At a press conference regarding UFO denial in the US, Senator John McCain references some lights over Arizona that have never been explained. On March 13th 1997, one of the largest UFO sightings ever took place in the southwestern part of the United States. This is a true story of a group of six people who encountered more than just lights in the sky.
Lilly is being chased through the woods. She reaches a log cabin and bangs on the door screaming for help. She manages to break in and there is a thudding at the door behind her.
Earlier that evening, a group of five friends are driving in an RV across Arizona towards Las Vegas. They are a little lost and in a bicker about who is reading the map correctly. Above them, in the sky there are lights moving amongst the stars.
The friends continue to chat about their lives in general but the mood becomes less jovial over time as they struggle to read the map. Matt is in the driver's seat and his fiancee - Lilly - is in the passenger seat. Joe and June are another couple and are sitting in the back of the RV fooling around.
Lilly is a little angry with Matt for buying the RV when they were supposed to be saving for a house. She asks why he proposed to her in the first place as they have been engaged for so long now. The argument escalates until she gets up and leaves.
Joe tries to relieve the mood by joking around. He has a look through the cupboards for a drink. A knife drops down from the cupboard and he places it back on the side.
Molly - Matt’s sister - is sleeping and having a nightmare. She wakes to find a figure standing over her and it covers her mouth. She wakes up with a start - she was still asleep.
She gets out of bed and opens the door. On the other side stands an eerie figure. She wakes up again - she was still dreaming.
She goes to join the others and Lilly goes to the bedroom. The radio plays an e van gel ist show so Joe turns it off. The friends chat instead.
Lilly comes out of the bedroom and goes to the bathroom as she is feeling sick. The radio comes on again playing some interference. June looks out of the window and sees some lights in the sky.
Joe goes with her to get a better view. Matt is trying to look as well but Lilly keeps warning him to keep his eyes on the road. He swerves and doesn’t notice a truck in the road.
He narrowly misses it but crashes the RV. Everyone scrambles around inside the RV to check that they are all ok. Matt is angry and storms out of the RV to confront the owner of the other vehicle.
He meets Richard, the owner and immediately punches him and accuses him of parking in the middle of the road. He had, in fact, broken down there and set up warning flares. Lilly and Molly rush over to break up the fight but then June calls Matt to come back inside as Joe is hurt.
During the crash he fell onto the knife and stabbed himself. He is badly injured and there is blood everywhere. Matt is about to pull the knife out but Richard advises against it.
Richard seems to know what to do and tries to help by administering first aid but everyone else starts to panic. He goes to his truck to fetch a bottle of vodka to help sterilize the wound and at the same time puts a gun in his back pocket. He returns to the caravan and tends to the wound.
The knife has to stay in because pulling it out could cause more damage. Molly finds that she has no phone signal. Molly, Lilly and Richard go outside as Matt tries to repair the RV.
There are more lights in the sky. Richard goes to move his truck while Lilly and Matt argue again. Nobody notices that they are being watched from a distance.
Richard and Molly start chatting. She helps him to move his car out of the road. Richard goes on to tell her about himself.
He was in the army - serving in Iraq. She asks if he ever killed anyone and he says yes. He tells her about how he was captured by the enemy and spent time as a prisoner of war.
He becomes a little emotional and Molly tries to comfort him. Lilly is writing in her journal. As she stands up a creature can be seen observing her from behind.
Matt is under the RV and hears a noise. Assuming that it is Lilly, he comes out from underneath the car and calls her name. He can’t see her but hears a noise coming from the woods so he wanders off looking for her.
Shortly after, his torch goes out. Then he can see a shadow in the distance and follows, continuously calling out for Lilly. Meanwhile, Lilly is actually still in the RV being sick.
She starts to cry. June is now sitting in the front seat of the RV - also crying about Joe. Joe has gone to sleep but June tells Lilly that he is in so much pain.
Lilly decides to go and check on Matt. She can’t find him but suddenly he appears behind her. He apologizes for their argument earlier and they make up.
All of a sudden June calls them inside as she can’t wake Joe. Richard follows them back inside. He doesn’t understand what is wrong so he feels Joe’s abdomen to see if there is internal bleeding.
