hey Sailors welcome back to cruising as crew so today we are going to be talking about some things you should avoid doing in your crew cabin now some of them are going to be more obvious than others but you might be surprised there's probably going to be a few in here that you had not even thought of so the first one is going to be avoiding hanging your things from the sprinkler system and yes I know you're probably thinking uh what did you just say when you get on your cruise ship you will notice that
there is a sprinkler system all over the cruise ship including inside your cabin just in case there's a fire so as you may have guessed if this sprinkler system detects heat then it will start releasing micronized droplets of water and try and put out the fire but what a lot of people like to do is use this as a hanger so they will I don't know get an item of clothing on a coat hanger and decide to hang it through the metal bars not a good idea as you can probably imagine but people do this
quite a lot when you put a hanger through this you will smash the very sensitive glass inside this sprinkler system and then what happens is the sprinkler gets triggered and decides to release micronized droplets of water all over your cabin flooding not only your cabin but all the cabins in the area because when you trigger one of these sprinkler systems it triggers every sprinkler system in the surrounding area so if you want your neighbors and your roommate Ates to be friends with you I would avoid flooding their cabin and therefore do not hang things from
this sprinkler the second thing you want to avoid doing if you want your roommate to like you is letting your dirty laundry pile up now obviously I'm not expecting you to do a Lo a load of laundry every single day but I also don't want you to be letting your dirty laundry pile up for weeks on end now if you have your own cabin be disgusting it's fine let it build up no one cares if you have a roommate the reason it's not so great to do this is because you're not going to be able
to smell your dirty laundry quite like they will because it's your laundry so it smells like you so therefore you're probably not going to smell it that much whereas your roommate is going to be suffering in silence especially if they're from the other side of the globe to you because something I've mentioned in previous videos is when I've had conversations with people from like other sides of the world it's become apparent to me that we all smell a lot more pungent than we think we do so for example my really good friend who's from India
we were having this conversation so I was saying that like in the crew bar when I'm partying with people from India and that side of the world they smell pungent and he was saying well it's the same you smell like milk and I was like what and he's like yeah because you consume so much dairy in the western world like you smell like milk I was like H how interesting so basically what you can take from this is if you are sharing a cabin especially with someone from the other side of the world your dirty
laundry absolutely stinks therefore do not let it build up for any more than a week absolutely maximum and if you are letting it build up for God's sake make sure it's like tucked away somewhere if you have a material laundry bag which is something I recommend taking make sure it's like twisted and folded up or if you have a laundry basket that has a lid on it make sure the lids on it and maybe get an air freshener always good to have an air freshener it smells worse than you think it does so over the
years I have given you many tips on how to create a harmonious living situation with your roommate and a big thing that I've advised you to do is make sure you have a chat with your roommate about your pet peeves and boundaries and you know all of that stuff just so you set a good standard of open communication so if you do something that pisses them off they feel like they can talk to you about it and vice versa right but I was talking to someone the other day and they were telling me how their
roommate is constantly on at them oh I don't like it when you do this I don't like it when you do this or can you do this it's just as detrimental to your relationship to overshare as it is to say nothing so basically you need to pick your battles so what I would advise is if your roommate is doing something consistently to piss you off let's say it's letting the dirty laundry build up for weeks on end and you are suffering in silence because it stinks okay then you need to bring it up you're going
to get resentful you're going to end up exploding at them having a fight so yeah it's something that you absolutely need to bring up however if your roommate usually washes their clothes every like four days and it's not usually a problem but this week they've just had a really hectic week and they haven't had chance to go to the laundry room and it you know they're letting their laundry stack up and it stinks but it doesn't happen on a regular basis then maybe it's worth just brushing this one under the carpet so if it was
me that's kind kind of where I would draw the line like if it's something that's happening a lot yeah you need to speak about it but don't be bringing up everything because it's annoying they're annoyed you're going to get annoyed like it's just it's a bit ridiculous so pick your battles you don't want to become a nag it's not fun for you and it's definitely not fun for your roommate the next thing is about eating in your cabin so it is perfectly normal for you to take snacks back to your cabin most most likely you're
going to have a fridge in your cabin so you'll be able to keep things in the fridge but this fridge is for water fizzy drinks chocolate like basically snacks or food that doesn't smell so I'll give you an example so two of my really good friends live together in a cabin let's call them Gladis and Michelle Michelle was really good friends with a chef who worked in the Indian specialty restaurant on and this Chef would gift Michelle basically free Indian food every single evening now Gladis didn't mind the gifting of the free food but what
