a new inside Advantage poll conducted after the presidential debate finds that former president Trump has a slight lead on vice president Harris in Michigan 49% of Voters say they support Trump 48% back Harris that is within of course the margin of error but Trump's Advantage includes a five-point lead with the independent voter in that state I want to bring in Republican conference secretary Michigan congresswoman Lisa mlan she's a member of the House oversight armed services education and the workforce and budget committees congresswoman good morning to you talk about the reaction that you are hearing from
your constituents in Michigan to what they saw on the debate stage Tuesday night yeah um positive I I would say is michiganders are tired of the failed policies of the Biden Harris Administration um they understand that those failed policies are costing them more money and more importantly they're costing them jobs and specifically in in key districts like mine m home county which is heavily Auto um heavily manufacturing not only is it costing them on average $1,000 a month more but these EV mandates they understand are costing them jobs and the layoffs have already started so
what I share with everybody is there's three issues that are important to michiganders it's the economy the economy and the economy and you can say whatever you want to say Harris can say whatever she wants to say but these policies Mr ganders have lived through and they're not positive well you know on the debate stage on Tuesday night you know that President former president Trump did slam her uh when it came to the issue of the economy he said quote she is Biden and he said they've got no idea what a good economy is their
oil policy everal policy uh she she's Biden uh she's trying to get away from Biden did that resonate you think in particular with as you mentioned the EV mandate that came from the Biden Harris Administration yeah it it mandates or excuse me it it resonates especially the EV mandates remember she was out there touting the green New Deal the green New Deal why are you running away from it now why the reason is because you know it doesn't work and I'll share with you people in my state are good hardworking people they want the government
to get out of the way they don't want the government to mandate what they need to drive and they also know that difference is you have the Biden Harris Administration we've lived under it you've also had the Trump Administration and michiganders have lived under that and it was extremely prosperous at all different levels but especially for the middle class all right let's talk about what's been going on this week in Washington everyone's back to work and a lot has been happening congresswoman so the house passed 25 crucial bills focused on protecting Americans from the China
threat dur during China week that was this week and has been one of the bills is the end Chinese dominance of electric vehicles act it passed yesterday with support from Seven Democrats actually and this would amend the Internal Revenue code uh the IRS code to of 1986 to exclude electric vehicle battery sourced from a foreign ENT entity of concern which would be China from the clean Vehicle tax credit that's a big push against those tax credits obviously and this would you know close that so-called Chinese billionaire loophole Congressman mlan so you voted in favor of
the bill uh tell us more absolutely why are we funding our destroyers China is not our friend they're coming after us educationally militarily and most of all economically why are we subsidizing China makes zero sense to me and I'll share with you that's not going to happen under my watch also what we're doing is we're incentive iing EV mandates well if the mandates are so good and everybody wants them why do we need to subsidize them period let alone subsidize China who is one of our biggest adversaries I mean they're threatening China is threatening our
Auto industry of which I take very seriously coming from the state of Michigan I want to support American companies and American workers not Chinese companies and if we're going to give any subsidies which I don't think we need to give anyways but if we are going to give them we're going to give them to American workers not Chinese workers this week you were part of a group that honored the 13 service members that we lost at abig gate in Afghanistan in 2021 uh there is a piece by Joseph Steinberg this Sternberg this morning in the
Wall Street Journal and he talks about that 350 page policy postmortem on Afghanistan I want to get your quick reaction Where Do We Go From Here who can we hold accountable uh as far as that disaster that was 2021 who do you want to see held accountable the Biden Harris Administration it's clear um but again I want to go through due process let's go through the reports let's go through it line by line um you know I was it was a very sober sombering ceremony and I was happy to lead the legislation to at least
honor the the 13 service members that made the ultimate sacrifice I mean we had an opportunity again to meet with the families and to look in their eyes and feel their sorrow it hurt and it hurt even more knowing that it was preventable that was what was so touching and I think Mike Johnson did something that these families had been waiting for for three years he said two very powerful words and those were I'm sorry so you know it was tragic and it was preventable but more importantly what we wanted to do was just recognize
their sacrifice but rest assured we will get to the bottom of accountability we will be looking forward to the work that you will be doing on this issue congresswoman Lisa clean thank you very much congresswoman we'll be right back everybody thank you have a great day
