hello this is your professor l Mar Cesar lobs this is our fifth video this is our second video on the book of Acts so let's keep it up with our acts in studying the book of Acts okay uh we finish our last lesson talking about the the Gentiles how the the the importance uh for the Gospel Church to reach the Gentiles and all the architectural uh works of God to make that happens so we will keep it up with our class and I hope you enjoy let's do it so uh it's a demonstrates the extension
of the Gospel to non-jews Gentiles def defending Christianity as an elevation and Improvement of Judaism okay the writer strongly argues that Christianity is not a heretical branch but a noble enhancement of Judaism we already discussed that and uh we stated that uh Christianity is not uh a sect or a cult some people back then they might Tau about that but uh Luke he you were very focused in demonstrate that the Christianity were not an heretical Branch but a very Noble enhancement of Judaism so audience and purpose of the book of Acts we have a lot
cover here and um you have the material the PDF where you can read it okay and you can consult also uh the isal okay and I'm trying to to push as fast as I can but now we are going to talk about the the dating of the book of Acts there's a quite a few considerations okay about the dating okay first absence of pine material the absense of any mention of Paul's letters in Acts indicates that the book uh predates the universal circulation of post letters placing it before the second century okay so what what
it means means that once Luke wrote it he wrote it the books prior before Paul releases okay uh the uh the letters the Epistles that he wrot it to uh many okay so uh there's no reference to the fall of Jerusalem the silence on the fall of Jerusalem in 70 uh led by general tiu or title suggests that acts was written before this significant event that was a prophecy that about the fall of Jerusalem and that happen in 73 okay between 7 and 73 and U there's no record in the book of Acts about the
the fall of Jerusalem so that makes a statement makes us to believe that the the book of Acts was written prior to the fall of Jerusalem uh the book is silent about Paul's death the book lock of mention of Paul's death implies that Paul was still alive when Luke gathered information for acts considering Paul's Death Around 68 acts was likely written before this day that's very important the book of Acts doesn't record doesn't imply doesn't point it does does not have a line about post death so uh most likely the book was were written before
the 68 okay no mention of Nero's persecution well that's strong or so because the Empire Nero he he apply he push a persecution against Christians is starting in 64 indicates that Luke wrote acts before this historical episode okay so that's very important uh in in the process of uh determining the date of the book of Acts acts encompasses a rich narrative with distinctive characteristics three major pillers didactic theological and apologetic let me go back here a little bit okay uh just to make sure most likely our date is around uh of the writing of this
book around 60 to 63 uh we will be comfortable to point that day okay now here just to pointed out some characteristics of the book of Acts the book of Acts encompasses a rich narrative with distinctive characteristics three major didactic theological and apologetic didactic aspects the book of Acts serves didactic purpose okay serves a didactic purpose continuing the intention from Luke 1 verse 1-4 Luke aim to EST strengthen Faith through a orderly account the gospel has a a kind of a narrative about jesus' work acts detail Deeds of the resurrected Christ through the apostles empowered
by the holy spirit this is very important uh so the theological emphasis Luke maintains theological intentions throughout Acts theme of the kingdom of God persists in both books remember the Gospel of Luke is about the kingdom of God he announces the coming of the King Jesus is announced is shown as the king the coming of the king and now in the book of Acts the kingdom of God persists and it's here it's right now there's you see a shift from predominantly Jewish to predominantly Gentile movement reflecting Divine intent here's the thing this is important God
is a great architect God has draw design everything that happened then and that is happening now and look at this because the gospel salvation is to be preach teach to entire world okay they have to move on from uh the Jewish environment and God uses people different people for different situations different circumstances to accomplish his purpose look how beautiful is this you will see as you read the book of Acts a shift from the Judaism from uh the Jews from the culture to the Gentile because this is to be preached to entire world another emphasis
uh theological emphasis that we see here is that we see very clearly the role of the holy spirit in the progress of the Kingdom message of the Kingdom's message there's a very clear I have mentioned a couple of times that once the disciples encounter receive the Fulfillment of the prophecy that they will be filled with with the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit would give them power will Empower them so they might be uh active and fruitful to preaching teaching bringing spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world so acts of the Holy Spirit
