[Music] I've never really had a moment that truly scared me like the kind where your heart races and your stomach drops well at least that was until one Halloween night when I was about 11 years old I was tagging along with my sister and her friends for trick-or-treating they were older around 15 and we were all girls out for a night of fun grabbing candy and spraying each other with Silly String just usual Halloween stuff but that night there was something that kept nagging at me a feeling that I couldn't shake it was like a
quiet voice in the back of my mind telling me to look behind me again and again I kept glancing back thinking maybe it was just nerves from all the spooky decorations or My Imagination Running Wild but then around 9:30 p.m. I whipped my head around again just to check and this time I saw him standing about two yards Behind us was a clown not the happy funny kind but a full-on creepy Halloween clown at first I wasn't that scared I mean it's Halloween right people dress up in all kinds of costumes and clowns didn't normally
freak me out so I figured he was just another tricker treater maybe even someone from our neighborhood out enjoying the night like we were but something was off while we went door Todo collecting candy the clown never did he just stood there Hanging back watching us every house we stopped at he stayed at the end of the driveway waiting he never approached any doors or collected candy himself that weird feeling I had earlier started to creep back in heavier now I kept telling myself it was just some guy trying to pull a prank or something
but an hour passed and he was still behind us always just far enough to be out of reach but close enough to know he was following us at this point I was starting to really Stress out I whispered to my sister about the clown and she shot a quick glance behind us she didn't take it lightly she absolutely hated clowns always had and the sight of him lurking there freaked her out she decided we should test it just to make sure we take a different route cross the street and see if he followed us maybe
then we'd know for sure so we did we crossed to the other side of the road and sure enough the clown followed my sister's Face went pale and her friends started whispering nervously they were older but even they didn't know what to do it wasn't funny anymore it was creepy really creepy my sister now completely freaked out grabbed her phone and called our dad telling him to pick us up as soon as possible we tried to keep calm while we waited for him to get to us walking a little faster but that clown never gave
up every time we stopped he stopped he kept his distance but he Wasn't going anywhere about 30 minutes later our dad called to let us know where he was parked and we made a beline for the car I could feel my heart pounding in my chest we walked faster nearly running but that's when things took a turn the clown must have realized what we were trying to do because suddenly he sprinted in front of us cutting us off and trying to Corner Us in an alley between two houses my sister and her friends froze in
Terror me being The clueless and stubborn kid that I was tried to act tough I yelled at the clown telling him to leave us alone I don't know what I was thinking I guess I thought if I stood up to him he'd back off but he didn't instead he just stood there staring at me tilting his head to the side like a confused dog it was almost like he was mocking me my sister was trembling her hand shaking as she tried to call our dad again begging him to hurry but I wasn't done I grabbed
her Can of silly string and in my naive little mind thought this was the best defense I had I yelled again telling the clown if he didn't back off I'd ruin his costume with the Silly String of course the clown didn't move he didn't say a word didn't even Flinch so I sprayed him I sprayed the clown all over covering his mask and his costume and the bright sticky stuff for a second I thought maybe I'd done it that I'd scared him off but he just stood there struggling To wipe the string off his mask
so he could see that was our chance my sister grabbed my hand and we bolted running as fast as we could toward where our dad was parked I could hear the clown behind us his footsteps quickening as he tried to catch catch up my heart felt like it was going to explode out of my chest finally we rounded the corner and there was our dad's car we threw ourselves inside slamming the door shut just as the clown reached us he tried to yank The door open pulling at the handle with both hands but thankfully the
doors were locked my dad didn't waste a second he floored the gas and the car sped off leaving the clown behind but it didn't end there as we drove away I looked out the back window and saw him the clown was running after us his hands slamming against the rear window of the car he kept chasing us but he couldn't keep up eventually he disappeared from View and we were finally safe we never found out Who that clown was or what he wanted later we heard reports of other kids in the area being chased by
a clown with the same description to this day I can't help but wonder what he would have done if we hadn't gotten away I hope that Silly String ruined his costume for good and I hope we never ever meet again 2 years ago it was my turn to take my kids out for trick-or-treating my wife and I have a little tradition where we switch off each year one year it's my Turn the next it's hers my kids a 7-year-old son and a 9-year-old daughter were super excited as usual and we headed out to gather as
much candy as possible the way we usually do it is I hang back on the sidewalk while the kids run up to the doors knock say tricker or treat and come back with their goodies it was a fun night cool Autumn air lots of kids and parents out houses decked out with Halloween decorations the usual smalltown Halloween scene after about Half an hour of this we reached the main street in our neighborhood which always goes all out for Halloween every yard seemed to have creepy decorations skeletons ghosts animatronic figures that jumped out at you and
it was easy to get distracted with all the things going on I wasn't watching my kids as closely as I probably should have been just letting them run from house to house at one point they came back to me from one of the houses but this time They weren't alone walking alongside them was another kid a girl maybe a little shorter than my daughter she was wearing a mask that looked homemade like it was cut out of cardboard and colored in a kind of creepy way it was odd but I figured it was just someone
they knew from school or something my daughter looked up at me and asked dad can she trick or treat with us I thought nothing of it sure why not Halloween's all about fun and it wasn't unusual for groups of Kids to join up so I said of course and we all continued on collecting candy as we moved from house to house I started to notice something strange a man probably in his 40s or 50s was following us he was wearing this big Angry looking cat mask the mask was unsettling to say the least it wasn't
fute or funny but but looked almost distorted like it had been designed to creep people out at first I didn't think much of it assuming he was just another parent keeping an Eye on his kid but as the minutes passed I couldn't shake the uneasy feeling this guy wasn't acting like the other parents he wasn't going up to houses wasn't walking with his kid he was just trailing us always keeping a short distance behind after a few more houses I tried to break the tension by making small talk nice weather huh I said glancing back
at him but he didn't say a word he just stood there staring at me through that creepy mask we moved on to Another house and I asked him is that your daughter nodding toward the girl in the weird cardboard mask he nodded but still said nothing I figured he just wasn't in the mood to chat so I let it go but the Silence from both him and the girl was starting to get under my skin we continued for another 20 minutes or so the whole time with this guy and his daughter or whoever she was
right behind us never saying a word never getting candy just following it was unsettling But I didn't want to make a big deal out of it maybe they were just shy or socially awkward I thought but then my kids came up to me looking uneasy and asked if we could go home that surprised me they were normally so excited for trick-or-treating and we had barely filled their bags still I wasn't going to argue if they wanted to go home we'd go home I waved Goodbye To The Man in the cat mask and his daughter but
