Well, yellow journalism garbage rag Time magazine released arguably the most putrid and inept listicle I have ever seen in my entire life, which has spanned all of this current century. By the way, an important distinction because I have seen all of the athletes of this century and I am talking about Time magazine's athlete of the century list. Which, quick sidebar, since when do we compile anything of the century rankings?
when said century is only one quarter of the way over. Anyway, when I say this thing is bad, I mean, holy it is even worse than the bleacher report filth I have covered in the past that slanders the ever loving hell out of Kobe Bryant. But yes, this this right here made Time magazine the worst of all time.
That one right there made me the greatest player of all time. Not only did they name LeBron James as the athlete of the century, they didn't even include the actual athlete of the century on the list at all. Let's start though with James, who has undeniably done more in my mind and in several of the minds of actual NBA fans that populate this planet to hurt the sport in which he represents than he has to help it.
But you certainly wouldn't know it by reading the article written about the League Destroyer in Time magazine. It reads more like a propaganda piece mixed with a smut novel that was penned by Rich Paul with the use of Chat GPT. Here is a pulse pounding excerpt of the article quoting a professor of race and popular culture at USC.
quote, "Add in his off-court accomplishments, and James may be the most influential athlete of the past half century. " In the decades before his arrival, superstar athletes mostly stayed in their lane. James ushered in the era of player empowerment, showing that you can start companies, mix it up in politics, [music] and elevate the people around you, all while playing like the goat of your game.
I don't think it's a stretch at all to say LeBron is one of the most important athletes in American history and one of the most important Americans of the 21st century. End quote. And uh yeah, if that doesn't send you sprinting for a barf bag, I honestly don't think anything else will.
A guy blessed with arguably the best raw athleticism we have ever seen in any sport, who has maximized a nearly indestructible physique to turn out one of the best and highest runs of longevity we have ever seen, but who has simultaneously managed to leverage a 23-year career and counting into a mere four NBA titles. He simply has to be seen as one of the sport's greatest losers. Factor in his weak and pathetic beta male antics like crawling on his hands and knees to other superstars cities to drastically underachieve there before bouncing around the NBA like some kind of pitiful pied piper coaxing other all-time greats into joining him so he can single-handedly trash their overall legacies.
And really, well, nothing in that article by Time magazine is true or accurate. And yes, [music] let's also sprinkle in his insufferable off-the-court antics, which include overly politicizing the sport, despite being utterly tonedeaf and uneducated on virtually every topic he speaks out on, while also remarkably lacking in the general intelligence needed to be the kind of ambassador Time magazine is fantasizing he has been. Um, I don't want to get into a word or sentence uh feud with Daryl.
Um, but Daryl Mor to today, Junior, but I believe he wasn't educated on on on the situation at hand. And uh so many people uh could have been harmed um not only financially, but physically, emotionally, spiritually. when you say things or do things.
Um, if you're doing it, um, and you know the people that can be affected by it, um, and and the the families and the individuals and everyone that can be affected by it. One of the most important Americans of the 21st century. Oh, and all of that, by the way, while systematically dodging any and all steroid allegations which have been swirling around him for at least a decade now, LeBron James destroyed the NBA.
As soon as he took the reigns from Kobe Bryant around 2012, the league has been declining majorly in viewership and general popularity until this season, the first season in about 15 years where numbers [music] are actually good again for the league. And not surprisingly, it comes as 41-year-old LeBron James [music] has one foot finally and mercifully out of the NBA. But look, as bad as it is to see LeBron James as the athlete of the [music] century, it is equally as hilarious to see them leave Tom Brady off of the list entirely.
Brady entered the NFL in 2000 and played until 2022. He did all of his work in his sport in this century and nearly spanned all of the century to this point. 23 years overall, which is exactly as many years as LeBron has played in his sport to this point.
And Brady dwarfs LeBron in every metric on his field of play versus LeBron on his court. Brady, who had even better longevity than James since LeBron doesn't turn 42 until December, still a half year away. But that was while James experienced massive career dips this year at the age of 41.
And that is regardless of how good you think he was compared to other geriatrics who have played in the NBA. He had his lowest point total since his rookie season and the third lowest rebound total for his career while missing out on all NBA distinctions. Tom Brady, by comparison, led the NFL in both yards and touchdowns in his age 44 season while finishing runnerup for league MVP.
It was the second most yards he had ever compiled and the second most touchdowns of his entire career at 44. One year after, by the way, he won his last Super Bowl [music] at 43. Brady is his sports alltime career leader in yards, touchdowns, and wins.
But despite having all of the counting stats and the greatest longevity ever, he wasn't a miserable failure and loser when it mattered most like LeBron James. As Tom Brady's 35 playoff wins is not only double the second most by any quarterback ever, it is just five off of the San Francisco 49ers all-time record for playoff wins for a franchise. and it is more than every franchise except the 49ers, Patriots, Packers, Cowboys, and Steelers.
While Brady went to 10 Super Bowls, which is more than every other franchise ever, except for his New England Patriots. But he didn't just get there a bunch of times like LeBron to choke like a dog. No, Tommy won seven of his 10 Super Bowl appearances, which by the way is more than any franchise has accured in a 56-year run of modern NFL history.
That resume would be like giving LeBron with all of his individual accomplishments, Bill Russell's playoff resume, and it is all wrapped into one player. Tom Brady did that in only 22 years as a starting quarterback, the premier position of America's top sport [music] by far. Oh, and it isn't like he has just receded from the spotlight of the sports world since his retirement.
He is making $ 37. 5 million a year as the lead broadcaster for Fox Sports. And that is while having ownership stake in the Vegas Raiders.
Yet, he didn't even make the cut on this putrid list by Time magazine, though several in or involved with the NFL did, including Saquon Barkley, Jackson Smith and Jigba, Miles Garrett, [music] Carly Ersce Gordon, Fernando Mendoza, oh, and Diana Flores. Who is Diana Flores, you might be wondering? Well, just some woman flagged football player.
Seriously, get the out of here, Time magazine. And anyone taking that pile of festering feces of a magazine seriously can also get the hell out of here along with them.