Gladis did mind is the fact that Michelle would bring this Indian food back to the cabin and eat it in the cabin every night and obviously this food as delicious as I'm sure it tasted it smelt and therefore it smelt the cabin out so glad this was like our cabin smells like an Indian takeaway so while it's absolutely fine to eat snack fizzy drinks and like non-smelly food in your cabin and you know what once once or twice absolutely take the burrito back to the cabin take the Indie and takeway back to the cabin but
if you find yourself in this situation where you're being gifted really lovely food from one of your Chef friends I mean congratulations for one but like don't be taking it back to your cabin every night because it will smell the cabin out and your roommate is not going to be ultra impressed especially if they're not getting any of this delicious food you know also remember how I said that the fridge was for chocolate fizzy drinks water yeah it's also not for dairy don't be keeping cheese or milk in your cabin one because you're not allowed
if you have a cabin inspection and they find Dairy in your fridge you are going to get a warning but also it stinks sometimes obviously not all cheese stinks not all milk stinks not everything stinks but just be sensitive to your roommates knows as I am sure you know space is pretty Limited in a cabin so if you leave like your hair dryer out your hair brush your hairspray basically all your hair stuff for example your cabin can look cluttered like even if you leave the smallest thing out it makes the cabin look messy just
because it's such a small space so if you are quite a messy person this is what where all that's probably going to change you know how like people go into the military and they go in as a boy who's really messy and then they come back and they make their bed and they fold their clothes and La it's kind of like that obviously cruise ships is very different to the military but in terms of having to keep your cabin clean because you have cabin inspection also because you have to respect your roommates space as well
and they probably don't want all your lying around you need to just pick up your act and pick up your clothes when I I was living with my friend she had this hook that she would hang on the back of the Wardrobe door and instead of like hanging her clothes up she would just hang them on the hook and the hook like PUD like was on the back of the Wardrobe door so it's stuck out into the room and obviously like one item of clothing on the hook like all good but things would just keep
going on the hook until it was this like Giant bulge of clothes that were just protruding into the middle of the cabin and it is obviously just such a small thing and it really doesn't matter but it used to drive me absolutely bomy so I was like just hang it up just hang it up in the wardrobe where we don't need to see it anyway doesn't matter but it is the small things that can piss you off as a roommate like a lot of people worry about the roommate experience they're like oh my God what
if I share with someone who's an what if I share with someone who's mean what if I share with someone who's like really messy that barely ever happens most people are nice most people don't set out to piss you off or like upset you or whatever but it is the small things that are going to get to you like them not putting their clothes away or letting their laundry build up or eating food eating like smelly food in the cabin and it's hard because at the time you're like do I even bring this up especially
if you get on with them as well because you're like well I don't want to ruin the dynamic for such a small thing and that's why I say if it's something that bugs you on a consistent basis then you need to just bring it up whereas if it's once in a while then let it go the next one is don't smoke or vape in your cabin so remember we spoke about those really sensitive sprinkler systems at the beginning of the video Yeah The Vape and the smoke from obviously a cigarette can trigger that don't want
to flood the whole Corridor also it is also you will get in a lot of trouble if you are found to be smoking in your cabin now people maybe go in the bathroom and like try and get away with it and obviously some people do get away with it but I have known people also be caught because when a sensor is activated it sends a signal to the bridge and they can see exactly which cabin like has been triggered so yeah you don't want that knock on your door where they're like uh are you smoking
because I can't see a fire and obviously the reason you can't smoke in your cabin is because it's a fire hazard do not be the person that's sets 5,000 alarms okay you don't you do not want to be that person we all know that person that has to get up at 8 so they set an alarm at 700 and another one at 7:15 and 7:30 and 745 and then eventually the 8:00 alarm goes off and the person gets out of bed but your roommate has been up since seven it will drive anyone to distraction if
you are someone one that needs multiple alarms you need to start training yourself to need one alarm or maybe if you need multiple alarms and you need to get up at 8:00 set the first one for 750 751 752 753 734 just set one every minute so at least it's only like 10 minutes not a whole hour I have I you know what I've been that person and I've had that person and it was only when I had that person that I realized how annoying I had been when I was setting multiple alarms and not
getting up so please just get in the habit of setting one or two alarms and getting up and then the last thing that I want to mention in this video is avoid excessive noise so the walls between cabins are not very thick therefore if you are having cabin parties if you are playing music talking too loudly your neighbors are probably going to be able to hear you I mean it's not like ridiculously the walls aren't ridiculously thin but like if you're being loud your neighbors are going to hear so just be like conscious of that
a perfect example is I went back to my cabin with my roommate one of the days the girls that we lived next door to we also worked with we all went back to our respective cabins and we could hear The Girls Next Door talk talking about us they were talking quite loudly but nevertheless it was like oh okay that's nice just be wary that cabins aren't Ultra soundproof so if you are going to have a little if you are going to have a cabin party like you want to pick your times wisely so that brings
