin show after the explosion author is saved and help by someone dressed his Joko with him then chasing him down the street this metaphorically shows he's trying to outr run himself and on a symbolic level shows he's attempting to distance himself from that I also wondered if the ending was a reference to The Killing Joke in
that it's implied Batman kills Joker after he tells him a bad joke might not be that but that's all any she eggs I could find and drop them below if you spotted any other ones now as for my thoughts on the film unfortunately I'm in the camp that thinks it sucked a bit now just to give you some context yeah I was actually one of the people who wanted a sequel I know there was people who thought that first film was a perfect stanow movie but I genuinely wanted to see where things could go I'd
have loved to see in a version of this Joker fighting against Batman and that's kind of what I wanted to see happening now back in 2019 we of course had rumors that patson's bat were TI to this but they of course turned out to be untrue I love the way Reeves is taking things but I would have liked to seen another Batman Universe if we could have got it I think with the flash having two Batman well three if you count clo here the studio probably got Batman out and possibly steered them away from doing
anything with the Dark Knight due to them making a billion on that first film getting a best picture nomination and Phoenix getting best actor you can see why they were after a sequel the only issue is here that they definitely didn't have a story here to Warrant it now I know some people think that that's because that there wasn't anything left to tell but I've got like got like hundreds of Batman graphic novels to the side here that dispute that point but Arthur I can see that argument maybe but yeah there's definitely enough material to
make a good one now though I didn't get my Batman I was happy to see they were bringing Harley Quinn because there was a lot of stuff to M there unfortunately what we get in the finished product makes the character feel like somewhat of an afterthought a lot of the character scenes have been cut and she gets little to our development it's infuriating because Gaga could have done something incredible but she p in comparison when put next to Margo Robbie which I never would have thought coming in you know Margo is absolutely fantastic but I
thought go God definitely had a chance of doing an incredible performance I don't think it's Gaga's fa at all either because there's clearly been a lot left out now the reason they hired her was of course because of her singing abilities with this movie basically being a musical if for whatever reason you're watching this without seeing the film just to gauge your expectations and it's about 50% of the film however the scenes just don't work for me which is a shame as I was was actually thinking they might be good along with the sequel idea
I thought a musical was a unique way to take things that we hadn't seen in a comic book movie so yeah I was excited but another L for my expectations cuz it just doesn't deliver the songs aren't good enough to make it good musical and they also get in the way of the dramatic Parts the first film had so many memorable moments where the actors really got to act that's touched upon here and they do get the moments but again now it's just 50% of the movie so I feel like it was a misfire on
a number of fronts and though it was risky the risk didn't pay off what we're left with is a movie that feels unnecessary and it also undoes what was great about the film before it Phillips could have ducked out and taken his critical and financial Acclaim and probably rode his own ticket now though they got paid a lot more to do this I don't think the names here will be the hot properties they were just a couple of years ago Phoenix is obviously going through his own drama after quitting mid production on another movie and
it just feels like they dropped the ball a lot with this I don't think Phillips knows how to make a musical and it's likely this is going to damage the first film I love that and often found myself defending it against people who said it was just a scorey knockoff now it retroactively makes it feel like it was just an imitation and when it doesn't have someone great to copy off it feels like Phillips might fail so yeah as you guys can tell not anamed with the movie and and I feel like it was really
disappointing this is one of my most anticipated comic book movies of the year and yeah to see it drop like this not good should have warned a brother now I do think there will be people who go with the tone more than I did and they'll probably enjoy it it's something that I definitely feel comes down to Personal Taste but unlike that first movie you know it's not going to have that broader appeal even something like the substance recently though yeah I know people who say that's terrible and one of the worst movies they've ever
seen I've also seen some people say it's amazing and I feel like there's going to be that reaction to this as well you're going to have a very divisive film I think it's going to have those that love it but also to those that hate it unfortunately for me I fall to the ladder camp and I think this was a big missed opportunity luckily I'll always have that first film but I don't feel like this is going to be one to go back to anytime soon who's that come in come in just been handed a
