[Music] hi everyone jack hughes here in this short video i'm going to bring to life lead time and cycle time to very useful metrics cycle time is the amount of time between when you start a piece of work and when that work has been completed whereas lead time is the time it takes for a piece of work to make its way through your entire workflow for example the time it takes from ordering something from amazon to it being delivered to your front door would be the lead time still confused don't worry stay with me for
a solid understanding now if you're eating at a restaurant the lead time would be from when someone takes your order to when the food arrives at your table and has been put in front of you it's when you the customer orders something and your mental clock starts ticking cycle time begins when the chef begins work on your order but importantly not when the order reaches the kitchen as with lead time the cycle time ends when the meal is delivered to you the customer if you would like any help understanding these metrics and send me a
