We arrived at Friday 's lesson . Did you listen to yesterday's lesson? If you haven't listened, I would like to invite you to first listen to yesterday's lesson and then listen to it now, so that you can understand the full and complete context.
Yesterday, I talked a little about those people who were impressed with Jesus healing, giving food to everyone. And then Jesus became a pop star. Where He was, the crowd was on the side and so on.
Hey, let's see now what Jesus' miracle will be. Raise up the paralytic, see blind, you who have leprosy are healed. And people liked it and it became an attraction.
Jesus, wherever he went there was a large crowd. But as I talked about yesterday, Jesus didn't want that kind of person by his side. He wanted those people who were contrite and understood what His role was, His ministry, who He was.
Jesus was not a miracle worker. Jesus was the Son of God, God himself on earth, performing miracles to prove that He had power over death and illness. But the fact is that He did not want to be considered as if He were a magician.
So, what was the problem? The problem was that the large crowd was on Jesus' side. Jesus began to be persecuted.
After a while He gave an extremely harsh speech. And the result? In John chapter 6 verse 66, I found it interesting.
It's half, half, half, and what's João's half, half, half? John chapter 6:66. It says: At the sight of this, many of his disciples abandoned Him and no longer walked with Him.
They were people who were on Jesus' side simply for comfort. They were people who were on Jesus' side simply out of custom. They were people who were on Jesus' side simply because the father was too.
Do you understand where I'm going? There are many young people who are on Jesus’ side. Not because they want to and not because they understand that Jesus is their Savior.
They are on Jesus' side because of their friends, they are on Jesus' side because of their family. They are on Jesus' side, because they think it's cool to be in church. All of these are good reasons, but when things really get more difficult, what will determine whether I will stand by Jesus or not is my relationship of understanding, love and faith.
Simply that. The great crowd had a pale faith, an extremely superficial faith. I had a desire to be on Jesus' side just because He was now a miracle worker.
But Jesus, He wants to be much more than that. So I hope you are not included in João's half, half, half list of those who are part of the crowd. But when it came time, they left and left Jesus behind.
May you understand who Jesus really was. He performed miracles to prove to you and me that He has power over life, over death, over illness, that He will, one day, transform this entire world, there will no longer be illness or death. Ok, this will happen, but we also can't forget.
And that is the main thing that He is our Savior, the One who loves us deeply. My relationship with Him does not have to be a relationship of interest, but a relationship of love.