they didn't wave back back they just stood There staring at us as we walked away it was weird really weird but I didn't say anything just focused on getting the kids home as we turned the corner I glanced back one more time and there they were still standing in the same spot just watching us not moving not heading to any more houses just watching as we walked home something kept nagging at me I decided to ask my daughter who was that girl with the mask do you know her from school my daughter looked up at
Me confused no daddy she said she was your friend I stopped dead in my tracks my friend I asked trying to wrap my head around that yeah my daughter said she told me she was your friend and that she was too shy to ask you if she could trick-or treat with us so she wanted me to ask you that didn't make any sense why would some random girl or anyone for that matter claim to be my friend and why would she be too shy to ask me directly I laughed nervously trying to Make light of
it honey I don't have any kids is friends I said but my daughter wasn't laughing in fact she looked even more confused she wasn't a kid Daddy I stopped walking what do you mean when she first came up to us she wasn't wearing the mask she was an old lady she had wrinkles and everything I felt my stomach drop my daughter continued she started stealing candy from my bag that's why we wanted to go home I felt a chill run down my spine my daughter and Son had been trick-or-treating with a woman pretending to be
a child and I had no idea and what about the man in the cat mask was he really her dad or was something even more Sinister going on why had they both been following us silently for so long when we got home I told my wife everything we checked through the kids candy but nothing was out of the ordinary no weird items no tampered rappers in the end we didn't call the police after all nothing had Really happened and I didn't have any proof that the woman or the man meant us harm but I still
think about that night I wonder what the old woman was doing why she chose us to follow and who the hell the man in The Mask really was the thought of people out there on Halloween hiding behind masks and pretending to be something they're not still makes my skin crawl and every year since I've kept a much closer eye on my kids during Halloween you never know who might be Lurking behind that mask pretending to be something there knocked it was the night before Halloween and I must have been in Middle School probably around 6th
or 7eventh grade I wasn't older than 12 and I remember being small for my age I was one of those kids who didn't weigh more than 100b until High School skinny flat and not particularly tall or short for a girl my age overall I was pretty low energy but the one time of year that Always got me excited was Halloween I loved everything about it especially the costumes that night my mom drove my sister and me to a mini strip mall to do some last minute shopping a discount clothing store had opened there a few
months before and we figured they'd have some Halloween stuff the only other places open were a Sally's Beauty Supply and a Marshall's it was getting late probably around 8:30 or 9 p.m. and both Marshalls and the clothing store were Going to close soon but we decided to give it a try the clothing store was massive once we got inside they had decorated the place for Halloween and I was excited to check out all the cost costumes it was the kind of store where it was easy to get separated because of all the tall racks and
aisles shortly after we walked in one of the employees jumped out wearing a skeleton mask scaring me half to death my mom and sister thought it was hilarious of Course and went off on their own to shop I wasn't mad but I decided to browse for a costume by myself I was addicted to my MP3 player at the time and I had my headphones in while I looked around but after a while I started feeling feeling weird like someone was watching me at first I thought I was just being paranoid because it was late and
Halloween decorations were everywhere still the feeling didn't go away I took one of my headphones out and turned down The music and that's when I heard it a faint whistling sound it was creepy whenever I felt like someone was getting closer the whistling would start up again there were other people in the store so I tried to brush it off I told myself I was being silly and kept shopping a little while later my mom and sister found me and told me they were going to Marshalls before it closed they gave me $20 and said
I could keep looking for a costume and meet them There when I was done once they left the uneasy feeling came back stronger this time I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was following me I started glancing under the clothing racks as I walked and that's when I saw it dirty black sneakers they were always just on the other side of the aisle but I never saw the person's face I told myself again I was just imagining things that but I couldn't focus on costumes anymore I decided it was time to leave as I Headed
for the door I could hear footsteps behind me they matched my Pace no matter how fast I walked my heart was racing I was a track runner in middle school so I picked up my speed hoping to lose whoever was following me but the footsteps didn't stop I could feel them getting closer my pulse was in my ears by the time I finally turned around to see who it was it was a man he couldn't have been more than 30 5 dressed all in black with his hoodie up just staring at Me he didn't have
any shopping bags so he clearly wasn't there to shop the way he looked at me sent a chill down my spine it wasn't just that he was following me it was the smirk on his face like he knew I was scared I wanted to scream for help but the fear locked my voice I turned back around and ran fast the Marshall's was several doors down but I wasn't stopping I could hear his footsteps right behind me and I I could hear his breathing he was Struggling to keep up but he wasn't giving up my legs
were burning but the fear kept me moving I kept thinking about how if he caught me no one would see it and no one would know by the time I got to the marshals I was practically in tears I burst through the automatic doors and to my horror the man followed me inside we were both running full speed through the store my mind was racing but all I could think about was hiding or finding my Mom finally I saw An opening two Revol in stands filled with phone cases and headphones I darted between them knowing
he wouldn't be able to fit through the narrow space he lunged at me his arm stretching out to grab my shirt but he missed he made a loud noise when he knocked over one of the stands and other Shoppers finally started to notice I didn't stop running until I found my mom by then I was sweating and crying trying to explain what had happened the last thing I saw Was the man making a quick exit from the store to this day my mom and sister don't believe me they think it was just a prank by
the guy in the skeleton mask who scared me earlier but I know what I saw the man who followed me wasn't a teenage employee he was a grown man and he was trying to take me I can still feel that terrifying atmosphere when I think about it it changed how I see things forever now whenever I'm out in public especially with younger cousins I'm always on edge if I see someone staring at them for too long I make sure to step in I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I hadn't been fast
enough that night if I hadn't found those stands to hide behind it's not the scariest story in the world but it's something that has stuck with me it's a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong especially when you're young and unsuspecting check out true horror stories on my friend's channel YouTube Is not pushing it for some reasons but your little push can help him head over watch a video and if you like what you see don't forget to subscribe and leave a comment love from after Moon Horrors for context I'm 20 now but this
happened when I was 11 my family had just moved from the Midwest to a small town in south Georgia I was a tiny homeschooled girl about 4' 6 and only 85 lb growing up I had always lived in quiet Suburban areas so moving to a town with a lot of Crime and gang activity was a huge shock to make things harder my Dad was deployed to Iraq at the time so it was just me my mom and my brothers on Halloween night there was no adult to take us trick-or-treating because my mom had to stay
home and hand out candy my older brother who was 14 decided he was too old to go out so it was just me and my younger brother I wasn't about to let the night go to waste though especially since we grew up in a mostly organic Sugar-free household this was my one night to get as much candy as I could my little brother was eight at the time and we were both excited I was dressed up as a chef and my brother had on on this fluffy lion costume like the one from The Wizard of
