Welcome to Lucerne, Switzerland! It’s my first time here, and I really loved the city — I was truly amazed! The architecture, the beautiful lake, the riverside promenade — everything is so picturesque and full of atmosphere.
Get ready for a beautiful walk! Lucerne (or Luzern in German) is one of the most beautiful and charming cities in Switzerland, located in the heart of the country. Lucerne sits on the shores of Lake Lucerne and at the foot of the Swiss Alps.
It is one of the oldest cities in central Switzerland. It began as a small fishing village on the shores of Lake Lucerne. We’re now approaching the Church of St.
Leodegar. We’ll definitely step inside — it’s absolutely beautiful. There was already a church on this site in the 8th century, but the current building was constructed between 1633 and 1639 — during the Thirty Years’ War.
It’s one of the few large Renaissance churches in Switzerland — and it truly stands out architecturally. Let’s get back to the history of the city. The first mention of Lucerne in documents was in 1178.
Its location made it an important trade route through the Alps. How do you like Lucerne? Share your thoughts in the comments:) Do you remember the lion sculpture we saw at the beginning of the video?
The Lion Monument is one of Lucerne’s most famous landmarks. It was carved into a rock wall in 1821. The sculpture shows a dying lion.
It honors the Swiss Guards who died in 1792. They were killed while protecting the French king in Paris. Today, Lucerne is known not only for its historic beauty but also as a center of music.
Every year, it hosts the Lucerne Festival. It’s one of the top classical music festivals in Europe. Now we’ll take a short walk along the lake, then head toward the riverside promenade and see some of the city’s most famous landmarks.
