laziness it's a word that carries a heavy weight doesn't it a word that makes us uncomfortable a word that stings in the eyes of many laziness is more than just a bad habit it's a moral failing and in the teachings of many faiths including Christianity laziness is condemned as a sin God hates lazy people some say drawing from scriptures that call for diligence hard work and a life of purpose but let's pause for a moment and think about what that really means what does it mean to say that God hates laziness what is it about
being lazy that is so wrong so against what we're supposed to be in the Bible the Book of Proverbs is filled with warnings about the dangers of laziness proverbs 6:9-11 says how long will you lie there you sluggard when will you get up from your sleep a little sleep a little slumber a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man these words are a call to action a reminder that life is not meant to be spent in idleness laziness in this context
isn't just about being physically inactive or not doing work it's about a deeper spiritual condition a refusal to fulfill the purpose for which we were created God has given each of us unique gifts talents and opportunities and to waste those is to squander the life that has been given to us it's not just about avoiding work it's about avoiding responsibility avoiding growth avoiding becoming the person God wants us to be when we choose laziness we are choosing to ignore the call to live a life of meaning and purpose we are choosing to neglect the needs
of others to ignore the cries of the world and to turn a blind eye to the potential within us in a way we are choosing to turn our backs on God's plan for our lives but here's the thing God doesn't hate people God hates the sin of laziness because it robs us of the fullness of life that we are meant to experience it keeps us from becoming our best selves from contributing to the world from fulfilling our divine potential God wants us to thrive to grow to be active participants in our own own lives and
in the lives of others so what does it mean for us then does it mean that if we have ever been lazy we are Beyond Redemption does it mean that we are condemned to a life of guilt and shame absolutely not God's love is greater than our flaws greater than our sins greater than our laziness but his love also calls us to something higher something better it calls us to to wake up to get up to rise above our tendency to take the easy way out it calls us to work hard not just for the
sake of work but to fulfill the purpose that God has placed in each of our hearts it's not about being perfect it's not about never resting or always pushing ourselves to the Limit it's about balance about finding the rhythm of work and rest that allows us to live fully and Faithfully it's about using our gifts our time and our energy in a way that honors God and serves others God hates laziness not because he is Harsh or unkind but because he knows what we are capable of he knows the incredible potential that lies within each
of us and he wants us to see it too he wants us to live lives of meaning lives of purpose lives that reflect his love and his light to the world so if you've been feeling stuck if you've been struggling with laziness know that it's not too late you can start today right now to make a change you can choose to get up to move forward to live with intention and purpose you can choose to honor the life you've been given and to live it to the fullest because that's what God wants for you A
life that is Rich fulfilling and meaningful a life that is anything but lazy
