Persuasive Writing Episode 5: Writing an Introduction To persuade means to convince. When we persuade someone, we want to convince them of something. I want to convince my teacher that we should have more recess.
I've planned some reasons I want to use to support my opinion. But good writers don't just start writing their reasons right away. They start with an introduction.
An introduction can help hook the reader and get them interested in what you are about to say. You might start your writing with a question. Here are some sentence starters you can use to help you start your introduction with a question.
I think I'll start by saying, Did you know that kids who have more recess do better in school? I'm hooking the reader by asking them a question and starting with a cool fact. Think about what question will get your audience hooked into your writing.
After your hook, tell the reader exactly what you want and make sure you say it nicely. I will write, Can we please have five extra minutes of recess each day? Now I'm ready to explain all of my great reasons.
