I THINK I'VE BEEN RIPPED OFF. IS IT A STEINBERGER?

[music] Okay, Mark Johnson, the iconic sight and sound. I had mentioned in a video about Steinberger, whether it was just a travel guitar, about getting my Steinberger in a couple. It's here, but I have some questions about it.

Maybe you could help me in the comments below. It says Steinberger. The measurements are Steinberger.

Um, it says EMG. I've listened to them. Um, they sound really good to be honest.

Very clear uh in the sense of uh tonality. Uh, [snorts] here on the neck, Steinberger USA N7120. So, you know, if it's a it's a fake, they've gone to a lot of trouble to put that on there.

But [snorts] this, I know, is not Steinberger. That should just say Steinberger on there. [snorts] At least my spirits say Steinberger on it.

Maybe maybe Steinberger's have that on there, but I don't think so. Like when I say Steinberger or Spirit, I mean the real Steinburgger versus the Squire line of Steinberger, which is called Spirit. The names on there, it looks correct.

So, can you help me out here? I'm stringing it. Um, that's my next step.

Then I'll let you hear it. Uh, I'll run it through my system and put a music file on the on the uh in the video rather and let you hear what it sounds like. This is also not what I'm used to when it comes to Steinberger.

It's got screws back here, grub screws back here to clamp the string down, but then it's got I don't know what you call that. Clamps. Yeah, clamps that come on many Floyd Rose systems.

Steinberger doesn't use these because the string falls into a slot and it's trapped there. When you tune it up, it becomes trapped rather. Um, so the question becomes, have they changed?

My my understanding is st Steinberg no longer making guitars except for the Spirit brand uh model. This looks like something you would buy and put on a guitar. It's got the truss rod adjustment down here though.

Okay, let me know. I'll put on the strings. I'll let you watch that.

Maybe that will be some fun. We'll see. The fret feel really nice.

Um, the ends don't feel great. So, let me do something about that. I don't know if I have what I need.

Let's see. Um, let's say let's start with this. I got Ernie Ball.

custom gauge. Uh these are 42 to 9. That's what I prefer.

Actually, I prefer I get um String Joy has a package that has a larger a larger gauge. And I'll show what it is. I think it's 48 or I can't say for sure, but it's nice to have that larger ENA string.

Um, but I do love Ernie Ball custom gauge super slinkies. Um, now something interesting about this. See if I can show this.

This may have been sitting somewhere for a bit. You can see that right there. The rust.

So, I I think I've got a fake, which I think is I don't know why that's legal. How can someone sell a fake? Some of you might out there might say, "Well, why would you buy a fake?

" I didn't know it was a fake. Maybe it's just someone put together a bunch of Steinberger parts. I don't know.

The B everything screams Steinberger. Uh like the pickups are just wonderful. Hold.

Okay, good job. Let's move on. 11.

Let's see. Here we go. If you've never seen this before, it's kind of cool.

I don't have enough room yet. So, there's a grub screw back here. You just back it out.

Is it backing out? There we go. Then you put the 11 string 11 gauge B I mean down through and you pull so it's nice and tight.

While you're pulling you put the grub screw back in with your Sorry about rocking rocking the rope there. Okay. And then give it one turn.

Not even a turn, just a tighten it up with your wrench in that orientation. Okay. You got this stuff hanging over the edge, but you clip that really close.

Okay, let's do the G string. We'll fast through fast forward through this. Okay.

So, what I'm doing here is I'm taking my Greensteinburgger. I'm removing the best parts of it because it the guitar itself has some issues. And I'm using the best parts of the Greensteinburgger and replacing the parts of the white Steinberger that I don't care for.

Which brings me to this point right here, the bridge. Um, the white Steinberger bridge is just not as good as the Green Steinberger bridge. So, there's the old one or the white one.

And here's the one that came off the Green Steinberger. Um, [snorts] I I kind of antiqu it, gave it a rustic look, and now I'm taking off the nut off the Green Steinberger to put it on the Steinberger. Hope all this is making sense.

It's a pretty easy thing to do. There's two uh screws that hold it on and that's it. Um, so yeah, I'm removing it.

And I believe the next thing I'm going to do is lubricate the the bridge that I'm going to put on the white Steinberger. Yeah, there it is. I've taken apart the bridge.

I'm going lubricate it. Um it's already moved smoothly, but if I'm going to take the bridge off, I'm going to take the time to lubricate the insides of it. The grease was kind of getting gunky gunky.

And that is the official term. Now, this wheel right here, that is the wheel that the trimmolo system attaches to to create a fixed bridge situation. So, you can use either the trimmolo floating up and down or you can engage that switch and you've got a fixed bridge, which is just ingenious.

Parker has a similar system. Uh, I had a Parker fly at one time. I loved it.

Got rid of it because I'm stupid. Got rid of a thousand bucks. Now they're going for four and 5,000.

Just tightening up the screws on this bridge and I'm going to install it, which I don't think I show that, but it's just it's hard to do, but it's just two posts that that it rests on and a spring that kind of uh you adjust the tension so that it stays in tune. There's the adjustment um dial or knob. I'm not sure what you would call that.

The saddles haven't been put in place yet. Um but you can see the the worn look, which I really like. Now, these are the old Steinberger knobs or the white Steinburgger knobs.

I'm going to replace those with the worn ones from the green Steinberger. Here we go. We are putting in the strings.

Uh I had to take off the strings of course to to change over the bridge at the in the nut. Tuning it. Such a simple system.

Super simple. Anybody who has a Steinberger, you know it's a brilliant system. The dual ball system.

Okay, here's the old the green Steinberger bridge on the white Steinberger. The saddles have been put in place and they've been engineated. The MGs, the worn knobs, and there's the That's the um White Steinberger.