Oz our neighborhood was small but well- lit with street lights and there were plenty of people out walking around so my mom was fine with letting us go alone she just told us to be back soon we started making our way Down the street hitting up every house that had its porch lights on everything seemed normal at first we went down one Street then the next and decided to take a route that would Circle back toward our house but as soon as we turned down this one Street something felt off I couldn't explain it at
the time but I just got this uneasy feeling the street lights were all out on that road and it was so still too still none of the houses had their lights on and there Wasn't a single person trick-or-treating it was strange because it wasn't even that late maybe 8:30 p.m. I kept walking trying to shake the feeling while my brother was happily skipping along beside me his candy bag bouncing with each step that's when I saw it up ahead about 15 ft down the street there was a figure a tall shadowy figure sitting on one
of those big green electrical boxes that you see in every neighborhood he wasn't looking at us but he was sitting So still staring Straight Ahead like he didn't want to be noticed I immediately felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up my big sister instincts kicked in and I grabbed my brother's hand I slowed down and whispered to him John turn around slowly and start walking back the other way don't say anything but being the loud clueless kid he was he blurted out what in his high-pitched voice I clenched my teeth and
hissed just turn around and I started pulling Him by the hand trying to act casual we hadn't gone more than a few steps when the figure suddenly jumped up and started sprinting toward us my heart nearly stopped the guy was yelling something but I couldn't make out the words it was angry though something like you little shits get back back here that's when I realized we were in real danger without thinking I tightened my grip on my brother's hand and started running as fast as I could I don't know How we ran so fast but
the adrenaline kicked in my heart was pounding in my chest and I could hear the man's footsteps getting closer behind us my brother was struggling to keep up and I could hear him panting but we didn't stop we turned the corner racing toward the first house we saw with a light on there was an old man sitting in his garage handing out candy without thinking we bolted into his garage practically crashing into his candy Table the old man looked startled but when he saw the fear on our faces he stood up concerned he was a
kind-looking old man the type that could easily be someone's grandpa I started babbling trying to explain what had just happened barely able to catch my breath he quickly calmed me down speaking in a gentle voice and offered to walk us back home before before we left two kids who had been sitting in the garage with him probably his grandkids came over they Were around our age and without a word they handed us a pillowcase full of candy they told us we could have it because they already had plenty and they knew we probably wouldn't be
going trick-or-treating anymore that night it was such an unexpected act of kindness that I almost didn't know what to say I mumbled a quick thank you and then the old man walked us home I couldn't stop looking over my shoulder the whole way terrified that the man from the street Would show up again but he didn't when we got to the house the old man explained to my mom what had happened she thanked him over and over even giving him a hug before he left once we were inside safe and sound I finally felt like
I could breathe again my mom was shaken up but she was just glad we were okay we spent the rest of the night eating candy but I couldn't stop thinking about how different things could have turned out out if that old Man hadn't been there to this day I'm still grateful for him and his grandkids it's one of those moments that sticks with you a reminder of how quickly a fun night can turn into something scary but more than that it's a reminder that sometimes kindness shows up when you least expect it this happened almost
a decade ago when I was 12 years old my friend and I were super excited because it it was our first time trick-or-treating without our Parents we lived in a small quiet town where nothing exciting ever really happened so we expected it to be just another fun Halloween night the evening started off like any other Halloween we went from house to house filling our bags with candy and bumping into our classmates along the way it was a blast around 7:30 p.m. we realized we should probably head home but before we did we decided to swing
by our teach 's house when we got to her place she wasn't home And the street she lived on was eerily quiet there were barely any street lights and most of the houses had their lights turned off which usually meant no candy my friend and I started feeling uneasy not just because of the lack of candy but because the whole street had this strange empty Vibe we decided it was time to get out of there as quickly as possible just as we were about to leave a man appeared from under one of the few street
lights He startled us because we hadn't noticed him before probably because of how dark it was he was dressed as a police officer and seemed really friendly smiling and introducing himself right away the cop pointed to a small ordinary looking bundal nearby and told us that an older man living there had been inviting trick-or-treaters inside his house someone had called the police about it but when the cop showed up no one answered the door he told us his Police car and partner were just around the block even though we didn't see any sign of them
I was a paranoid kid mainly because my mom was obsessed with crime shows she'd always tell me little tips on how to stay safe and one thing I remembered was that people could pretend to be cops to gain your trust my gut told me something was wrong this man wasn't wearing a badge and there was no police car or partner anywhere in sight but the way he smiled and talked so Casually made me second guess my myself maybe I was overreacting that was until he made a strange request he told us he needed our help
to catch the man in the house he said the guy would only answer the door if young girls like us knocked his plan was to hide in the bushes next to the front door and wait for the man to invite us inside then jump out and catch him in the act at that moment I could tell my friend was just as freaked out as I was we didn't say anything but We both knew something wasn't right one of us managed to ask if we could talk it over and the cop agreed but warned us that
time was running out he said the street was so quiet he could hear everything which only made things scarier we wanted to discuss what to do but we were terrified he'd overhear us and do something we just stood there Frozen staring at each other while the cop became more and more impatient right when the tension felt unbearable a Family started walking down the street they they noticed the cop and were heading toward us the officer suddenly said he'd be right back and told us not to move as soon as he walked away my friend and
I took off we ran as fast as we could and didn't look back on our way home we tried to make sense of what had just happened was he a real cop playing a prank or maybe we'd misunderstood the situation entirely we weren't sure when we got home we told our parents what Happened but we downplayed it we didn't want to cause a scene still our dads drove us back to the house and checked out the area there were no police cars no officers nothing for years I've wondered what really happened that night part of
me regrets not calling the police but at the time my friend and I convinced ourselves we had misunderstood the whole thing even our teacher and classmates thought it was just a weird but harmless encounter now I can't help But wonder what were his true intentions unfortunately we'll never know it's something that will always remain a mystery I think it's finally time I write this down it's haunted me for years but maybe putting it out there will help me move on I don't know if I can ever forgive myself for what happened that night I was
15 and my girlfriend her brother my best friend and I came up with this brilliant idea to stay out all night on Halloween we Thought we had the perfect plan my best friend and I would tell our parents we were sleeping over at Sarah and Liam's house meanwhile Sarah would tell her parents that she and Liam were staying at mine yeah it was dumb but we were teenagers and we thought we were Invincible now I wish the plan had failed that Halloween night we set out feeling like total Rebels we had even come up with
