description and top comment below sign up for my free masterclass tons of free training lots of students in there a great community and let's get into the topic for today to make money with affiliate marketing you need a keyword first approach based on search intent so affiliate marketing works a lot better on search platforms like Google and YouTube where people actually search for things that they want to buy rather than passively scrolling on things like Instagram so first we have to start with that so affiliate marketing starts with keywords and they really start only with one type of keyword that includes the word best so best signifies that somebody is thinking of something you want to compare products best laptops best credit cards and all of that so whether it's YouTube or blogging you need to create transactional content around these keywords so I'm going to put in the word like best and then think of a niche like there's any type of physical products things on Amazon I'm going to put in like best guitar and then I what I would do is use this tool ahrefs which is an SEO tool I would go you know by itself it looks like it's pretty competitive for that keyword but I go to matching terms and see what it comes up with and then I can see like there's a lot of different opportunities here and this is kind of you know validating your Niche so it's looking at the difficulty how hard it is to rank on Google for these keywords and then the volume so how many times it searched per month so we can see like there's a lot of opportunities here for easy keywords best beginner electric guitar best acoustic guitar for beginners lots of different things around guitar so you can start a music blog or a music YouTube channel and review products that way let's do another example and I'll do best gardening so let's say you want to start an outdoor YouTube channel or blog something like that well let's take a look so there are a good number of good opportunities here in the 20s but really when I look at it the search volume is not super high and when I think about it there's not a ton of you know products in gardening you need like seeds you need the tools to do gardening maybe some books and things like that they're more like indoor hydroponic gardening systems are more expensive affiliate products but this one is good the opportunities are good but it's a little bit limited so let me put in best drone they're pretty popular they're growing in popularity they're pretty expensive but we see they're a little bit more competitive so keywords in the 60s a little bit more difficult there are going to be random keywords that you can rank for like best drone under 500 maybe best real estate drone things that are kind of long tail like that but that one's a little bit more difficult for an affiliate standpoint what about something else that's really new and emerging ever since Apple you know launched their product and that's VR so look at like VR headset games lots and lots of porn searches for this I've never done it myself I promise to everyone in my wife that I've never done it but this search is basically riddled with porn so we're gonna go ahead and say this one's a little bit competitive there's games there's headsets but there's not a ton of different variations for this one let's look at another affiliate marketing nation that is pool so best pool this could actually be pretty good best pool floats automatic pool covers cleaners robotic cleaners vacuums lots of low competition easy articles that can make affiliate Revenue related to pools here do another one best cordless so we see things that are cordless products vacuums and all that it looks a little bit competitive let's drop the difficulty down to see if there are things that are newer or emerging or less competitive we see there's a number of good things Shark cordless vacuum cordless hedge trimmers cordless screwdriver phones ratchet lots of tools so if you're you know you want to create a power tool type blog or YouTube channel and compare products there's a lot of opportunity there as well I put in another one here for best boat and the matching terms that come up are things like fishing boats boat Insurance boat shoes wakeboarding boat boat loans boats for wake surfing boat Brands best family boat lots of different boating ideas so as you see here affiliate marketing starts with search intent people searching for products on Google or on YouTube and you want to become the person that ranks for these things by creating articles around these best transactional posts so what you want to do is validate a niche first find one where you can come up with like 20 to 30 keywords that you can write for articles and it's not too small so we saw gardening a little bit small drones a little bit competitive products like pools and things like that could be a lot easier guitars every Niche has opportunities based on new and emerging products you don't want to write about old stuff you want to write about new stuff so it's easy to find these opportunities with SEO tools so you want to build your list of 30 keywords you know just put it in a Google sheet and then also do affiliate research build a list of 10 programs to join so when you're starting out you want to start joining affiliate programs so maybe if you did something like you know the best power tools you can find different power tool brands or boats or anything like that so you find these affiliate opportunities by Googling the term you know the Brand Plus affiliate program to find the actual program itself and then you know in the same spreadsheet open a new tab select some programs that you want to join look at the competition who's ranking you can find other opportunities that way so we actually write the affiliate content and optimize it for sale so let's look at a couple examples of how to do that so you'll see that every blog ranking and making a lot of affiliate Revenue has just a few types of Articles they have like information in their Niche like this keto blog for example has recipes diet but then they also have recommended so recommended tools supplements cooking so let's look at supplements and we can see like these are the keto supplement recommendations and they have affiliate links here for their like Garden of Life vitamins and stuff like that another one here is like headphones addict and they write a ton of different articles about headphones but we can see they're creating and you know based on the keyword best earbuds with microphone so that's an interesting you know keyword they probably found and they saw the difficulty wasn't that bad so they're ranking for it so small introduction they have a table here with all the products and then they are linking to the Amazon affiliate links that way so with this this is a numbers game you know we want to have a number of different articles it isn't just some get rich quick overnight scheme we want to actually have a lot of different stuff so look at all these different things best headphones for sleeping Skull Candy beats Sennheiser under 200 there's tons of different keywords here and when you start ranking for a lot of different articles you just start you know compounding the amount of money you make every Niche has these opportunities like dogfoodadvisor. com like best dog food brands they're all written in the same uh style right there's an introduction there's a table of contents this one's really long