This is video two in my Pinterest marketing for beginners series. In the last video, we covered what Pinterest is and who should use it and why you should use it. Today, we're setting up your Pinterest business account from scratch.
Now, I know not everybody will have an account that is blank, but some people might have personal accounts that they haven't used for a while that they want to convert to a business account. So, we're going to cover all of that. So, regardless of where you're at, whether it's brand new or maybe an old kind of decrepit Pinterest account, we're going to help you get set up the right way.
If you haven't watched video one, I would highly recommend you go back and you watch it. You can grab it right here. One of the biggest reasons you need to watch it is that anyone who dives into Pinterest marketing really needs to understand why.
I have heard countless stories of people starting and they get 3 to four weeks in and they go, "Why am I doing this? I don't even understand how Pinterest works. I don't get it.
It doesn't make sense to me. That video will help bring you up to speed so you don't have this gap in there that is the struggling point for so many other business owners. So, go back and watch it if you haven't.
All right, let's dive in. Creating a business account. Number one, if you're going to do any type of business on Pinterest, you must have a business account.
Plus, you get so many extra features with a business account that you don't get with a personal account. The reason I call this out is because for years, Instagram has had creator accounts or professional accounts or personal accounts. And people often take their understanding of Instagram and they overlay it onto Pinterest.
They have a personal account and they think, "Well, maybe if I keep it personal, I'm going to get more reach. " But that's just not the case with Pinterest. You for sure need a business account, especially if you're going to be selling your products or selling any type of product ads, whatever it is on your website.
It is against their terms of service to do business and not have a business account. Plus, you really want a business account. Trust me.
If you're starting fresh, simply go to business. pinterest. com.
You can click on this right here, or I'll put it down below in the description. You simply create an account, set it up, and you're good to go. Now, it's going to give you some prompts to complete, and I'm going to walk you through why you want to complete those prompts and what is important for you to put in those prompts.
Let's say you're not new to Pinterest, but maybe you already have a personal account. Go to business. pinterest.
com and then convert to a business account. It's super easy. It's super simple.
Just know you're going to have to do a little bit of cleaning up, moving some boards to secret, which you can still use even if they are in secret. But this way, you don't have to start over. You're already with the account that you have.
Now, if you're in a position where you're not new to Pinterest, you have a personal account, but maybe you don't want to take that personal account and convert it into a business account, then you need to go with option one is creating a fresh new business account. Then you can toggle back and forth between your business and your personal account on Pinterest. It's pretty easy.
Okay, number one is profile optimization. Let's show you what that looks like. Let's go to your profile and I'll walk through what you need to make sure your profile is optimized.
Number one, your profile name. This should be your business name plus what you do. Think Kate all Pinterest marketing or Sarah Smith home organization tips.
Pinterest reads this as search term, so make it clear and keywordri. Your bio. You've got 160 characters, so use them wisely.
Tell people what you do, who you help. Include two to three keywords naturally. Mine says something like Pinterest marketing strategies for business owners.
Grow your traffic and sales with proven Pinterest tactics. Don't overthink it. Just be clear about who you are and what you do.
Last is website claiming. This is huge. Go to settings, click claim, and follow the steps to claim your website.
This verifies your own domain and lets you see analytics from all pins from your site, even the ones other people pin. It also adds your profile photo to every pin from your website, which builds brand recognition. If we're on the same page here, go ahead and hit the like button below.
All right, creating your first boards. Now, this is something that in the past when I've done a video, people have said, "I really need to see this in action. " So, we're going to walk through this right now.
All right. When you're creating boards, you want to think about three to five boards that accurately represent your business, the content that you create, or the products that you sell. You need to name them in a way that the algorithm knows exactly what you're talking about.
You want to use this exact strategy. If you're a wedding planner, don't just create a board that is wedding planning tips. You want to create a board that is rustic wedding decor or maybe you specialize in elegant wedding planning.
You want to be very specific, not just weddings. I love if you are a nutritionist, you want to skip the recipe board. That's like recipes I love.
You want to be really specific. Proteinrich breakfast ideas, quick and easy lunches, quick and healthy lunches, something that you know the person on Pinterest is going to be typing into the search bar in order to find your board. See the difference?
One is about you and what you like. The other board is about them and what they like. That is really, really important to find the keywords that you're going to use in building your boards.
You want to use the search bar on Pinterest. I'll do a quick screen capture here so you can see. You simply go to your app, see the little search bar at the top, put in some keywords, and there you go.
You'll get search prediction down below. I highly recommend that you search keywords that you know are related to your brand. For example, here I searched Pinterest marketing.
So I could see what other keywords are related to Pinterest marketing. Then I can take those words and I can end up using them on a board that I actually own so that people can come and find more Pinterest marketing tips. Each board that you have needs to have a description.
Don't overthink this either. It's two to three natural sounding sentences. I'll put a screenshot here so you can see that.
It's just simply a phrase or two about what the board will hold. Think of it as an extra layer of a category as to what your board will be about. Again, two to three natural sounding sentences.
Don't keyword stuff and put commas between or those little pipes in between. Make it natural sounding. And here's something people always ask me.
How many boards should I have? Now, there's really no one right way to answer that question. You need to have as many boards or as few boards that communicate the type of content or services that you sell or the products that you sell.
You don't always need a 100 boards to communicate that. How would you fill that up if you don't have enough content or maybe you only have 5 to 10 products that you rotate through or you sell. Maybe 5 to 10 boards is all you need.
So, start small. You can add more later. Remember, you can move some to secret or you can move them to public.
There's a lot of flexibility when it comes to boards. Just think about this. Maybe you're going to create a series kind of like I've done here with Pinterest marketing for businesses or Pinterest marketing for beginners.
Well, I'm maybe I don't have that on my Pinterest profile, but I know I can put all these videos and all of my blog posts into that particular board. Then I would go ahead and create a new board for that. But if I'm only going to be doing one post, maybe Pinterest marketing for real estate agents, but I'm not going to be doing much more, I probably won't create a new board for that.
I'll put what I have into my Pinterest marketing for beginners board. Got it. Does that make sense?
If you're tracking with me, go ahead and hit the like button below. This tells me if we're on the same page. Okay, really quick.
If you want a step-by-step guide of setting up your profile or building your Pinterest profile, we already have it for you. We've built it. We have it for sale in our shop.
I'm going to link down below. It is really inexpensive. If you are in this position where you need to set up your profile and you want to do it the right way or you need to clean it up, this can help assist you with that.
It's actually our exact process that we do when we do this for our clients. We've put it into a document just for you and it's for sale in our shop. Click down below in the description.
So, let's recap. Here's what you just learned in this video. One, set up your business account.
Two, make sure you fill out all of the bio information and the profile. Three, you want to claim your website. Four, you want to start by creating your very first boards.
With that, you're set up. I know it sounds so easy and I just did this in like five to seven minutes in this video, but I promise you, you set aside a little bit of time. Maybe you're streaming your favorite show.
You can do this and get set up on Pinterest and ready to go and be prepared for our next video in no time. Speaking of next video, we're going to show you how to create pins that actually get clicks and saves, which are the most important metrics on Pinterest. So, make sure you're subscribed so you can get access to that.
And if this time where you need to go back and watch the first video, go ahead and watch it here. All righty. Thanks so much for watching.