a group costume Liam dressed as Superman Ben was the flash Sarah was Supergirl and I was backgirl we were all pumped the whole night stretched out ahead of us hours of trick-or-treating stuffing our faces with candy and doing whatever we wanted after about 3 hours of collecting candy things started to wind down people were shutting off their porch lights closing their doors by midnight the whole street was dark and the only noise was a distant barking dog we were the last ones out wandering the empty Neighborhood Sarah and I were bored I turned to her
and asked should we just go home but Liam wasn't having it you're sleeping over at my house remember and I'm at yours you want to be the one to explain to your mom that you lied Ben who had been unusually quiet finally spoke up he'd been Downing candy Non-Stop and was probably feeling sick this isn't as fun as you made it sound maybe we should go home and tell the truth yeah they'll be mad but at least We can have a real sleepover Liam looked at all of us realizing he was the only one still
wanting to stay out he sighed looking like he was about to give in but then he stopped his face lighting up like a Jack-o-Lantern what's that he said already moving toward it we all turned around and saw it a house we had somehow never noticed before it was only 20 ft away covered in Halloween decorations that made our stomachs churn there were Two giant pumpkin-headed scarecrows standing guard at the gate dozens of skeletons lining the yard and Jackal lanterns with Twisted agonized faces lining the porch a massive spider hung in the front window hovering over
the bushes like it was ready to pounce bones were scattered on the roof as if someone had thrown them from above and the whole house was bathed in this strange Eerie purple light Sarah and I exchanged uneasy glances how did we miss that Earlier she asked I didn't have an answer we'd been all over town a glowing purple house with decorations like that should have stood out but neither of us had seen it before now I turned to ask Ben if he remember remembered it but he was already moving toward it with Liam the two
of them were entranced like they were in some sort of Trance Sarah Shrugged at me like what else did you expect from those two so we grabbed each other's hands and followed up close the House was even worse the scarecrow's eyes seemed to follow us as we walked through the gate and the yard stank like something rotten I held Sarah's hand tighter as we passed the skeletons they looked too real the craftsmanship was too detailed for cheap store bought decorations we climbed the porch steps with Liam practically bouncing with excitement and Ben looking wide-eyed and
almost dazed I was starting to feel seriously uneasy we rang the doorbell The sound that came out was deep like a church bell echoing through the house trick-or treat we called out though my voice sounded shaky I was glad Sarah was squeezing my hand because it reassured me that I wasn't the only one completely freaked out by this place the door swung open a tall woman stood in the doorway her long copper hair falling around her shoulders she was dressed as a witch but not the kind you see at the usual Halloween parties her black
eyeliner and Deep red lipstick made her look like she had just walked off the set of an old gangster movie she grinned when she saw us or rather when she saw the boys my my she purred two handsome Heroes here on my doorstep she giggled in this strange high-pitched way and Ben smiled at her like she was the most most beautiful thing he'd ever seen Liam just stared the woman's eyes drifted over to Sarah and me and something in her expression shifted it was like she knew we weren't Falling for the same charm that had
the boys hypnotized her smile wavered but only for a second candy she offered holding out a bowl filled with unwrapped odd-looking pieces they looked like oversized misshapen Whoppers I stepped back pulling Sarah with me no thanks we've had enough candy tonight it was a lie we hadn't eaten much of the candy we'd collected but I wasn't about to take anything from this woman her smile faltered again but she turned to the Boys who eagerly grabbed handfuls of the strange candy after they had finished the woman looked at us all again you must be thirsty after
all that trick-or-treating come inside I've got some apple cider she gestured to the open door and I swear it looked like the mouth of some giant creature just waiting to swallow us whole Sarah and I exchanged a look there was no way we were going inside that house no thanks I said forcing a smile we turned to leave But when we glanced back Ben and Liam were gone the woman had disappeared too my heart started pounding they went inside Sarah whispered her voice shaking we were terrified but we couldn't just leave them we decided to
circle around the house hoping to find another way in but the windows were all covered and the back door was locked our last option was the front window the one with the giant spider I took a deep breath and looked inside there was a dimly lit fireplace Casting an eerie glow on two armchairs Ben and Leon were slumped in them their eyes closed two half empty glasses of cider sat on the table between them and then there was the woman she stood between the chairs her arms hanging limply by her sides without warning one of
her arms shot up and then the other she started growling low and guttural I watched in horror as she placed placed a finger on each of the boys foreheads and began chanting suddenly Ben and Liam Started convulsing their bodies shaking violently I must have made some kind of noise because the woman turned around her eyes were completely clouded and her face her face was melting blue liquid dripped from her mouth and her skin looked like it was sliding off her skull Sarah and I screamed we ran not caring where we were going as we charged
through the yard I knocked over one of the scarecrows its head shattered on the ground revealing a human skull Underneath we didn't stop until we reached my house collapsing on the porch sobbing I told my mom Everything At first she didn't believe me but one look at our faces and she knew something had happened she called the police they searched the house and found it belonged to a woman named Miss Thomas she'd been out of town for days and no one had been at the house Ben and Liam were never found years later Sarah and
I are close anymore we text sometimes but we've both Moved on trying to forget that night but last night I saw something that brought it all back a house glowing purple with skeleton standing guard one dressed as Superman the other as the flash which story settings scared you the most let me know in the comments this happened about 12 years ago when I was in high school every fall my friends and I would go to this local corn maze it was kind of a tradition this time it was about a week before Halloween so the
place was packed with people and there was this extra layer of excitement in the air the corn maze we went to had two options a big regular Maze and a smaller haunted one now I love scary movies but haunted houses no way I could never handle those so my friends and I decided to stick to the regular Maze We bought our tickets and headed in thinking it'd be a fun chill time just wandering around trying to find the exit I don't remember exactly How long we had been walking maybe 20 or 30 minutes but we
were getting pretty deep into the maze it was quiet except for the rustling of cornstalks and the occasional sound of people in the distance suddenly we turned a corner and that's when we saw him there was this guy probably in his 20s lying on the ground curled up in a ball like he was hurt or something my heart immediately started racing and I could feel my stomach twist with unease my friend Sarah being braver than the rest of us called out hey are you okay what happened next is burned into my memory the guy jumped
up so fast it made us all Flinch when he stood up we could finally see his face it was painted completely white with these dark black circles around his eyes and a black outline around his mouth kind of like a creepy clown he didn't say a word just stared at us then without warning he started sprinting towards us Panic shot through Me I didn't even have time to think I just screamed and bolted in the opposite direction my legs barely able to keep up with how fast my heart was racing I was so scared that
honestly I peed myself a little this wasn't the haunted maze no one was supposed to jump out and chase you here my friends were screaming too and we all ran like our lives depended on it weaving through the maze trying to lose this guy I could hear his footsteps behind us for what felt like forever but After a minute or so they stopped I don't know if he gave up or if we just lost him in the twists and turns of the corn maze all I knew was that I wasn't slowing down until we were