through the apostles so you see the emphasis you know Miracles and some healings some the ways uh the word uh were spread in different regions and that is uh something very unique and awesome okay so there is also another component here in the characteristics of the of Acts which is the apologetic emphasis okay the relationship ship of the church with the kingdom of God is very well explored here there is a a this connectivity in this relationship and there's no other way there's no way to to separate uh both because the church uh is not
uh on the on the outside of the kingdom of God but the church is the manifestation of the kingdom of God uh through and with the mankind into the mankind okay the narrative illustrates how the message expanded from predominantly Jewish TR ties is a redundance here but it's important in the context of apologetic emphasis Paul and Barnabas uh like as a pivotal moment in an of P cidan uh you find that in Acts chapter 13 you will see the whole uh Narrative of Paul and Barnabas uh in the Church of anti where they were filled
with the Holy Spirit and they were charged to leave that place and to go to the place that the Lord will guide them in order to preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and also emphasis um uh on the Holy Spirit once again is a kind of a redundance but once we talk apologetically we have to bring this compliment also uh emphasis on the Holy Spirit as a driving force in the global spread of Christianity we are here today and you are listening to me today because of the Holy Spirit driving he drove people
since the beginning and throughout history and you and me we are part of that history and the Holy Spirit is still doing it today oh that's awesome okay throughout the Book of Acts we will see many themes of Jesus teaching continuing uh in Acts there's a kind of a continuation of the teachings of Jesus wouldn't be different because everything is about Jesus okay the prophecy of the church growth in Matthew 1618 Luke uh documentation of church birth and growth okay uh the context and Foundation you can read uh those Bible references there Jesus res Resurrection
as the core once once the Jesus resurrected he has his core okay he has his core to start and to spread uh the gospel the preaching of Salvation uh in Redemption uh from God death resurrection and Ministry in Acts Apostles preaching Center on Jesus all the preaching and teaching of the apostles were completely centered in Jesus Christ was that human centered but Christ Center okay Divine judgment and repentance Jerusalem's destruction uh for told in Luke chapter 21 Apostles urging for repentance in Acts 240 uh so we have this kind of a um continuation of teaching
uh in themes that Jesus addressed and we see the continuation in the book of Acts Kingdom shift to thees uh seems like uh just a repetition but it's important once we uh learn once we revisit the themes of Jesus that goes through the book of Acts Jesus declaration about Israel's Faith uh focus on the kingdom kingdom in Acts Apostolic Ministry confirming uh the shift okay so uh going ahead here uh we have the historical defense of Paul okay acts as apologetic book okay we Contin here in this page uh one of the of Luke's key
objectives uh complement pa okay defenses in Galatians and 2 Corinthians Luke Luke's EMP is on defending Paul's apostleship aligns with Paul's own defense of his apostleship uh in his letters in Galatians Paul addresses his authority as an apostle asserting that his calling is not from men but from God it's so beautiful need once once you read Galatians chapter 1 and you see how the Apostle Paul defends his apostleship he even go and say I Paul call not by mean but by the power the appointment of God that's awesome that's awesome that's huge and uh we
we praise God for that so uh the book of Acts uh comparing power and uh Authority Luke portrayal of Paul and Peter both figures rep represented with equal significance Luke's balanced portrayal of Paul and Peter uh resonates with the biblical principle of equality among Apostles in second Corinthians Paul acknowledges The Authority given uh to him and other Apostles for building up not tearing down no tearing down okay and U so there's there's a comparison uh powers and authority and which Luke makes sure to record uh that the there's equality in the power and authority of
all the apostles okay going further uh here uh still uh he defends apostleship in mission of Paul and the church historical basis is Sly PA position the apologetic uh context in Acts aligns with Paul's defense of his apostleship uh is Nar at uh emphasizing uh his narrative emphasizing his Divine call in in the book of Acts uh chapter 9 was Paul uh has his in encounter with Christ in the road of Damascus remember it's important to remind that he were uh going after the after Christians in the city of Damascus to harass them and to
bring them to the Arenas to be killed by the Gladiator Gladiators and the the beasts in the Arenas in the chapter 9 he accept the Lord the Lord called him and the uh and the prophet anah ananas came to Paul and with the word go for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and Kings and the children of Israel Paul was a guy was a man with the skills with the knowledge of the entire Empire and uh you were known in the Empire because you were remember he were
the the the leader of the Rome of The Emperor's arm in Security in the uh region of Judea in all that region in Israel okay you were the the the the security guy uh today we would say he were the secret servant secret agent of the emperor back then okay acts in apolog book is an apologetic book here we have a table or side by side images of Miracles performed by Peter and Paul okay there's so many miracles there recorded in the book of Acts and I carefully uh put here for you guys to study
