from Tokyo to New York to Toronto to London the world is full of brilliant cities but did you know that new cities are being built all the time 100 years from now the world may look very different indeed these are 20 amazing future cities currently being built [Music] number 20 Island City South China Sea the trouble with this one straight off the bat is that it's not simply a nation building a new city and making it all extra shiny it's actually a city that could cause an international incident these are the plans that China has
been developing to build a new Island City right smack in the middle of the South China Sea but this is disputed territory and frankly it's a super aggressive move and has caused all kinds of international concern the current city of sansha is the place that China currently claims to be its southernmost point and it says that it now plans to develop the islands of Woody Island tree iset and Drummond iset into what it calls a national key strategic service and Logistics base this kind of posturing is nothing new from China but it does cause quite
the bit of an issue to build a massive military facility in the middle of this area is a very clear aggressive move the South China Sea is one of the busiest Maritime traffic areas in the whole world and as such it is of huge importance globally China has plans to expand into its territory and reinforce their presence there and it would allow the Chinese Navy Coast Guard and Maritime flotilla to refuel and restock ammunition extremely quickly and therefore redeploy even faster that's of great concern for the International Community but in particular the United States who
does not like this move at all not sure whether this future city is actually amazing but its results could be pretty impactful that much is true before we go on like this video smash the Subscribe button and click the notification Bell right now or this centipede will crawl on your face when you're sleeping number 19 floating city China next up we have another Chinese City that's called causing a stir a different sort but people are paying attention this is the proposed plan for a floating city that includes underwater streets that can be used by submarines
and a whole cityscape that would be literally Beneath the Sea it sounds kind of crazy well it is the basic plan for the city was drawn up in 2015 and it proposes a city created from a prefabricated concrete body that would measure 150 M long and 30 m in width the whole thing would be all the way out in in the ocean and would have its very own cruise ship terminal as well as a marina for normal boats and naturally a dock for civilian submarines because who doesn't have their own personal submarine these days something
smells a tiny bit fishy about this one now doesn't it especially in the light of the first Chinese Island that we saw today and so as well as all that boat stuff it seems that the plan included ideas for making the city self-sufficient with farms and hatcheries as well as all the rubbish collection yeah yes this all makes perfect sense under the flipping ocean I mean why the heck not sanity is no longer a requirement in urban planning or alleged sustainability or whatever cobblers gets passed around when people come up with these ridiculous ideas just
stop it the sea does not want nor does it need your stupid poisonous City no number 18 the line Saudi Arabia back in 2021 the Saudi government unveiled some pretty outlandish looking plans for a self-sufficient city called the line it doesn't sound all that crazy until you see that the city is actually built of two parallel skyscrapers and they reach 160 m long this banana sounding scheme is part of the city of neom the line is supposed to incorporate a whole cityscape within the two massively long structures they're designed to be 656 ft wide 1,640
ft high and stretch for a crazy 100 6 Mi across the desert this measurement would not only make them the longest by a huge margin of any skyscraper in the world it would also make them amongst the tallest the line would be set to reach all the way across the northwest of the country of Saudi Arabia up near the Red Sea that's all pretty far out there but the Aesthetics of this proposed design are also so futuristic that it really kind of hurts the structure is set to be covered in mirrors so that it reflects
all the desert landscape around it and presumably fries every ant that walks within a 50-m radius it's also supposed to be capable of housing 9 million people and has everything that a city of that size would need but future style I mean the place looks like the Jetson live there they're flying taxis and robot Maids as well as a whole bunch of unnatural nature features like parks and waterfalls I mean this is the desert after all oh and just in case this wasn't already completely insane they also planed to add an artificial moon what the
heck number 17 biodiversity Malaysia with a gimmicky name and a shedload of concrete what could possibly go wrong this is the plan for the biodiverse city it is the result of a competition held by the government of the state of panang in Malaysia to design a floating city and this is what the Architects came up with it is an archipelago City that's built from three large artificial Islands designed to be built on so-called green concrete stilts because as they like to emphasize the place is designed to be eco-friendly of course nothing would ever dare to
go around saying that it was anything except sustainable and recycled these days otherwise it would never be built but the trouble is the building of stuff is still a process that uses things up and it creates waste and ultimately renders old stuff Obsolete and therefore also wasteful this is the perennial problem for all of these alleged sustainable Industries in order to sustain themselves they need to emphasize that they're all recycled and shiny and wholesome when in reality all production is still part of a wider system that is about growth and infinite growth on a planet
with finite resources is just bad math number 16 changdu future City China next up we have another Chinese plan for a future city this is changdu future city and it's actually a plan to make the capital of China Sichuan Province car-free the design is focusing on the existing geography of the place involving a 4.6 Square km area that is being developed to the east of the city of changdu the idea is that they'll create six sort of villages that resemble traditional settlements and these zones will blend seamlessly with the existing environment crazy really that the