far away from him we eventually found the exit and practically burst out still out of breath and shaking we made a beine for the ticket counter and told them everything about the guy lying on the ground his painted face and how he chased us the staff looked confused and They told us he wasn't one of their actors it wasn't part of the attraction they said they'd check it out but we didn't stick around looking back now it hits me how creepy that situation really was some grown man with his face painted like a clown lurking
in a maze where people could easily get lost and he was chasing us anything could have happened in that moment and we were lucky it didn't we never found out who he was or what he was doing there but to this day The memory of that night still gives me chills hey everyone I'm curious to know more about you all drop a comment below and let me know which country you're watching from I love seeing how far our community reaches so don't be shy I'll be reading through the comments this happened when I was in
high school and I worked part-time at a grocery store every Halloween it became a tradition for a group of us to hit up some kind of haunted attraction the First year we went to a haunted forest then a haunted corn maze where I started the Night by Falling face first into a mud puddle that was just the beginning we ended up getting stuck in a shed full of guys dressed like Jason Vorhees and were chased by Leatherface it was chaotic but a lot of fun fast forward to our third year of this tradition we decided
to check out a haunted Factory in a nearby City this was before everyone had smartphones so we relied on Printed directions there were three cars in our group and I was in the last car with my co-workers Noel and Janie now the people leading our group weren't the best at navigating and we ended up lost in a sketchy part of the city at one point we drove past a parking garage and heard someone's scream which wasn't exactly comforting things got worse when we got separated at a stoplight by the time the light turned green we
had lost sight of the rest of the group we drove Around talking on the phone trying trying to figure out where the others had gone I was in the back seat on the phone with Laura who was in the first car trying to give directions to Noel while Laura was doing the same with her husband who was driving their car it was a mess and we weren't getting anywhere eventually I told Noel just pull over somewhere and let them come find us now there were plenty of safe spots to pull over like a Burger King
parking lot or Some office building but Noel for reasons I still don't understand pulled into the parking lot of a really shady looking bar maybe it was because there was a big Key Bank sign nearby and it seemed like an easy Landmark for the others to spot so we parked and waited before long a line of seven cars pulled into the bars locked it was a Friday night so at first it didn't seem strange until they surrounded our car headlights aimed straight at us there was no way Out my heart dropped we about to get
robbed I whispered I told Noel and Jan to get their wallets ready hoping that if we gave them whatever cash we had they'd leave us alone I didn't have much and that scared me even more what if it wasn't enough Noel for some reason didn't seem all that concerned which baffled me meanwhile Janie was crying in the front seat terrified I tried to stay calm but my mind was racing the guy who seemed to be the leader of this group Got out of his car and walked straight toward us he reached our passenger side window
where Janie and and I were sitting and stared at us for what felt like forever then without a word he turned around and went back to his car one by one the other cars followed suit parking normally as if nothing had happened I wasn't about to stick around to see if they changed their minds Noel get to the Burger King now I ordered we eventually regrouped with the others and Made it to the haunted Factory funny enough the factory was far less scary than what we just gone through it might not sound Terri Ying when
I tell it now but in that moment I was sure something bad was going to happen I still think about it sometimes maybe they thought we were someone else maybe they were just messing with us or maybe they decided we didn't have enough to make it worth their while whatever the reason I was truly scared that night and even now 12 Years later I'm still wary of that City I work at the only Shoe Carnival in Adrian Michigan the store itself is pretty new built in 2018 so you wouldn't expect anything to go wrong yet
from the very first day strange things have been happening the registers will randomly beep like someone scan something even when no one's near them the fire alarms kept going off with false alarms even though they're part of a brand new system the security cameras have blacked Out multiple times and needed to be replaced and the radio that plays music over the intercom cuts out only to start back up on its own without anyone touching it one night after closing I was in the back office checking the security monitors there were only two of us left
in the store so I know for a fact no one else was there but I saw something on the monitor a black shadow moving past the socks aisle at first I thought it might have been my Imagination but then I noticed three rows of socks swaying like something had brushed by them I didn't tell anyone about the shadow but a few weeks later my manager saw something similar on the monitor near the back door he swore he saw a shadow move past but no one even uses that back door things only got weirder I've heard
whispering in the children's Department while cleaning up and I know I was alone the store radios we used to communicate were locked up And the overhead radio was off yet I could hear faint voices like they were trying to tell me something one time I even heard frantic pounding on the walls in the back office and doors slamming shut but when I asked if anyone else heard it no one had one night as I was closing up I caught something in the mirror's reflection it darted across the children's Department back and forth but again no
one was in the store except for me and the manager it was dead quiet Things go missing all the time too box cutters display shoes pricing guns only to be found in the weirdest places we found them shoved behind boxes or on top of shelves that are so high you'd need a ladder to reach them recently another employee heard a strange hissing sound in the back office a few minutes later our manager heard the same thing in the stock room Adrien has a deep history with much of it built on former Native American Battlegrounds some
say the land Itself holds Spirits with Halloween coming up I've been thinking about using a Ouija board in the store just to see if I can get any answers but honestly I'm not sure I want to know we've heard the stories about how dangerous Ouija boards can be if you've made it to the end of this congrats you survived I just hope I make it through Halloween anyone living in Harper County Indiana knows about the pumpkin farm just off Maple Road every October it's a Big event families come to pick out pumpkins kids run around
in costumes and the main attraction is always the corn maze every year they grow a new one and it's become a tradition for people to come especially at night when the maze feels even more mysterious I'd gone for years with my friends and family but one year stands out more than any other I was in Middle School at the time tagging along with my best friend and her older brother her mom stayed outside while the Three of us headed into the maze my friend and I full of energy giggled and screamed at every little thing
while her older brother decided to chase us for fun adding to the thrill at some point I got separated from them I could hear her brother's footsteps close behind so with a big grin I took off down one of the paths hoping to lose him I glanced over my shoulder to see if he was still following and that's when it happened I slammed straight into the wall of the Maze now I should explain the walls weren't just corn stocks they had tough plastic mesh strung up between metal poles to keep people on the right path
and stop anyone from cheating by cutting through I felt the mesh smack against my arm arms chest and face and then suddenly I was on the other side it didn't make any sense I stood up dusting myself off and looked around the part of the maze I was in now was completely quiet no voices no footsteps nothing I Turned around expecting to see a hole or tier in the mesh where I'd crashed through but it was untouched the plastic was still taut the pole Still Standing I stared at it completely confused I pressed my hand
