[Music] [Music] before the release of Mirage I made a video talking about the first of Assassin's Creed origins dlc's The Hidden ones I really enjoyed that DLC it is rather short but it still feels very impactful and provides a pretty satisfying conclusion to Origins but less than 2 months later after the release of the Hidden ones expansion we got the curse of the Pharaohs which is easily the larger of the two DLCs and more of a proper full-on expansion like the hidden ones DLC it takes place 4 years after the ending of the base game
and follows bike on his journey to thieves and the valley of Kings after receiving a letter from amunet asking him to discover and lift the supposed curse over the land unlike the hidden ones DLC curse of the Pharaohs is less about the Brotherhood and more about B's personal Journey with a heavy emphasis on Egyptian mythology things get pretty crazy and wacky at times it certainly isn't quite as grounded as the base game or the hidden ones DLC but as a side adventure for BK it's still a lot of fun and has more content than most
Assassin's Creed dlc's offer and for $20 at full price and only eight bucks right now with the steam spring sale it's really good value especially for those who love Origins like me and just want more of the game but easily what I think sets this DLC apart and my favorite thing about it are the all new worlds you get to discover in each of the different Egyptian after lives the datat hebet aten aru these are some of the most visually distinct and stunning environments I've seen in all of Assassin's Creed and they are really fun
to explore first of all I love how you can seamlessly enter each one through tombs and the loading time is really impressive it reminds me of the new God of War games where you go through like one or two seconds of a white screen and boom you're suddenly in this new world I also love how distinct and unique these environments look from each other I was in photo mode a lot and I think these worlds are a much needed change of pace and refresher from the deserts of origin base game as the city thieves and
its surrounding areas really don't look too different from the environments of the base game the afterlives have their own special enemy types that will attack you on site since B is not supposed to be there considering he's not dead and those enemies range from risen pharaohs to massive scorpions these creepy looking vulture things and the afterlife guards they don't necessarily fight very differently from the normal enemy types of the game although some of them do like some can heal their fellow comrades and stuff like that but they have some really cool designs both visually and
audibly gone better to keep my eyes open though getting to experience and explore these afterlives were definitely the highlight of the expansion for me of course there's plenty of side quests as well similar to the base game some were of a very high quality While others are your basic fetch Quest and the DLC similar to the base games has some phenomenal environmental storytelling for example I stumbled upon this town with a bunch of dead white crocodiles where it seems like the people there were either eating them or using their skin to forge different clothing and
gear as for gameplay there's not a ton that's different from the base game there's no new tools or mechanics or anything like that I do wish they could have added something a little bit new there however there are plenty of new outfits weapons and mounts along with a lot of boss fights I'm pretty confident in saying the boss fights in curse of the Pharaohs are the hardest boss fights in the entire series there was such a massive difficulty Spike from the base game and the hidden ones DLC to this I was playing on hard difficulty
and whether it was those Pharaoh Shadows or main story bosses I was being put through the ringer [Music] [Music] this's so cold muscle stiff numb this is it I fought the good fight did my best no one can ask any more of me what am I doing I can't give [Music] up and yet funnily enough the easiest boss fight for me in the entire expansion was the final boss that I beat on the first try without getting hit once and in like under a [Music] minute I'm not even showing that to flex or anything but
the balancing on these boss fights felt a bit off to me at times why were the others so hard and yet the final boss is so easy don't get me wrong I love a good challenge this almost felt like a very shallow version of a Souls game game but some of these bosses felt ridiculous and I felt like the strategy for a lot of them is just to keep your distance hit them with arrows and fill your overpower meter because you can just run away infinitely from them and they can't hit you which isn't really
a fun way to play so I try not to do that as much but these bosses are so difficult that at times it felt like the only way to beat them that or I had to use a cursed weapon to actually deal significant damage I really like the challenge and appreciate the focus on these big bosses in the expansion but I do think they could have done with more tuning and balancing so many of these pharaohs have the most OP one shot combos that are so difficult to see coming and avoid some people might just