most modern and revolutionary thing that's happening in the world of Architecture is looking back to to traditional ways of living in order to get ideas perhaps all the modern stuff isn't always the answer after all anyways this series of zones will each have their own educational facilities each their own Innovation stuff as well as all the usual housing and government facilities and Commercial junk they're proposed to be car-free and will be designed so that all areas are accessible on foot within a 10-minute time frame then in addition to the spaces themselves being walkable they'll all
be connected to the main city by a so-called smart Mobility Network number 15 acon City Sagal acon city is a planned city in Sagal it has not yet been built but the hype about it has been fairly substantial that is because the brains behind the project is Aon a sagales American singer and entrepreneur who announced the plan back in 2018 he was inspired by Black Panther the movie and a set that acon City will be like a real life wakanda the thing is though Aon is also super into cryptocurrency and he has his own called
aoin a big part of that plan for Aon city is that it will use the latest technology especially blockchain and cryptocurrency because of course it will it all seems real legit the plan city is going to include all the condos and offices you would expect a crypto City to have as well as a university a hospital parks and an Ocean Resort because last time you were here you saying that acon city was supposed to open in 202 sounds nice but unfortunately despite being on the cards for some time now no work has begun yet to
break ground and now there's a lawsuit coming up the works can nobody build an imaginary City and make a bunch of fake money without getting into litigation anymore jeez number 14 TSA now the next city in the aray of future places is planned to be deposited in the middle of the desert between Nevada Arizona and Utah sounds kind of dry this is the brainchild of a billionaire because of course it is by the name of Mark lore who has decided he wants to own a whole effing City so he'll just simply build one is it
just me or all the billionaires gradually colonizing everything and we haven't noticed yet anyways toosa city is allegedly going to be one of those extremely trendy sounding sustainable places a 15minute city which means that everywhere in the whole place is accessible within a 15-minute walk they say that cars will not be necessary there and the design will be focused on pedestrians and cycling however you may need a car to escape the Stepford Wife scenario in the middle of the desert though the whole city is planned to be run entirely on renewable energy like solar panels
and water treatment plants that will be be equipped to use water with care and cars will not be the main focus of the layout people who want to live there have to register their interest it seems that it may be an exclusive sort of selection process but who could possibly say number 13 woven City Japan now we have a brand new future city that's actually under construction this is woven city which is being developed by the Toyota Motor Corporation at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan they say that the opportunity to build a whole
city from the ground up is a great chance to weave in all the modern and most useful Technologies connecting people and buildings and of course Vehicles it sounds kind of creepy and controlling but hey that is smart technology all over now isn't it the city itself although highly connected and Tech in many respects will also be made using traditional Japanese building techniques and materials so many of the structures well actually be made out of wood but the skills of the people will be replaced by industrial robots that seems very Japanese somehow there will be solar
panels and lots of green spaces woven into the environment along with sensors everywhere and a bunch of tech which allows connectivity at every level but I don't know this smart technology it kind of just gives me the wiggin number 12 new administrative Capital Egypt Kyo is just getting too old and busy and loud and full of all those people so in their Infinite Wisdom the powers that be in Egypt have decided that they don't want all the hassle of that crowded commute anymore they're moving the administrative center from the grime of the city but instead
of picking another place with infrastructure and I don't know houses for the people that work there they've decided that the best option is to build an entirely brand new smart administrative City in the desert that seems like the best use for tax dollars that I can think of but anyways this is the new capital and it's proposed to accommodate between 188 million and 40 million people by the year of 2050 they say that they're proposing to create many new employment opportunities and new housing which Egypt definitely needs it's never increasing an overpopulated Place Cairo has
been massively under pressure from all the population that it has experienced in recent decades and this plan looks to improve the quality of life for all of the people that live in the new capital it still doesn't have a name but stuff has been happening here at the site which is 28 Mi to the east of Cairo the plans include a large Park some Lakes about 2,000 schools colleges and all the technology and Innovation centers along with a diplomatic quarter business district Cultural District Administrative district 18 hospitals over 1,000 mosques and other places of worship
it will also have a massive Stadium a theme park a 40,00 th000 hotel room solar farm and an electric Railway woo it's nothing if not ambitious number 11 liberland metaverse now this one's just extra weird it's actually a completely Virtual City so can we actually say that it exists at all this is the liberland metaverse whatever that means and it's the construction of an architecture studio in the metaverse the so called cyber urban city allows people to buy plots of land by spending cryptocurrency and they can then hang around in buildings as an avatar I