against the mesh it was strong just like it had been before but how had I ended up on this side my heart was racing now not from excitement but from something else fear I could still feel the faint burn of the plastic on my arms and cheek proof that I'd hit it but Here I was on the other side with no explanation of how I'd gotten there for a few moments I just stood there trying to make sense of it all but nothing added up I was spooked and the silence around me wasn't helping I
decided to move heading deeper into the the ma to find my friends I didn't want to be alone anymore The Thrill of the night had turned into something else entirely and all I wanted was to find my way out when I was about 9 or 10 my cousin And I were out trick-or-treating on Halloween we were walking a bit ahead of my mom and aunt going from house to house it was just a normal Halloween night nothing out of the ordinary we lived in a pretty Rundown part of the city so we didn't think twice
about knocking on the door of this house that looked a little worn down but still like any other house in the area when the door opened an old lady stood there she looked creepy but not in a way that Would make you run more like someone who had been through a rough time her hair was dirty she was hunched over and she had these really long finger nails the thing that stood out the most though was her smile it was huge like she was too happy to see us we were used to seeing people who
didn't quite look right in our neighborhood so at first nothing felt off but then she started trying to get us to come inside the candy bowl is too big to carry she said repeating Herself over and over you have to come in and get it my cousin and I exchanged looks something about the way she kept insisting didn't sit right with us we slowly started to back away but just as we were about to leave we heard a toilet flush from inside the house a door creaked open and an an old man appeared probably her
husband he walked out grabbed a candy bowl from the counter and handed us a couple of pieces he looked at his wife and said no they're Trick-or-treaters almost like he had to remind her what we were there for then he shut the door and the porch light turned off immediately at the time I didn't think much of it people acted weird all the time in our neighborhood and I guess I was so used to it that nothing really phased me we had heard stories from classmates about strange things happening during Halloween but it didn't really
click with me that we might have been in danger it wasn't Until a few years later after we moved away from that neighborhood that I started to realize how strange that night really was looking back now I think about how close we were to going inside that house and I wonder what might have happened if that old man hadn't shown up when he did it's unsettling to think about but at the time it felt like just another weird moment in the place I called home I just left a Halloween party Buzzing with energy and dressed
as Beetlejuice my friends and I had spent the night laughing dancing and sharing spooky stories it was one of those fun Carefree evenings that you don't want to end but as the Clock Struck midnight it was time for me to head home I hopped into an Uber still buzzing from the night's festivities and was dropped off a few blocks from my house as I stepped out I scanned the area for a food truck I had seen a couple of them on my way to The party and my stomach growled at the thought of a late
night snack I felt pretty safe walking around this part of town was Lively and busy not known for any crime so I didn't think twice about wandering the streets alone at night plus I'd only had one or two drinks just enough to feel warm and relaxed but not enough to dull my senses I started my search on Melrose Avenue but the food trucks seemed elusive I decided to cut through a residential block hoping to Find something on the next street over the night air was cool and crisp and I felt a thrill from being out
in the world even if it was just me as I walked I had the urge to listen to some music so I pulled out my phone to queue up the song big mistake I was so focused on my screen tapping away that I didn't notice the man running behind me until he was almost on top of me everything happened in an instant I turned just as I heard the Pounding of footsteps approaching fast and my heart raced with panic I instinctively stepped aside just as he stumbled over some Fallen Palm leaves that were hidden in
the shadows he barely managed to keep his balance but didn't stop I said something like are you okay but he didn't reply he just kept running at full speed until he turned the corner disappearing from my view I stood there my heart pounding feeling a chill creep creep down my Spine the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I scanned the street for anyone else there was no one behind him no one in front of him just me and the quiet of the night the calm ordinary surroundings now felt Eerie as if
the night had suddenly turned against me why was he running like that in the middle of the night wearing dark clothes not in any kind of running gear a million thoughts raced through my mind what if he was running from something or someone Or what if he was up to no good and I just happened to be in his way the fear settled in my gut heavy and cold I couldn't shake the feeling that something sinister had just happened what if I hadn't heard His Feet pounding on the pavement what if those Fallen Palm leaves
hadn't tripped him I shivered at the thought my instincts screamed at me to get home quickly I quickened my Pace trying to shake off the fear and regain a sense of normaly But every shadow felt darker and every rustle of leav felt like a warning as I walked faster my mind raced I replayed the scene over and over thinking about how close I had been to a potential danger what if I had been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time the world around me once vibrant and inviting felt more like a maze filled
with hidden threats I finally spotted a food truck down the street and hurried towards it hoping to distract myself with the smell Of grilled food and the chatter of other late night Wanderers but even even as I stood there waiting for my order I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched I glanced around half expecting to see the man reappear from the Shadows the night had transformed from a fun Halloween adventure into a haunting reminder that danger could lurk in the most unexpected places my heart raced as I realized that the world isn't
always as safe as we think and sometimes It's better to trust our instincts when something feels off when I was about 5 or 6 years old my grandma used to own an antique shop and my mom helped her run it one cold and dark day we went to a yard sale to help my grandma find some new stuff for the shop it was me my mom my grandma and my sister while we were browsing through the items my mom found something she thought would be perfect for decorating our house for Halloween it was a small
Broom decked out in Halloween colors black and orange but the thing that stuck out to me was this creepy ornament in the middle of the handle it was an old ugly witch's face with a pointy hat I remember being terrified of it and I didn't even want to go near it but of course my mom decided to buy it one Sunday my grandma asked my mom to run an errand we were all at the shop my grandma my mom my sister and me my sister who was about 20 at the time Loved to mess with
me and she thought the witch Brun was the perfect tool to scare me she started chasing me around the shop with with it taunting me saying the witch is going to get you Chanel she's going to eat you up I was terrified and started crying mama make Tisha stop she's being mean to me my sister had teased me with that broom a few times before but this time my mom had had enough she got so annoyed that she stopped what she was doing walked Out of the car opened the trunk snatched the broom out of
my sister's hands and threw it out of the car then she slammed the trunk door shut and turned to me wipe your tears away way baby mommy made everything better she said it in a calm reassuring voice and I felt better knowing that the broom was gone later that day my grandma came out of the shop and it had started getting dark pretty quickly there was even lightning flashing in the sky we rushed to drop my Grandma off at her house which wasn't far since we all lived on the same street our house was on