so it's really in depth but if we can finally get down they actually just listed the different brands here's like dry puppy foods then they have their article here and you can see again it's basically an introduction written and then the uh there's ways to optimize these articles by adding you know three to four affiliate links per section maybe it's in the first mention there's some tips calls to action review and then potentially just clicking an affiliate link like they could have buttons here they don't really have them but they have these boxes so there's a lot of different ways to do it here's another one globosurfer. com and if I click on like they have stuff on boating beach fish water gear if I were to select like audio you see you know best marine speakers stereos amplifiers and then these articles are written in a templatized way with a good title and then they have their top three picks and simple content blocks with affiliate links then they're table of contents I really like the layout of this one then they have a big box check latest price this is another Amazon affiliate link and they're doing it that way but you'll see all of these sites are in a larger Niche covering multiple sub niches and dominating those so they do Beach Boat Fishing you know headphones is like Wireless over ear all the kinds of headphones so it takes a number of different articles to make a real affiliate business but as long as you have a clear direct keyword and content strategy and you also understand affiliate marketing that's what's going to be the key so let's get into the actual affiliate marketing Advanced tactics so the key here is getting traffic so there's multiple strategies for that SEO blogging YouTube whatever your your path is but once you have traffic it's time to actually start running your affiliate marketing business now this is in your control and your control is traffic and affiliate link click so you can get traffic to your website views on your YouTube video and then you can put affiliate links in and get clicks on those that is in your control now what is out of your control is the conversion rate well people actually buy the thing that you're trying to sell will they actually click your affiliate link and buy or they click your affiliate link and never make a purchase you know what is that conversion rate well that is on the brand and it's up to them to actually convert the user so this is a relationship between the affiliate and the brand to optimize the stuff and make the most money possible so let's cover some stuff here well first you want to join affiliate programs and follow up so you can join affiliate networks where there's a lot of programs inside like impact share a sale CJ all of those you fill out a form put your website name in and you're good to go but you also want to follow up so you want to join these affiliate programs fill out the form oftentimes sometimes affiliate managers won't actually answer right away or you'll be declined or you just won't hear back for a little while so you can always follow up via email so you want to find that affiliate manager's email it's shown in the network itself or you can find it on the company website but just reach out and say hey I joined your affiliate program a couple days ago I haven't heard back this is my website check it out if you want to follow up this is a real relationship you start building with these companies and you want to build relationships with these affiliate managers so there's lots of benefits to actually having a real relationship with the affiliate manager that we'll cover and things that can really help out your blog or your YouTube channel in the future you also want to optimize the order of brands in your post based on earnings per click so let's say you know the goal here is to write you know 10 to 20 articles if you're a blogger and you know we want to monetize maybe the top three positions in that article with affiliate links you can just start with the main company link and then add your affiliate links into those companies maybe a couple times and with a call to action button in each one and then you start seeing how many affiliate link clicks you're getting so after you get a little traffic then you start getting affiliate link clicks once you're generating clicks you can start to understand okay what is the conversion rate if I send company a 100 clicks and Company B 100 clicks which one am I making more money from and then really you optimize the order of these brands in your post based on what makes you the most money because the company in position one makes more than two which makes more than three so one gets the most clicks compared to two and three now this is the unfortunate reality of affiliate marketing whereas you know a lot of people if it's a real business a large media site they just care about money they don't care about how good the review actually is or which one's number one however when you think about it it's not that big of a deal because really you're just getting more clicks to the number one but you don't have to say it's the best way better than number two or three based on your review you know you can say this is the best for this group this is number two is best for this group number three is best for this group and clearly differentiating the products in your affiliate posts is really important but you also want to make money you know you're not creating content we're not building this affiliate marketing machine just to promote brands for free I've had Brands before where like they had a high higher commission rate for me but once I increase their position in the article and got them clicks they never converted so the key is who converts and it's usually well-known popular brands in the niche with their medium priced products those are the things that convert the best which typically tend to be the best products anyways you also want to improve the review content and call to action sentences so you publish the affiliate articles well they can always be updated and improved so you need to set an updating schedule depending on your Niche it could be once every you know three months once every six months once a year just make sure you're refreshing the content checking the pricing making sure things are accurate adding new features adding new review sections adding different calls to action sentences maybe you know use the affiliate program that you're promoting is something like podcast hosting like one of mine I know that if they sign up for this company they get 20 off their first month so I would add that sentence in right before the button so there's ways to optimize these posts once you've already created them you also want to improve the differentiation and Human Experience so we covered a little bit about differentiation you want to make sure you cover your bases and cover the main product products in that category for all people who would read that article and then you want Human Experience so with the rise of AI writing tools and AI content and chat GPT Human Experience will always win out here you know Google sge if that comes out in the future or chat GPT with some 150 words snippet about a product it's just not good enough so Human Experience wins real product reviews real information based on your experience now the question is do you have to you know use every single product buy every single product that you review no