[Music] hello everyone this is Lindy today I'm going to show you how I set up a language Journal this journal I got from dinor station which is a brand in Thailand and it's just a simple calendar diary right so it's the end of May and I'm going to make it for June which is the 6th month everybody did in Korean sometimes just a habit the 1st of June is a Friday I think oh my gosh I have to go check now hold on right so the 1st of June is actually a Monday and I'm going
to write one there and I'm just going to continue for the rest of the month of June because it is a um undated diary you can use absolutely oh my gosh I can't count that's a seven I should not talk while writing numbers you can use any any diary that you want like you can draw this out yourself you can get a dated diary you can get an undated diary some diaries that I really like are from Muji if you can order them online I really recommend those 29 and 30 30 30 days in June
so I have a bunch of colors for my pens and I'm going to allocate a color to each language and I'm going to start with the ones that are the most important to me so that that's what I'm going to Define here on the side a little color code so red is going to be for Japanese and then let's take blue no let's take this teal pen from Muji for Hungarian cuz I really want to focus on Hungarian I'm actually quitting my job um on Friday which is 2 days from now and then I will
have a lot of time to study languages I'm so excited for my freedom let's do a bit of Korean as well there reason I'm doing this journal in like the middle of the year is because your girl has been going through it I've been in and out of hospital I have not been well um which is why I'm quitting my job for health reasons doctors don't really know what's wrong long story short I'm only feeling better now so that I can start doing things I love like learning languages all right so we have Japanese Hungarian
Korean let's put some Spanish in here cuz I do need to be practicing that why not let's add [Music] French okay let's think of other languages why do I not remember what I'm learning okay Chinese ooh I have been wanting to get back into Vietnamese thing Viet just Vietnamese all right so I've got three four 5 six seven languages that I need to be putting in for the month of June since this month is free for me and I've quit my job I am able to plot it out just how I like I am however
still working on my Master's thesis so that needs to take priority and what I've set out for myself is to work 5 hours on my Master's thesis every day except weekends which I will be resting on resting during the weekend I think I can realistically like if I'm counting working out as well seeing friends cooking whatever I can realistically spend about 2 hours maybe 3 hours on language learning every day and back when I was a student I maybe like 4 hours a day but not every day you need to rest there are different ways
that you can plan how you want to do your languages especially if you're learning multiple languages so some people like to have a week per a language so if I have 3 four 5 6 seven languages it's going to take me like a month and uh 3 weeks or so and some people like to do it every every day a different language so maybe Mondays are for Japanese uh Tuesdays are for Hungarian Etc me I do prefer rather having like a list of tasks for each language that I want to do like when I have
time in the day I'll pick from a task but one thing I always tell my coaching clients and if you're interested in language coaching you can go to super.com Lindy bues and I'm very happy to do a coaching session with you to plan your language learning resource recommendations managing your time um accountability what what I always tell my my clients rather try out a new language learning method or schedule for 2 weeks at least and see does it work for you if not you go back and iterate and you do like start stop continue which
is what do I want to start doing that I haven't done yet what do I need to stop that's clearly not working in my schedule and what do I want to continue which is working really well so I'm applying that advice to myself and I'm going to try a new schedule which is actually dedicating um about a week or something to a specific language so I'm going to start with the ones that are the most important to me and my thesis is about um Japanese Aesthetics and avantgar Japanese graphic design in the post-war era so
my mind is kind of like in a Japanese space so I'm actually going to start and give myself about a week which is fully focused on Japanese put a little red dot to indicate that it is for Japanese I'm not going to go and write the name of the language on every single block and then what's also important to me is Hungarian I haven't been practicing that for a while let me give myself like 5 days of Hungarian next Spanish I kind of don't feel in the mood for Spanish just yet but I do be
feeling the French mood coming so I'm going to give myself maybe six days of French okay you know what see I'm showing you my thinking process process and how my brain works as I go along with this like there's no magic method to do this I just thought it would be interesting to show you like literally what goes through my mind so since Hungarian um is still new for me compared to French I'm going to give myself six days of Hungarian and a rest day but French I don't need so many I so many days
maybe 5 days of learning French I don't know if I'm loving the whole one week per language thing so I'm going to try it out for these three weeks and then I'm going to try and do two languages a day and see how that will work splitting up the time so because Spanish and Mandarin Chinese are so different I'm not going to confuse them so let me do Spanish and Mandarin Chinese together and I've been learning them for a while so it's not like I'm starting both of them from scratch and I'm trying two different
methods of scheduling to really see what works for me cuz everyone is different and then all that's left is Korean and Vietnamese you know what I'm going to do Korean is so easy for me now because I've been learning it for like 14 years or so and usually what I'm doing with Korean now is just like reading books so I'm going to put Korean on the weekends because it's more of a passive learning and then I've got Vietnamese left and I will just put it on these last two days and then transfer it over into
the next month Vietnamese is a challenge for me so I'm not going to add any other language to that day I could do French and Japanese at the same time because they're very different and my Japanese is probably better than my French maybe a break and another day of Japanese so it's quite random but I'm excited to try this out and see if it's going to work now the next thing that I want to do is give myself tasks whoops so I am reading a few books in Japanese and I'm going to give myself like
a weekend where I'm going to just focus on reading I'm just putting book here cuz it's the shortest and then I do need to focus on some grammar and vocabulary acquisition okay so something I'm doing a lot these days is watching a ton of YouTube in Japanese specifically um around journaling and notebooks and what I'm going to do is spend the first two days doing immersive YouTube video watching what I mean by immersive is actually writing down the new words that I'm encountering most Japanese creators do put subtitles like on the screen embed embed subtitles
so I can easily copy down a word that I don't know and then I'm going to do some textbook learning because I need to up my grammar so I've got intensive YouTube watching textbooks and then kind of extensive book reading next one is Hungarian I need to book some more lessons the best way I'm learning Hungarian is by doing some it talkie lessons so I'm going to give myself whoops 2 days Hungarian lessons just to get back into it I do have a $10 discount code if you do want to try out italki which is

days that I have my lessons I'm going to just uh listen wow podcast I cannot talk and write podcast podcast so that I can listen to podcasts not as an active form of studying but kind of passive all right so we've got more Japanese coming up this week I need more textbook practice and reading I don't want to have textbook study every day and then we got French I love reading so I am going to and then use a textbook Korean literally just reading just TOA and toaw and then next we have Mandarin Chinese I
will be using the app do Chinese which is like a reading app which I also have a link for in my bio um honestly it's like the best app I've ever used for Chinese so please do check it out do I want to do that every day nah I'm going to build in a review day because Chinese is still hard for me I'm giving myself two review days to review the previous day's work and then ding VI which is Vietnamese and I need to pretty much start from the basics again so I'm going to be
reviewing my uh Vietnamese notes and just try and get myself back into it I think I've done everything and now since there's a bit of space left at the bottom of these squares or at the top here I'm going to be writing how many minutes I spend on each task and obviously going to give myself a little tick if I have done it if I haven't done it that's not the end of the world this is an ideal plan not necessarily like enforcing this because life happens and studying every day might be hard but these
things generally I think they'll take me like an hour to an hour and a half maybe 2 hours to do and it's going to give me still a lot of time to work on my thesis because I need to do at least 5 hours of that so basically everything I'm going to be doing in June is just thesis and learning languages and to summarize I'm going to try doing Japanese for one week Hungarian for one week and then for these last two weeks I'm going to try to see how it is to be doing two