be like oh that's a skill issue but I really don't mind the challenge I just thought some of these bosses were insanely frustrating and yet the final boss is the easiest one which is just weird anyways while not much is different about the game play itself there's plenty of new environments quests weapons and and enemy types to make the experience feel fresh and not just a copy and paste of the base game with a new story now as I get into talking about the story here I am going to go over spoilers so just in
case you haven't played this and are planning to in the future I have the video in chapters if you want to just skip past this part but the curse of the pharaoh's DLC like I mentioned earlier is 4 years after the main game and I believe shortly after the hidden ones DLC I don't know the timeline isn't exactly clear but I'm pretty sure this comes after and again rather than leaning into the Brotherhood itself and how bak and amunet continue to develop it this is more of a side adventure for Beek the story doesn't feel
nearly as important or crucial to the overall plot as the hidden one story did there's an allnew cast of characters amunet and the others we knew from the base game don't appear and this leans heavily into Egyptian mythology and some weirdness as well which usually I prefer Assassin's Creed to be a little more grounded but with a DLC like this as a fun little spin-off adventure for Beek I still enjoyed it quite a lot and I tried not to think too much into the absurdity of some of the events that were occurring because as the
title States it's pure insanity and while the story doesn't really feel all that important in the grand scheme of things there are still some important components to it it continues to develop and give us more insight into bak and how he feels the weight of his sins and the things he's had to do which has caused him to believe he may not be allowed into the field of raids with his son when the story focused on that it was really gripping to me I say every time I talk about Origins but Abu bakar Salim brings
such humility and Humanity to bayek he does so many little things in his performance that I guarantee are not written in the script that bring B to life and give him some more personality whether it's like a little laugh or chuckle interacting with something in the scene delivering the line a certain tone it makes it all feel so natural and I feel like I noticed him doing stuff like that even more so in this DLC which would make sense considering at this point he's come to understand Bak so well and likely grew a lot more
confident in the character to where he could start doing these sort of things more often wait B let me see before you get yourself killed far's name faroh's shadow an ancient ritual it's all here fascinating Bak would not be Bak without Abu bakar Salim I can't imagine any other voice for him the apple of Eden also has quite the presence in this story even though you don't really see it until the end I do like its incorporation here in the story and B's constant worry of what could happen if it were to fall in the
wrong hands because he knows all too well the kind of power it holds and I like how they kind of tied up the apple with all this mythology and prophecies it was cool I will say I did feel a little lost in the narrative sometimes because I don't have a great understanding of Egyptian mythology but as a little fun adventure with Bak it was more than enough the structure of the story and antagonist did feel very similar to The Hidden ones DLC and even the base game where the main antagonist ends up being one of
your main allies who you had been helping all along only to be betrayed in the end I do feel like they kind of overdid it with having their be a betrayal each time at the end of these stories in this DLC it was isidora who had been helping and guiding you the whole time only to find out she wanted revenge for what happened to her mother and wanted to use the Apple herself it's not really a shocking or unpredictable twist because this game has pulled that trick three times in a row now first with flavus
in the main game and then with gilot in the hidden ones DLC I still enjoyed this story but the characters felt pretty forgettable in comparison to the likes of the base game and the hidden ones DLC it was by no means bad though and I still had a great time I wish the final boss wasn't so easy because it made the ending feel kind of anticlimactic to me but I already discussed all that all in all this is still a very good DLC narratively I definitely prefer the hidden ones but when it comes to sheer
content and new things to do curse of the Pharaohs offers a lot more so if you for some reason haven't played this yet and you really like Assassin's Creed Origins it's a no-brainer you should check check it out any excuse to go on more adventures with Bak is a no-brainer let me know what you guys think about the curse of the Pharaoh DLC though and which one of the two expansions from Origins you prefer now that I'm done with all the origins DLCs it'll be time for me to replay all of odsy and make a
video on that it'll probably take quite a long time to replay though so be patient with me on that one but as always if you enjoyed the video I'd appreciate it if you left a like and considered subscribing to the channel if you're new a special thank you to my members for supporting me as always and other than that thanks for watching everybody and have a fantastic rest of your day assassins