a corner and my grandparents house was further down at the end of the street as we turned the Corner toward my grandma's house I noticed something on the second door of her house the screen door I couldn't quite make out what it was but I Shrugged it off thinking maybe my mom had hung up some decorations earlier that day we said goodbye to my grandma Waved to my grandpa and then started heading home but the wind had really started to pick up by then when we got home and stepped out of the car something immediately
felt off we all had confused looks on our faces as we walked up the steps to our front door and that's when I saw it hanging perfectly on the wooden door behind the screen door as if it had never been thrown out was the witch's broom the same one my mom had tossed earlier that Day I was frozen in fear and I swear I was so scared I almost wet myself none of us could believe it we had all seen my mom throw that broom out but there it was right on our door like it
had found its way back to us we kept that broom until we moved after having a garage sale when I was about 13 I'm 32 now and I still have strange paranormal things happening to me almost every day at this point it doesn't scare me anymore because I've been through so much but Back then before all the other weird stuff started when I first saw that witch broom hanging there I was more scared than I've ever been in my life I need to give a little bit of background before I get into the story because
it plays a role in what happened growing up I was known as the Troublemaker I'd sneak out at night and explore abandoned buildings with all sorts of ghost stories tied to them I wasn't expecting to find anything Terrifying just small paranormal things sometimes I'd hear weird sounds or see something out of the corner of my eye that disappeared when I looked again but nothing too crazy I remember seeing my first ghost when I was just 4 years old my memory is a a little fuzzy because I was so young but I swear my dead grandfather
visited me and my younger brother in the middle of the night when he left I screamed waking up my parents even my mom admitted she Heard her dad's voice through the baby monitor saying good night dear by the time she got to my room there were bloody Footprints leading from the hallway to my crib and they stopped right at the edge now fast forward to Halloween night when I was 15 I felt too old to go trick-or-treating but I still had to take my younger siblings around since my dad was away for work and my
mom was too busy studying I ran into a few friends who were also babysitting Their younger siblings and we decided to meet up after we were done with the trick-or-treating rounds when all the little ones were done we gathered at an Old Bridge trying to figure out how to entertain ourselves for the rest of the night one of my friends brought up this old ghost story about a White House in the swamp not too far from where we were this wasn't just any house it was one my mom had always warned me to stay away
from She'd been there before and had her own bad experiences but that's a story for another time the tale goes that back in the day a man caught his wife cheating on him with a slave she was pregnant with the slave's child and they planned to run away together that night the man lost it he killed his wife the children and the slave in horrific ways hanging his wife and the unborn baby from a bell tower chopping up one of the kids in the woods and drowning the other In a pool he tortured the slave
to death before finally killing himself in the front room of the house the bodies were found a week later and to this day people say the house is haunted after my friend told the story everyone went quiet we were all spooked but then she challenged us who's brave enough to go inside everyone backed down except for me and of of course she dared me to go in with her I didn't really want to but I wasn't about to chicken out in front Of everyone so I agreed we made our way to the house the others
staying behind at a safe distance just close enough to see what was happening the house looked run down boarded up with just enough cracks in the windows and door for us to slip through we had flashlights and turned them on as soon as we got inside the air felt heavy and musty like mildew but nothing too unusual for an old abandon in place we walked around exploring room after room not really Expecting to see anything but the whole time I had this gut feeling that we shouldn't be there after we'd seen the whole house my
friend seemed relieved that nothing spooky had happened we decided to sit down near a window and wait until midnight since that's when the real scary stuff was supposed to happen as we sat there I could feel the minutes dragging on each second feeling like an hour then at at 11:59 something shifted the temperature dropped and I Felt this icy chill run down my spine I woke my friend and she immediately grabbed my arm her grip so tight it hurt then the house started shaking I mean literally shaking like we were in the middle of an
earthquake we both jumped to our feet terrified the shaking stopped after a minute but the air was colder than ever and it felt like it was pressing down on us then we heard them voices dozens of voices all around us they weren't angry just talking laughing Like we were at a party but slowly all the voices faded away except for one a deep grally voice full of hatred I couldn't understand what it was saying but it kept getting louder until it roared out that was it we ran my heart was pounding and I was sprinting
toward the door as fast as I could but just as I was about to make it out I tripped over a loose floorboard and fell hard on my leg I scrambled up Jing the rest of the way out my friend was already Outside crying and terrified the others helped me and we made our way to the hospital the doctor didn't believe a word of our story of course but we knew what we'd heard and felt my mom was Furious but honestly I was just glad to be out of that house it's been 7 years since
that night and every time my knee aches from that fall I remember the voices I don't know what we experienced in that house but it was real too real and it changed the way I think about What happens after we die some of us don't leave so peacefully it's for your own protection my father said quietly as he checked each of the Seven Locks on the door one by one the soft click of each bolt echoed in the Stillness of the room Penelope and I sat on the couch watching him from the Shadows his hands
trembled slightly as he fumbled with the knobs his fingertips tracing the edges of of the new padlock with a kind of obsessive Gentleness the last rays of the sunset crept through the curtains casting Long Shadows and lighting up dust modes that floated aimlessly in the heavy air my father his shirt damp with sweat and his hair wild looked more exhausted than I'd ever seen him his eyes sunken and glassy from too many sleepless nights were filled with a grim unshakable worry for weeks he'd been telling us that Halloween was cancelled this year that we'd be
staying inside all the lights Off doors locked and windows covered no trick-or-treating no parties nothing he didn't give us much of an explanation Beyond a nervous jittery warning the kind we had grown used to over the years the kind that always came after something bad had happened I could tell from the way he loomed over us when he spoke that there'd be no arguing this time he wasn't going to let us outside no matter what those locks were his way of making sure of it from our darkened Living room Penelope and I could still see
other kids running down the street in their costumes bags swinging as they laughed and darted from house to house I felt her tents beside me her small hands squeezing mine as she watched them her voice cracked slightly as she finally spoke eyes still glued to the scene outside I don't understand why we can't just go out for a little bit we could stay right in front of the house where you can see us I could hear the Desperation in her voice but she didn't dare turn to look at Dad she was staring out the window
at a boy in a skeleton costume with a Jack-o-Lantern bucket in hand he stopped at the edge of our driveway glanced up at the house for a moment and then shuffled off to the next one no my father's voice cut through the air like a sharp blade I told you already Halloween is canceled for us we're staying in no lights no visitors no exceptions I have to keep you both Safe there was a pause before he muttered especially with the kind of stunts your mother's been pulling lately I squeezed Penelope's hand but neither of us
needed to ask what he meant for the past week our mother had been circling the house like a shadow her black sedan had shown up in the driveway more times than we could count though she never got out of the car the one time she did she looked a wreck Disheveled and teary eyed casting anxious glances over her shoulder we could tell by the way her car swerved in the driveway that she'd been drinking again that night she'd come all the way up the driveway past the overgrown bushes and tried the back door dad didn't