that's not the case most large websites don't actually do that however Niche experience that's where that comes in and really helps if you understand the niche then it's going to be a lot easier there's also ways in the future with AI where you can ask chat GPT like hey pull uh this specific you know hiking boot on Amazon and see what are the you know main reviews saying what are the pros cons how are customers interacting with that and add that helpful information into your article as well but true Human Experience will win when you know ranking for this type of content so let's cover the relationship between the Blogger or the affiliate and the affiliate manager the person that's managing an individual company's affiliate program because it's a win-win relationship in a lot of ways so things that you can offer an affiliate manager if you're a blogger are three things three main things higher position in an article they're in so let's say you're ranking for something like that best keto supplements for example and you have this company in position number six well you can out you can offer to put them in position number one and that automatically will get them more traffic this is very valuable real estate if you're on page one of Google for a best you know plus product term in their category they're going to want to be there they're going to want to pay you they're going to spend a lot of money you can also add them to an article they're not in so let's say they're not in that best keto supplement article at all well you can offer to add them in in a position it's kind of good to start the relationship that way and finally you can add them to net new articles articles that don't exist on your site yet maybe they have a new product coming out this company and you can write a review on it and write that article and try to rank on Google for that so those are the three things now when it comes to doing this you have to realize that Affiliates are kind of in the power position if you're ranking on page one of Google for a Best Plus product based category term like that that's really good for affiliate revenue and you're getting traffic then you're kind of hold the power in that relationship so you want to make sure that you're a shrewd negotiator that you know you're worth that you don't ask for too little because oftentimes that happens I did that in the past and you also want to start the negotiation in the right spot for example if you want to ask for like higher commission rates and that's another thing that they can offer you you wouldn't want to already have them in the number one spot maybe you you have them at number four and then you start the negotiation say hey I can move you to number one so there's little details like that that can really be helpful but things that you can ask for from an affiliate manager things that they can provide would be higher commission rates that's the number one thing that you want you make more money for every single sale so the more sales you make the better relationship you have the higher commission rates that you will get the more money you make backlinks that's something that actually I kind of created and started was asking affiliate managers for backlinks from their websites so if you're an affiliate for a big company or a brand they have a Blog you can say Hey you know I'm trying to rank this content I have you guys in the number one spot would you mind helping me out with a backlink or two from your site most of the time they'll say yes or at least they'll say I don't know let me talk to the SEO manager or somebody else but that's another good thing you can ask for which helps boost your website's SEO other promotions they can promote you an email YouTube podcast you could be a guest on their YouTube channel or podcast or write a guest post for them there's lots of interesting content collaborations that you can start with these types of relationships and they also you need to make sure that they're sending you their highest converting landing pages so once they click your affiliate link and they go to the company website you want to make sure that the page that they land on is the best possible one so the affiliate manager's job is to make sure that the landing pages that people are sending traffic to are the highest converting they can also do like co-branded landing pages so you could say visitors from adamandfro.
com get 10 off and have a co-branded landing page as well so these are just some of the things that you can ask for from an affiliate manager and you know more advanced tactics of how this works when it comes to contracts and negotiations every company has different commission rates and stuff like that but they're not fixed they're never fixed they usually have a public i o or a public contract out there for a certain percentage that they give to everyone who signs up for their program and then they can you know slide that scale Up and Down based on the relationship and based on what you're sending them so you have leverage you can start negotiating so let's look at a little bit of math as a negotiation example so let's say you are in the software Niche and your article gets 5 000 visits a month and 30 of people click the affiliate link for the brand in the number one spot that's general rule like if someone lands on an article 30 of people will click that first affiliate link appears so that would be 1500 affiliate link clicks a month now if it's a 100 a month software product and you're getting a 20 recurring commission rate so that means you make twenty dollars a month per sale so recurring affiliate programs pay you every single month as long as the customer remains a customer now this is where it gets a little tricky in the software Niche but let's say this is the conversion rate data let's say that they have a 10 click to trial conversion rates so in software there's trials and then there's buyers so you're not going to get paid for somebody trialing software so 10 of 1500 affiliate uh 1500 visitors trial that's 150 trials 10 of the trialers become sales that's 15 sales so that's pretty typical 10 and 10 pretty medium and average so that would equal to you 15 sales times 20 a month is 300 a month in recurring commissions so every month for that 15 for that 5 000 visits you make 300 a month however this is where you know things can compound with recurring commissions so assuming a five percent churn rate where you know customers aren't always going to infinitely stay in that software you're not going to always get credit for it you can see that these numbers compound so that month one is 300 570 and it goes all the way down until by The End by month 12 you have um 180 customers that are yours credits your affiliate account and you're making three thousand four hundred twenty dollars that's for a 20 recurring commission but what if you talk to the affiliate manager and just said hey do you think we could bump me up I've made some sales you think he could bump me up to 30 what would that look like well 30 would get the number up to five thousand one hundred and thirty dollars at the end of the month 12. just by changing that by 10 so when you think about it that way you made a few thousand dollars more per month just by having one conversation and this is true I've done this many times where we started like a 20 commission rate we start getting traffic for the brand and then they bump it up to 30.