uh now they are not into column side by side but uh they first you have here in English okay uh Peter's Miracles and Paul's Miracles okay uh it's worthy I I I I I I will say it again is worthy a big time for you to take time and read this with the Bible verses the context in the Bible it's Rich that not only only will bring knowledge to you but is transformational transform transformative Journey Apostles Paul conversion so we have been talking a little bit about Paul's conversion and I U really make sure that
we have recorded here for your analysis for your study for your growth and uh from a persecutor to an apostle okay uh the significance of Apostles conversion we have uh talk about that a little bit uh but U I just want to remind you these men were very well known throughout the the Empire and in the region and a thing very important is because this man was a uh a Greek he was a Jewish he were a Jew and also he were a Raman uh he has a Tre citizenship he were a Greek because he
the place he were born he was a Jew because of his family ascendants and he were Roman because most likely his father bought a Roman citizenship okay and back then people could buy a citizenship so uh his conversion were very significant to the advancement of the the kingdom of God you are not only literally in the Jewish faith because you were uh a doctor of the law and uh he has a lot of content a lot of knowledge about the Judaism he were he were uh a follower of the law he were a a man
who have the Torah the law of the Jewish people in higher standard and being known everywhere every corner of the Empire God the architect of everything God saw that man that speaks Greek Hebrew Roman and now Roman dialect and the uh maybe another language okay maybe another language uh strategically these men were very important for what he represents prior to become follower of Christ and God from his omniscience he saw in this man that this man could be a vessel as we read before to preach the gospel to the Gentile to spread the gospel to
spread the news that the kingdom of God the Kingdom of Heaven is here these men were strategically the man of God that's awesome mention of Paul's init initial uh opposition to Christianity and his dramatic encounter on the road of Damascus I already mentioned that I don't want to be repeating myself but sometimes I will do it and um a quote from Galatians uh chapter 1 15 and 16 but when God who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me by his grace was pleased to reveal his son in me so that I might
preach him among the Gentiles he has the comprehension he has the understanding of his calling of his appointment and that is awesome so going a further the impact of post conversion the ripple effect of uh uh effect on early Christianity post conversion went beyond a personal transformation he transformed he he he resurface uh the the his time because of the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ emphasis on his unique perspective and skills that bridged the gap between Jewish and Gentile communities that was very important he he did make a of a bridge to bring
the Gentiles to Christianity uh that would not happen on the other way okay a quote from 1 Corinthians chapter 9 20 20 to 22 to the Jew I become like a Jew to win the Jews so as to win those not having the law listen for the to win the Jew he become a Jew you can be because he were to the Gentile he portray himself as a gentile God end that for good and that was a blessing Pauline is then Pauline Epistles has a great significance in in shaping Christian Christian doctrine listen Paul he
were a scholar he was a doctor of the law and not only that but his studies his his capability would correspond today to have a PhD in philosophy you were well prepared God curved this man intellect to use him purposefully okay and Paul Paul all the Paul's Epistles okay has a great significance in shaping Christian doctrine all the Christian doctrine that we have today that we must practice today goes through the teachings and the writings of the Apostle Paul okay okay Paul's contribution to the globalization of Christianity yes I already mentioned because he were a
man of three um world Roman Greek and Jew and that was very helpful um and post conversion uh catalyzed inclusivity uh in Christianity his role in transforming Christianity from a sect within Judaism to be a global Faith uh Romans chapter 11 16 for I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes first to the Jew then to the Gentile you will see we see and we understand what for Paul was very clear that the Gospel of Jesus Christ were not a mother were were
not a a possibility we're not a h a second one but were the were the power of God for bring Salvation and transformation to everyone who believes in Jesus Christ okay let's move forward here okay let's go ahead understanding the mission of the Apostles uh we will see in the book uh of Acts uh about the expansion of uh the uh the mission uh of preaching and spreading the word and is just also a a fulfillment of Matthew 2818 to20 where we have the Great Commission okay commission defined okay the term commission refers to the
act of entrusting assigning or bestowing a duty upon someone okay that it is the Great Commission back then in Matthew 28 so God empowered and Trust assign to the disciples then and to the apostles the power the responsibility to spread the word okay the Great Commission Matthew 28 the passage is commonly known as the Great Commission wherein Jesus instructs his disciples to go and make disciples of all Nations not only Jews not only uh the Romans but all nations this directive serves as a Central [Music] Command Central Command for spreading the teachings of Christianity globally
