In total, at the end of the day, we will have covered 4,550km from São Paulo.
Our day has already started spectacularly! In addition to the open sky, a family of dolphins came to show off while we had our delicious breakfast at the hotel's restaurant! There were about four in one group and about four in the other.
They were apart. Look if it's not a dolphin! You sometimes see the broth!
Drnk coffee with a dolphin. Marcio, you were a beast too. That was programmed, you know?
Thank you, Marcio. You're welcome. We packed our bags, loaded the vehicles and got ready to leave!
What did you do with your spare tire there, Fabião? A fabiada! I hit the roof with the spare tire!
It happens, it happens! Fueling up the cars to be able to leave for Hornopirén! Hornopirén is gone!
We are starting the Carretera! There is our hotel! Kilometer zero of Carretera Austral was right in front of our hotel!
Look, there are Centolha empanadas! Hey! Let's have a little bit!
Shrimp, oyster, octopus empanadas! Uh, I like them all! After 48 km, we arrived at Caleta La Arena, where we would board the ferry to Puelche.
Filled the raft. It's already leaving. So everyone goes together next time!
First ferry on the Carretera Austral! We are on Ruta 7, leaving Puerto Montt, heading to Hornopirén. Just look!
This is the third ferry of the expedition. We left Puerto Montt and took the first ferry. We are heading towards Hornopirén!
The ferry was much smaller than the one in Chiloé, but it also had an indoor area with a small cafeteria. We know this American who left New Jersey and was on the road alone for 8 months driving his motorcycle. We disembarked and the atmosphere was totally different.
The emotion of entering Patagonia Verde is indescribable! And we felt very, very far from home! Some sections of the Carretera Austral were under construction.
No car! He's talking like a sheep, why? Because it's shaking!
Talking like a sheep! It was almost 1 o'clock in the afternoon and we were hungry. We went through 2 villages, looking for all the previously mapped restaurants, but everything was closed.
I have a few more restaurants mapped down the road, ok? There's one in 30 minutes. Let's see if it's open.
. . Wow, it doesn't look like there's a living soul here!
Look, empanada, seafood. . .
closed. Closed! There's a Pepsi flag, the menu on the front, but it's closed.
Finally, at 2 pm, we found a house in a village called El Manzano where a nice couple served different types of empanada! Wow, this is delicious! Delight?
You are kind enough to welcome the group. They're making all the empanadas from scratch. From the pasta.
. . Is there only here in Chile?
Yes yes! It was our salvation! All freshly prepared and with fresh local ingredients.
I'm going to eat an empanada de sierra ahumada con queso Sierra is a smoked fish in the smokehouse here in the backyard of the house. Fantastic! Are you okay there, Edna?
Good, but this one is not the smoked one. This one is salmon. What's up, Ju?
What is this one? Mine is cheese. Satisfied, we continued the journey.
A few kilometers further on, we arrive at the Pichicolo hot springs, with pools with hot volcanic waters! Minutes before, in a brief moment of distraction, Hiro's Ranger ended up crashing into the back of Ciça's Triton. The dent in the Ranger's bumper was successfully repaired with the tools we were carrying!
Now let's enjoy the pools with hot volcanic waters! Wow, there are some that sink here! There are heavy ones!
The Pichicolo hot springs had a very good structure! The ticket gives you access to the changing rooms and the numerous thermal water pools. For those who do not want to enter the pools, it is possible to enter as a path, paying a lower fee.
Each pool was supplied with water of different temperatures. This one we were in was less frequented, as the temperature was over 40 degrees! Too hot?
It's hot! The chilblains are already dead. Dude, that cooks an egg!
Oh, what a delight! Get in here, Cica. Here it is cold!
Enter Ciça! I am unable! Holy Mary!
People are wearing slippers! Relaxed and refreshed, we continued our journey towards our destination for the day: Hornopirén. The path was of magnificent beauty!
The Carretera Austral surprised us at every turn! Wow, look at this, people! The city of Hornopirén is located on the edge of a fjord, and owes its name to the Hornopirén volcano of 1570 meters, which in 2008 erupted reaching the city.
We checked in at the inn, the welcoming Hosteria Antupirén. As it was still early, we went for ice cream at a famous artisanal ice cream shop in town. Wow, it's crowded huh?
There were very different flavors, with ocalafate, a kind of local berry. Wow, queue! What madness!
Panettone, rum raisins with liqueur! What is the best seller? Caulker, but it's over.
Only tomorrow. The blackberry is like the fruit, there are no dyes or flavorings. Thank you very much!
It looks like sorbet. She said it's a real sorbet. The owner of the ice cream shop took a photo of our group for the mural, maybe some traveler visiting the area will be able to find our photo!
What are you eating there, Renatão? It is good there? By the way looks good, huh?
You're just laughing, right? Blackberry, we chose blackberry! Too bad we can't taste Calafate.
Look, it's a good thing we turned to the side of the mountain you liked best, right? The next stop was to watch the sunset in a spectacular valley with a river of water in a clear blue hue that we had never seen before. And so ended the perfect first day on the fantastic Carretera Austral!
We couldn't wait to continue our journey! I wrote: it was great! The next day awaited us with a lot of natural beauty!
A ferry crossing of more than 4 hours through a corridor of Patagonian fjords, the beautiful continuation of the Carretera Austral and a black sand beach close to Chaiten. Don't miss out. Help Dakar Overland grow by liking the video and subscribing to our channel.