know she still had a key the sound of her fumbling with the lock sent him into a rage he met her at the door just as she got it open and slammed it shut in her face the loud crack of the Door echoed through the house as she stumbled back clutching her bloody nose she didn't stop screaming until she reached her car and sped off since then Dad had nailed the back door shut with heavy wooden planks it's only a matter of time before she comes back he' muttered under his breath that night Penelope sighed
heavily beside me her fingers pulling at her damp hair as the last bits of daylight disappeared from the sky the street outside was now a River of Shadows with only the flickering porch lights Illuminating the trick-or-treaters as they dashed from house to house a group of kids just as pirates passed by their swords glinting in the dim light across the street a bunch of high school girls probably our age strutted down the sidewalk in short dresses and witch hats headed for some Halloween party I could feel Penelope's disappointment radiating off her in Waves Halloween had
always been her Favorite holiday she loved the costumes the decorations the spooky stories and most of all the candy missing it was bad enough but being stuck inside and watching it all pass by made it unbearable she scoffed when I tried to reassure her it'll be okay pen there's always next year she shook her head biting her lip how do you know next year will be any different dad's always like this always paranoid always keeping us locked up he's been like this ever since M left what makes you think anything's going to change I didn't
have an answer for that so instead I just slung my arm around her and pulled her close we'll figure it out we won't be stuck here forever she didn't seem convinced I'm going upstairs she said after a long pause standing up from the couch I've had enough of this just as I was about to follow her we both froze the gravel in the driveway crunched under the Weight of a car pulling in a bright light pierced through the blinds flooding the room Penelope and I scrambled to the window peering through the narrow slits and the
shades a familiar black sedan sat at the end of the driveway dad Penelope shouted backing away from the window dad someone's here we heard his heavy footsteps from the other room but before he could reach us the car doors opened four figures stepped out Their Silhouettes dark against the street lights as they approached I could make out what they were carrying one had a crowbar another had bolt cutters and one had a baseball bat slung over his shoulder get down dad barked as he grabbed Penelope and me dragging us down down the hallway to the
back of the house we passed the boarded up door and headed for the basement he pulled the door open and shoved us inside stay here do not come out no matter what you hear His voice was low and urgent I don't know what your mother's planning but they're not getting in here not tonight he slammed the door behind us locking it from the outside Penelope and I stood there clutching each other in the pitch black basement the sound of our shallow breathing the only noise around us then we heard it the front door groaned splintered
wood cracking under the pressure something smashed against the window shattering glass footsteps echoed Above us heavy and slow as they crept through the house my heart pounded in my chest and Penelope's Nails dug into my arm the silence stretched on suffocating until suddenly the lock on the basement door clicked the door knob turned and the door swam open there they were the four boys standing in the doorway their faces twisted into half grins the light from their flashlight beamed straight into our faces I tried to scream to move but I couldn't I was frozen in
place as They stepped toward us here we are the boy in the skeleton costume sneered just what we were looking for they moved closer their Shadows swallowing us whole and I realized with a sinking dread that we were trapped Penelope clutched my arm her breath ragged what do they want she whispered her voice barely audible I don't know I breathed my heart hammering in my chest just stay behind me the skeleton boy stepped into the room his boots Thuing against the basement floor he raised the Crowbar in his hand twirling it casually the other boys
hung back their expressions unreadable in the dim light your mom told us you'd be down here the boy said his eyes glinting with a strange mix of amusement and Malice she said we could find something interesting Penelope whimpered behind me but I stood firm my fists clenched at my sides what are you talking about I demanded my voice wavering despite my Attempt to sound Brave what does our mother have to do with this the boy in the skeleton costume tilted his head as if considering my question then with a casual shrug he said she said
you'd have what she wants that you're the Kea I blinked confused te to what he grinned to keeping things quiet he tapped the Crowbar against his palm the sound echoing in the small room see your mom's in a bit of a mess ow some people bad people and she said if we made sure you Stayed put those people would get off her back for good Penelope gasped and I felt my stomach drop you're lying I said though my voice didn't carry the conviction I'd hoped for she wouldn't she would the boy interrupted stepping closer his
breath smelled like cigarettes and something sour she already did behind me Penelope sobbed quietly her body trembling against mine I wanted to protect her to fight back but I was paralyzed how could our own Mother betray us like this how could she send these boys here to what hurt us kill us the skeleton boy raised his crowbar but before he could swing a deafening bang echoed through the basement the boys all froze their heads snapping toward the doorway there stood my father wild-eyed and breathless a shotgun clutched in his Trembling Hands his chest heaved with
exertion and his face was flushed with Fury get away from my daughters he growled his voice a low Rumble that sent a shiver down my spine the skeleton boy faltered his grip on the Crowbar loosening waa waa man he said raising his hands in mock surrender no need to get all crazy the shotgun fired a blinding flash of light and the skeleton boy screamed dropping the Crowbar as he clutched his bleeding arm the other boys scattered their faces pale with fear as they stumbled over one another in their haste to escape Escape get out my
father bellowed his voice Thick with rage get out or the next one won Miss the boys didn't need to be told twice they bolted up the stairs and out of the house their panicked footsteps Fading Into the Night for a moment the basement was deathly quiet save for the Ragged breathing of my father and the soft whimpers of Penelope I stared at the shotgun in his hands my heart pounding in my ears dad I whispered he turned to face us his eyes Hollow his face a mask of exhaustion slowly he Lowered the gun it's okay
he said his voice barely above a whisper it's over you're safe now but I wasn't sure I believed him not after what we just heard Penelope spoke first her voice trembling dad did mom really send them here did she I don't know he interrupted his voice thick with emotion I don't know what she's thinking anymore the silence stretched between us heavy and suffocating Penelope and I exchanged a glance the same question hanging in the Air unspoken but undeniable how had it come to this how had our family become so broken so dangerous after what felt
like an eternity my father spoke again his voice cracking with the weight of it all I did everything I could to protect you he said his hands trembling as he lowered the shotgun everything but she your mother she won't stop until she gets what she wants Penelope shook her head tears streaming down her face what does she want she asked her voice barely A whisper he didn't answer right away his eyes glazed with a kind of haunted resignation darted to the boarded up back door his jaw clenched as he said quietly Revenge my blood ran
cold I didn't understand revenge for what as if reading my mind my father finally turned to face us his voice low and Hollow she blames me for everything for what happened before she left she's trying to destroy us and tonight was just the beginning beginning Penelope looked at Me her eyes wide with fear and I knew we were thinking the same thing this wasn't over not by a long shot Halloween might be canceled tonight but the real horror had only just begun hey everyone thanks for listening if you stuck around until the end don't forget