It seems that the knife hit an artery and that is serious. They need to get him to a hospital but neither of the vehicles will start. No-one has a phone signal either.
Matt says that he is going to look for help. Richard suggests following the power lines nearby to find a house. Matt tells Richard to come with him because, as he tells Lilly, he doesn’t trust him enough to leave him with the girls.
They follow the power line into the woods. Lilly talks with Molly. Molly realizes that Lilly is pregnant and asks why she hasn’t told Matt about it yet.
Richard can see something ahead and Matt can hear some kind of electrical noise. Richard is talking but all of a sudden he notices that Matt has disappeared. He calls out for him and then a figure appears behind him.
He yells and the creature has gone. As he shines his torch into the night he can see more of the creatures. He shoots at one and then realizes that he has, in fact, shot Matt.
He runs to help him - but Matt is dead. Back in the RV, the girls hear a gunshot. Richard runs towards them and orders them to get back inside.
He doesn’t tell them what happened to Matt. He locks the door and then tries to start the RV - but to no avail. He orders everyone to get away from the windows but then they notice blood on his hands.
Lilly asks whose blood it is. June starts to go wild while Molly begs to know what happened. Richard goes to the bathroom to clean up and starts to have flashbacks about what happened.
Lilly asks again - what happened? whilst Molly is sobbing. He tells them what just happened.
They want to leave to find Matt but Richard uses his gun to stop them. They now start to believe that Richard killed Matt. The radio is playing some interference and as Molly goes to try and switch it off Lilly thinks that she can hear Matt.
She looks out of the window but doesn’t notice a creature looking in. Molly can see Matt from the back window and grabs a flashlight. Richard insists that it’s not him and tries to stop them from leaving.
Molly runs out to find him. Suddenly there is a flare of green light and Molly vanishes. Lilly and Richard go back inside and draw the curtains.
There is a bang on the side of the RV and Richard shoots at the window. The banging stops and as Lilly looks out she can see a creature looking in. The banging starts again.
Richard says that they need to get out and get to the cabin. He says that he’ll carry Joe but June announces that he’s not breathing. The window shatters behind her and June is taken.
Lilly runs away. Richard can see more creatures looking in and also flees. Lilly reaches the cabin and hammers on the door, screaming for help.
As she manages to get in, there is banging on the door. Richard comes in behind her. He tells her that the creatures are getting in their heads - making them see things and hear things.
He switches on the light and they discover that the cabin is bare. She sits down seemingly giving up but Richard encourages her to get up and help him to barricade the doors and windows. She realizes that it wasn't Matt that they heard.
She didn’t see Matt, it was one of the creatures. She cries that she never got the chance to tell him she was pregnant. Richard says that they should wait till morning and then there is another bang at the door, and then over the roof.
They huddle in the corner and then the windows explode inwards. The creatures enter - looking around in the dark. Richard yells and shoots at them but they drag him away.
Lilly grabs the gun and escapes through the window. Outside the cabin is bathed in a green light. She runs through the woods as the cabin is pulled to pieces.
She trips on some barbed wire and drops the gun. As she tries to pick it up, the creatures appear and drag her away. Richard awakens unclothed, covered in some kind of fibrous material on an alien craft.
He rips his way free and crawls through more of the fibers. He discovers his gun. .
He can hear someone screaming in the distance and so follows that sound. He sees some alien creatures experimenting on Molly. There is something over her face.
They examine her abdomen. They take some slime and rub it onto her belly. The unborn baby is visible inside and they start to probe it.
Lilly screams in agony and the aliens leave. Richard approaches. He can see that they have taken her baby.
There is only one bullet left in the gun and Lilly begs him to kill her - which he does. Suddenly he is restrained by the aliens and is examined. They check inside his stomach and begin to probe his organs.
Some tentacles are inserted into his nose and through his back alien material seems to be fusing with his human organs. Some time later, in daylight, a policeman is investigating a report of the sighting of a dead body. He finds Richard’s partially buried body in the sand.
The policeman radios in his report and confirms that he is dead. Richard suddenly lurches at the policeman - he is alive! After one week, Richard was found in the Arizona Desert more than 100 miles from where his truck was eventually located.