don't really get it but perhaps you can help me to understand go on and have a go at me in the comments section down below I know you want to number 10 floating city the malds the region in and around the Indian Ocean is a beautiful plethora of culture and history with over a thousand Coral Islands featuring Lush beaches and coral reefs it's only natural that they would capitalize on the tourism industry while slagging to the almighty dollar one unique Concept in development is a sustainable Urban Development designed to address the challenges posed by climate
change in the form of a so-called floating city the idea emerged as a response to the changing of the planet and the rise in sea levels on average the Maldives has a ground level of less than 5 ft above sea level this makes the the coastline vulnerable to erosion Rising Waters and the destruction of their natural coral reefs so in an effort to sustain the environment in and around it while also furthering the population the floating city is proposed as the solution this would essentially be a network of interconnected floating platforms designed to be environmentally
sustainable while also utilizing renewable energy sources like solar and wind power the modular design would provide flexibility to the changing Environmental conditions while also being resistant to Rising Tides catastrophic weather events and encroachment by hipsters and millionaires who destroy a natural habitat with her industrialization and colonization just like history has shown time and again number nine amaravadi India in southeast India a massive 217 Square km section of Farmland along the Krishna river is undergoing a transformation the newly proposed cap Capal city is envisioned to be amongst the world's most sustainable cities the center of this
Vision includes a 5 1/2 km long by 1 km wide green spine inspired by Central Park in New York City alongside this will be solar powered buildings cycling routes electric vehicles Water Taxis an irrigation system that uses recycled water and shaded trees to encourage people to get out and walk around and all for the measly price of $6.5 billion a steel at twice the price as is the usual modus operandi of any capitalist organization bent on making as many dollars as possible they had to acquire the land this would prompt the initiation of a land
pooling scheme in 2015 whereby Farmers contributed land for developed plots under the promise of receiving 25 to 30% back equipped with essential amenities and of course the government successfully secured most of the needed Land by January of 2017 but at least they decided to upgrade the existing structures and the land rather than demolishing it and they probably saved a few dollars in doing so this is seen an influx of 30,000 residents which includes 12,000 government employees who have relocated to the city and as the development is said to eventually create over 400,000 jobs and of
course there's the commitment to sustainability which involves covering at least 60% of its area with green space and water with an emphasis on nature water consumption and energy production concerns about social sustainability have also been raised and as the city takes shape it leaves a lot of questions about preserving everyday life in a rapidly growing and planned Urban environment number eight new santara Indonesia it's becoming a weird Trend to try and build future cities and Innovative places for people to be around Islands but at the same time it also kind of makes sense with an
emphasis on the threats of climate change and the way the planet is Raging around it it may be a plausible solution to begin from the outside and work your way in new Sentara is a geographical concept centered around the vast archipelago in Southeast Asia but it also holds significant historical cultural and Maritime importance famous for its already existing Rich biodiversity vibrant cultures and historical trade routes imagine like the Washington Mall right so it's going to be a mall right there within the new city the Indonesian government has set an ambitious Target to relocate up to
about 1.9 million people to new sentura by 2045 with an eventual estimated cost of around $35 billion but the government has also committed to investing only about 20% of that required funds on the flip side though the government asserts that new Sentara aims to be the first city in Indonesia to achieve 100% renewable energy adoption by the year 2045 that success will likely depend on overcoming various challenges which includes infrastructure development financial commitments and addressing potential environmental repercussions as it progresses number seven net City China when a massive Corporation unveils a master plan that involves
living arrangements and smart technology we should all probably ask at at least a few questions are we still to become worker drones in huge billionaire owned spy cities where our every move is monitored and recorded who does this sort of tech actually help in the long run to whom does your data actually belong anyways I shall be over here wearing my tinf foil hat and pondering these questions as we have a closer look at yet another Chinese planned city this is a new District that has been proposed in shenzen by one of China's largest internet
companies the city is named net City and it proposes that it will be an interconnected space of Office Buildings residential areas and entertainment spaces along with parks and a waterfront all joined up by that smart Tech that we're hearing so much about these days they say that they want to create a community that is active 24 hours a day the worker drone idea is slowly being introduced Now isn't it naturally they're all shrouding all that Tech stuff in a notion of sustainability and human Centric spaces without cars as is the fashion number six lizal Forest
City China now for another Chinese Wonder City where this time we're in the forest and apparently building cities in the middle of the trees it all makes sense we've all trashed all the other places so why not expand into the remaining Beauty spots this is apparently being called the world's first for Forest City but it should be noted that plenty of people have lived in harmony with the forests of the world over many many Millennia and that's just because people have not built all sorts of gross shiz in there it doesn't mean that there have
