Today we are going to talk about relief on the continent African, so stay tuned and don't jump not even a part and we go to the vignette.
The relief of the African continent is characterized the predominance of immense trays, that means few high plateaus. And a considerable average altitude 700 meters. The central and northern regions are occupied in its entirety by immensely plateau eroded, consisting of very old rocks and limited by major exhaust.
20 million years ago Africa was part of it, along with South America, from the supercontinent of Gondwana. The separation formed the Atlantic Ocean and isolated the two continents that still have some similarities of geological structures and in its relief formation. To the north there is a wide plateau area and desert.
The Sahara extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea. The largest rock formation in this area is the Tibesti Mountains in Chad, and where the culmination of this region is located which is Emi Koussi which is 3415 meters long. Beyond the desert is the Chain of the Atlas that occupies the northern region of Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.
Its recent formation features mountains, whose peaks reach 4 thousand meters high. In this region the subsoil has significant oil reserves, natural gas, uranium, iron and phosphate. In addition to representing great importance for local geography, as it stops wet winds which thus favor the formation of temporary rivers.
In the east of the continent is one of the its most striking physical characteristics, a geological fault extending from the north to the south, the great Rift Valley, a tectonic crack that happens in several mountains, that has even volcanic origin and great depressions. The great Rift, an expression that can be translated for the great rift, it is a complex of immense valleys, volcanoes and rolling plains. It appeared when a column of glowing larvae paved the way under Africa for millions years.
When the entire region rose by almost two thousand meters, cracks appeared on its banks, and these cracks are now home to giant lakes. The largest lakes are located in this region the continent, surrounded by high mountains, stand out Mount Kilimanjaro which has 5,895 meters high, and it is also the most high in Africa. We still have Mount Kenya, which has 5,199 meters high, we still have Mount Ruwezonri, which is 5,109 meters high.
To the south there are plateaus where they deserve to be highlighted the Drkensberg Mountains, which are in Africa of the South, with few high peaks above three thousand meters, but that are enough to stop wet winds coming from the ocean Indian and thus forming a milder climate. Along the coast of the continent lies coastal plains, which are quite vast, and the plains occupy smaller areas in the highlands and we can mention here the plains of Niger, and also the plains Congo. Africa does not have many islands around around, we can mention here the archipelagos São Tomé and Príncipe and Cape Verde, which are located in the Atlantic Ocean.
In the Indian Ocean, there is a large island that is the island of Madagascar, and also the shorter islands, than the islands are reduced, we have the island of Comoroes, Mauritius and Seychelles.
