we're up to our 7eventh week on the print onut demand challenge to take a store from0 to 7 figures in sales in Under 12 months and things had been running pretty smoothly up until this point but this past week we hit a bit of a snag and we didn't hit our growth goals at all in fact we stayed exactly even with where we were last week and in this video I'm going to break down what our sales were from this previous week what went wrong and what our plans are to get things back on track
jumping into our Shopify dashboard these are sales we've had so far in the challenge we started the store on July 1st and quickly we're able to scale things up to the point now where we're doing about $2,000 a day some days around 1,500 but we've done $53,000 in sales in about 6 weeks it's not too bad last week we did $1,429 in sales and this week drum roll please we did did pretty much exactly the same $2,551 in sales so let's break that down and see why that happened and what we can do about it
so we started off the week pretty consistently at $1,865 in sales which is fine cuz we spent about $635 on ads and that same day we spent $956,000 .6% which is not terrible but then the week gets a lot worse Tuesday sales dip down to a whopping $139 which is down 34% from the same time last week which is always a bad sign anytime sales are dipping down that much week over week There's normally something wrong and action needs to be taken like the algorithm will vary slightly like 10 maybe 20% but anytime you have
a 30 40 50% dip something is off and either you need to refresh the creatives make changes to the site something needs to change because not only do we go down 34% but we spent $699 on ads which gave us an on Facebook row as of 1.86 and then we had $572 OED to printify Plus $147 in Shopify and PayPal fees and our $42 in Daily overhead expenses which brought us to a total whopping margin for the day of ne14 beautiful so taking our first real negative day on the chin like a champ moved on
to our next day where we dipped down even more we were down 34% from the same time the previous week at this point I'm like all right what the hell is going on so we did $1,195 in sales spent $678 on ads had a nice5 $6 Printery Bill add up all the other transaction fees and expenses and that brought us to a whopping NE $58 5% margin on the day backtack negative margin days are beautiful but luckily the next day we bounced back slightly and did $1,516 in sales which was up about 20% from the
same time last week and we spent about the same amount on ads $683 and had a $623 PRI bill which brought us to a total net margin of 140 bucks which more or less washed away the loss from the previous 2 days so now we're 3 days into the week and still yet to make a dollar so now we're 4 days into the week and we're up about 200 bucks which is not even enough to live off of yeah it's good we bounce back but we need to climb out of this hole even harder what
do we do we follow up the next day by being down 7 17% or $1,447 in sales $670 spent on ads $611 to printify which gave us a total margin of about a 100 bucks now I want to pause right here to make two important points before we talk about the rest of the week's sales number one is hopefully by seeing this it helps you understand that even really successful print on manand stores that run well have their down days there are times when everything is going right and then it just comes to a screeching
halt and everything just flips in your face so I hope that can be comforting in some ways to know that it happens to everybody I know that it was for me when I was getting started so I wanted to share that and then the second thing is when things are going bad understanding that to a certain extent that will happen but there's a point where you have to start making changes and actually get things back on track and that is normally like a 10 to 20% variance but when things are trending downwards 30% 25% like
we were seeing that's when you have to take action and what I did here was primarily on the ad side I noticed that I have been using more or less the same ads for the first 6 weeks of the challenge and the way that I knew that our ads were starting to burn out was that the products that I had running in the ads were no longer our top sellers on the site which if we're only running primarily four or five main products in our ads then those should be the top sellers if they're working
well and when the ads are doing well those are always the top products but when they're not the top products that's a really good indicator that people yes they're clicking on the ad but they're getting to the site and they're really interested in something else so I need to figure out what that something else is and put that in our ads and if you can do that and do it well and it takes a lot of testing but it's worth it cuz it normally works out like it did in this case like I said I've
identified that our ads had started to burn out so I launched 10 new ads in our testing campaign low budget $25 10 ads and I waited to see what the winner would be and when I found one it was one t-shirt that I thought nothing of I thought it was like a total loser and when I put it in the ads this happened so the next day we shot up 59% from the week before the same day and did $2,700 in sale and the best part is that we only spent $656 for that 2700 bucks
which gave us a row as of a 2.37 and we had a lot more sales that day so obviously our printify charge is going to be a lot higher we spent about $1,200 with them but adding up all of our different fees and everything included we did $874 in profit which is at a 32% margin which was pretty exciting for two reasons number one is that obviously it's $874 in in the bank but number two and even more importantly was that I was able to prove that when the store goes off the rails and things
start trending downwards I'm able to get them back on the tracks I'm able to get us back to profitability and in this case we had our best day ever so far in the challenge and if I'm able to just keep stringing days like this together we're able to keep continuing growth even when things get off the rails a little bit and then for our last day we did $2,469 in sales spent $6 $98 on our Facebook ads but look at our row as we're at a three on Facebook which is really good we spent $1,112
with printify and that day we had a total profit of $629 which is about a 25% margin so let's bring it all together and look at our profit report for the entire week as we talked about we had 12,621 in sales with $195 in cash back from printify which basically we've done so much business with them that they give us a 5% rebate on our product cost which they're still making a really decent margin on us but having 5% back as minor as it is adds up over time and it's pretty nice then we have
our $212 from the 2% cashback Capital 1 Credit Card which this is what we put all of our expenses on our total printify invoice was $ 5,575 and we did $139 in discounts and refunds on our Shopify store spent $4,700 on Facebook ads very minor amount on our Google ads about 40 bucks and we had $440 in merchant or processing fees our overhead expenses in total were $294 this is primarily just Shopify clavo a couple of other apps here and there which gave us a total net profit of $1,824 about 14% And obviously the vast
majority of this profit came from the last two days in the week and the way that I'm going to make sure we learn from this week and carry these lessons forward into the future is to never give our ads a chance to burn out again so we saw the impact that ads burning out can have on our store sales and how quickly it can just throw things completely off the rails so what I'm going to be doing in the future is not only having my ads that are running in my main CBO campaign and my
DPA campaign but I'm also going to always be testing at least 10 or 20 new products in a super lowbudget testing campaign about 5 to 10% of my ads spend and I'm always going to be cycling in new products there so that anytime the ads show any sign of burning out then I'm going to always have a nice Bullpen of ads to pull from that's my plan and I'm pretty excited after seeing the last 2 days performance so we'll have to see if this performance continues into the next coup couple weeks if you like this