not been human habitations cities of sorts and they all existed in the forest before remarkably this is being touted as a positive thing it will they claim be a way to combat air pollution and also they say will be the key to redefining our relationship with nature well I'm sure that completely transforming a natural ecosystem and filling it with loads of human-made stuff not to mention people oh and all that transportation and construction that a project like this will require will have nothing but a positive impact on the forest sure they bang on about how
sustainable it is and how it's all biodiversity and all that junk but it's essentially a colonization of an already existing natural environment that has its own biodiversity and will definitely be affected by the introduction of the city this is quite possibly a really dumb idea but who am I to judge number five oceanics Busan South Korea next up we have a plan for when the sea levels rise and people are literally made homeless from the floods great this is South Korea's Oceanic Busan it's a prototype of a floating city that will be equipped with the
ability to adapt to the rising Waters and will house climate refugees they plan to have it all ready for 2030 which is I believe the moment in time when it will be too late to make a difference to climate change H how convenient this my friends may be a good idea but it's also a huge and stinking example of the disaster capitalism this is an exploitation of and therefore total disinterest in the effects and potential reduction of global warming there is a buck to be made when it all goes to hell and so it's okay
to allow it to all go to hell and be there waiting with the solution when it does cynical well not as cynical as all the corporations that are accelerating the irreversible effects of climate change in order to enrich themselves the scumbags number four King Abdullah economic City Saudi Arabia this is another one of those planned cities in Saudi Arabia most of them in the desert do tend to be unless they're super old and developed organically that's the thing with building stuff where there's no obvious place for it to be many areas of the desert do
not have any naturally occurring water sources and the infrastructure required to support a city has to be entirely planned and built this city was announced back in 2005 by King Abdullah Bin abdulaziz as one of the mega projects that Saudi Arabia is so fond of creating in fact there were six of these Mega projects announced during that same year but only this one actually took off it was proposed as an enormous and world changing place like all of these things that we've been looking at tend to be but in the end it did not become
quite the grand scheme as was originally planned the city had failed to attract the sort of Investments that they had anticipated and it did not become a major manufacturing and logistic Center by 2018 the population was a fairly feeble 7,000 so much for all that Bluster number three the orbit Canada a big shiny new Railway is coming to this town in Ontario and there's now a perfect opportunity for investment or exploitation as it will be transformed from a farway rural Town into a suburb in Easy Rail Link of Toronto marvelous so much money to be
made this is the orbit a project that's entirely based on the railway station that will link it to downtown Toronto it will be located in the town of innisville Ontario and will be a hugely ambitious project that will transform the area until it becomes unrecognizable it's designed to support the growth in population and limit car traffic there's also a lot of boasting about all the Cutting Edge technology that will be liberally scattered all over the place and naturally the entire thing is intensely sustainable they're even including plans for drone ports and self-driving cars as well
as all the connectivity of smart streets and buildings that we've seen elsewhere huh cool number two Nevada Smart City United States here we have another billionaire Jeffrey Burns who's decided that he wants to develop a big bit of the Nevada desert into one of those so-called smart cities with all the blockchain cryptocurrency oh yeah he's a crypto guy so it all seems to make perfect sense for the rest of us we will incubate Concepts dealing with clean water and energy the site is called Innovation Park and it's nudged right up against the massive hips of
other big hitters in the tech industry you know like Google and apple and Tesla and all those guys and so Jeff Fancy's a piece of that Desert Tech action for his company blockchains cool name Jeff the vague idea is that it will be a city/ business/ residential Community it sounds neat especially when the guy at the helm just got lucky flogging off his ether tokens before they totally tanked and became worthless awesome I definitely want to live here don't you number one Helsinki bunker City Finland so we've seen all kinds of possible Eco cities of
various smart cities for billionaires and all of those crazy schemes that seem to dwell in the minds of optimists but this next one is firmly rooted in the fear of the Apocalypse oh how absolutely fun yes this is finland's Bunker City Helsinki the capital of Finland is one of the major places in the world that operates an absolutely enormous underground fac facility in case of nuclear war there are also swimming pools and um children's playground in fact Helsinki has no less than 5500 bunkers and that's actually enough space to hold the entire population of the
city at 1.3 million this is not because they're just way more paranoid than the rest of us it's because Russia's right next door Finland even used to be part of the Russian Empire all the buildings here that are over 1200 sare M have to be designated bomb shelters and there's the huge collection of bunkers in the capital there's also a bit of everything down there from churches to assembly rooms even art galleries it's a surprising and ever so slightly terrifying glimpse into the reality of living next door to Russia should we all begin burrowing now
well that's all from the realm of future cities which one of these impressed you the most let me know all about it in the comments down below be sure to check out the other cool things showing up on the screen and I will see you next time