okay so the essense of the commission to imperative elements emerge from the commission go and make disciples interesting enough uh and I want to point that out out we study this one we St study uh missions but uh it's very important that this go and make disciples is a imperative and this is important meaning imperative and active meaning that as we go we must make disciples it's not only if we go to Africa if we go go to Korea if we go to Brazil or if we go to uh Portland we we we will make
this only if we go no no no as we go as we are going walking leaving all the uh the phases of our life oh moments of our life as we go in with life we must make disciples whoa but to make a disciple is not just for pastors it's not just for deacons it's not just for missionaries no that commission is for everyone to make disciples including you okay these directives underscore the active and intentional nature of the disciples Mission urging them to engage with people from All Nations and guide them toward becoming followers
of Jesus Christ I'm so excited when I I I I revisit uh this stuff you know key insights from Matthew 28 discipleship is a vital role okay the concept of discipleship is highlighted as indispensable in the life of the church uh and every Christian this is something indispensable okay it implies an Ono process of learning growth and commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ this underscores the transformative power of discipleship in shaping individuals and communities with the Christian faith as we go as you go we pay disciple we must make disciples okay well the Great
Commission is a biblical p uh a Biblical perspective on on Great Commission the Great Commission in Matthew uh and parall parallely uh in Acts 18 okay there's a parallel I'm not going to don't worry you read it later you read it on your material there's a parallel between Matthew 28 and Acts chapter 1st verse 8 there Jesus makes a promise in Acts 28 is a also a promise the the uh This Promise is reminded okay and Acts chapter 2 there's the Fulfillment of the promise with the power for everyone to really make disciples um the
Great Commission is great in its Authority because we operate under the authority of the Lord and Power by the Holy Spirit it is great in its multiplicative effect because uh it's great because it will multiply the kingdom of God you are here today and I am here because of the Great Commission because back them sometime resp respond to the calling to the Great Commission and we still need to uh respond to that uh calling and to that assignment the Great Commission still biblical p perspective it is a grade for its geographical scope yeah Acts chapter
8 uh several times Jesus himself Limited his ministry and order the apostles to limit their Ministry to the Jews here he opens the Spectrum and Embraces the whole world in the commission to make disciples of all Nations we find the heart of the world mission we are here to be empowered to make disciples of the whole world in this class we we have people from Brazil in the school we have people from many nations and this word of God this gospel is being preached is being teach throughout the world and throughout the years and generations
and will be in generations to come okay and you are part of this be prepared it is a grade for its extension to all aspects of Life Jesus called us to teach yeah Jesus call us to teach others to observe all that he commanded yes this mandate includes all of humanity and more than that implies not only teaching but practicing this Commandments we are called to teach but here's the thing you can only teach and impact what we with what you have with what is already transformed your life Paul and the disciples and the apostles
they were effective because they were transformed by the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and I charge you to allow that power transform your life too it is a great commission for its extension in time yeah that just seal what we are talking about here now the Great Commission is a the extension of the preaching the teaching ing of the Gospel throughout the Nations and throughout time years decades centuries Millennials we are here preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ just fulfilling what the Lord charge its church back back then so every Pastor in every
church that engages in discipleship according to the example of Jesus lays the foundation for a movement that will flow from their Church to All Nations until the consummation of the ages your part of this last days Church preaching consummation and discipleship movement now I brought here and we're not going to go over but just a a chronology of the book of Acts since the Ascension of Jesus Christ in the year 33 all all the way okay to Paul's second missionary journey uh in the year 49 maybe to 52 uh then we go all the way
through the Paul in house arrest in Rome and preaching and the year 61 62 and uh where Paul wrote uh filimon uh Colossians Ephesians and Philippians okay so go ahead take your time and take a look on the chronology of the book of Acts that's it for us today I hope you enjoy and I want to encourage you please do not despair do not lose heart just go with a video with the PDFs with the PDF presentation and do your paper take your time and I want you to reflect and to allow God use your
