It's just before midnight on May 12th and a trooper is enjoying a quiet moment on patrol with a smoke. But the peace is shattered when a Dodge Charger screams past, driving with total disregard for the law.
That cigarette had to go. The trooper ditched the cherry and went into full pursuit mode. You can bet that having to toss a good cigar only made him more determined to bring this driver to justice.
Stopping or what? What are you doing? Good pick.

The suspect finally pulls over and troopers are out of their vehicles before he even comes to a full stop getting hands on him immediately and bringing this chase to an end. And it seemed like the trooper still didn't get over that cigar he had to throw. >> All right.
Why you running? >> This is his birthday and I just >> It's your birthday, man. >> No, it's my brother birthday.

Fain began weaving recklessly through traffic, cutting off tractor trailers and creating a nightmare for holiday travelers. As the pursuit neared more populated areas, Trooper Barker knew he had to end it before someone got hurt. That's continuing to jump.
He's bringing his head. Bringing his head. Continue towards Chappale.
Continue towards Chville. Stand by. Stand by.
We're taking top of hill. Taking top of hill. When the smoke cleared, Fain surrendered.
But the surprises weren't over. Officers pulled a Glock 26 from his waistband and found a 50 round magazine and suspected marijuana in the car. His reason for the 130 mph madness was, as he said, he panicked because his license was suspended.
Fain's 4th of July ended exactly where he didn't want to be, the Douglas County Jail. It's 2:46 a. m.
on Georgia 400, and the silence of the night is about to be shattered. When the troopers move in to shut it down, the Charger vanishes, but the GTR driver decides to see just how fast those Japanese horses can run.

It was a white knuckle flight through the heart of Atlanta. The GTR hit a staggering 175 mph, weaving through traffic and even using the shoulder to blast past slower cars. Trooper wanted to execute the pit, but however, he had to abort the hit at the last second.
All the way over to the right. Might be trying to take 20. Back over to the left.
Coming up to 20. Right line. Right line.

75 South. >> He swerved off. The suspect tries to fake an exit, hoping to shake the trooper off his tail, but it doesn't work.
The trooper stays locked in sharp and focused, not falling for a single trick. Despite the speed, he keeps himself right on that bumper, waiting for backup to arrive. And that's the most important thing right now, keeping this guy in his sight.
Yep. Uh, tell them I don't know. Yeah, we're on access road and parallel on 75.
>> Getting further and further aboard. >> All right. Right shoulder.
Right shoulder. He almost losing it in the curves. Still right shoulder coming up.

Uh, he's coming up to the Union City exit. Definitely going to lose him as fast as he's going. The chase ended when the trooper patrol car suffered a flat tire, but the GTR didn't get far.
It eventually struck a median in Union City, leaving the driver to ditch the car and head for a nearby gas station. The driver, Patrick Lee, was found walking away from the gas station with two others. He didn't just smell like burnt rubber, he smelled like a long night at Moond Dog's Cafe.
Officers noted his thick speech and bloodshot eyes, classic manifestations of alcohol impairment often seen in these reckless cases. To add a strange twist to the felony fleeing and DUI charges, investigators found two different VIN numbers on the car. It's 2:10 a.

He traded a midnight drive for a long list of charges, proving once again that in Arkansas, no matter how fast you go, the law always has a way of catching up. It's just another day on Interstate 430 when trooper first class Freeman clocks a black BMW flying at 91 in a 65.
At first, it looks like a standard traffic stop. The driver pulls onto the cantrail exit and stops at a red light. But as the trooper steps out of his car to make contact, the driver, Frederick Brazwell, decides he isn't sticking around and floors it into the city.
See the signal slow speed straight through. >> We're going to be on Valley Club here though. Speed 40.
>> The chase hits 100 mph through narrow city streets with Brazwell aggressively breaking the trooper to keep him off his tail. Realizing they were headed straight for a high traffic area, trooper Freeman waited for the perfect moment on Windy Lane to execute the pit. Lose your hands.
Lose your hands. Let me see your hands. The suspect grabbed a black backpack and bolted on foot, jumping privacy fences before literally invading a nearby home to hide in the hallway.
The homeowner pointed the trooper right to the suspect, and a search of that backpack revealed exactly why he was running. Traffic starts to work against him, slowing him down and an officer pulls right up behind him, weapon drawn, and the suspect just sits there. doesn't flinch, doesn't surrender, just flat out refuses like that gun pointed at him. Means absolutely nothing.

Imagine you're cruising down Interstate 440 when the night is suddenly pierced by two blurs of metal and tire smoke. Sorry. I'm driving back. Barton is all over the road at speeds exceeding 160 mph.
And at that point, the danger isn't just peaking. It's at a level where something catastrophic is one wrong move away. Trooper Lucas knows it, too.
The first opportunity he gets to end this, he is taking it no matter what it cost. The chase ended with a dramatic surrender as Barton hopped out and laid flat in the middle of the highway. But the real story was inside the car.
His passenger was terrified, later telling police she had begged him to stop. After a quick medical check at Baptist Hospital, Barton traded his60 mph adrenaline rush for a long stay at the Palaski County Detention Center.
